Our Deck Makeover

Deck Before

Hello friends! I am honored to be here and SO excited to share our Plow & Hearth deck makeover with you!

I didn’t always love this space. In fact until a few years ago I couldn’t stand being out here at all. But thanks to Plow & Hearth I am still swooning over my happy place!

For years our deck was completely unused. It was a dark brown streaked stained wood that looked rough, depressing, and didn’t flow with our house at all. When it came time to restain, I was on a mission to transform this area into a place we could actually spend time and enjoy. Instead of the usual dark shades of brown that never looked quite right, we chose a light gray stain and that was a game changer! It took several coats to cover the dark but it transformed our deck into a light and breezy area which was absolutely worth it! We used our old table and chairs, bought an umbrella, some pillows, repainted a few décor items, and it was done.

Unfortunately, at the end of last season we left everything outside and the harsh winter weather turned it all into a molded mess way beyond repair. Spring was around the corner but I was irritated every time I looked out back and lacked the drive to clean and create again.

Lack of motivation flew out the window and inspiration quickly struck as I browsed through Plow & Hearth’s outdoor catalogue and imagined transforming our deck into a beautiful relaxing space. Choosing among so many pieces of furniture and décor was no easy task, let me tell you! But once I did and they arrived, I felt like a child on Christmas morning and could not have been happier with each and every piece.

To offset the square deck, I selected the Tangier Wicker Folding Round Table and Easy Care Resin Wicker Chairs and am very happy with our decision! Our deck isn’t a huge area so I love how the table can be easily folded and moved to provide more floor space. The quality is amazing and the white feels fresh and clean. I’ve never owned cushions a nice as these navy Sunbrella ones which are in all chairs. They are deep and super comfortable. I went with the outdoor navy Wooden Adirondack Chair and White Side Table because I felt they would blend nicely with the two plastic Adirondack chairs I had purchased last season. The side table adds an element of cozy and is the perfect place for a candle, book, or plant.

Deck After

And speaking of cozy, that has always been one of my design goals, be it indoor or out. So when I saw Plow & Hearth’s exclusive Tangier Wicker Ottoman Pouf, Boot Hydrangea Pillow, colorful Woven Rug, and holy moly, that Weatherproof Outdoor Tall Wicker Lamp! Goal accomplished! These items are icing on the cake and make my heart incredibly happy! I originally planned to use the rug at the back door but I liked the pop of pink in the center so I layered it over our painted navy and white rug. The ottoman has been moved around and used so much already. Whether it’s to hold feet, a child, or a drink, it’s a favorite for everyone. The wicker lamp is everything! It’s a beautiful piece of décor in itself and its warm glow lights up the night. The Solar Lanterns hanging in the trees feel like little fairies and adds to our cozy vibe.

I am in love with our deck now! It’s a happy space that feels light and airy during the day, but I especially love the evenings when everything turns a bit dreamy and magical with the touch of twinkling lights.

Thank you Plow & Hearth for transforming our backyard into a beautiful place for our family to spend many evenings making memories to last a lifetime!
