The train makes an awesome decor item. However, like other reviewers, we did not get any steam out of the smokestack. I had the stove up to 700 degrees. Tell the manufacturer they should put a gasket between the 2 pieces, it would probably improve the flow of steam through the stack. Beautiful to look at though.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband who collects trains. He absolutely loved it. It will be for decoration only and in that respect it is very beautiful. I can't tell you how it works as an actual steamer, but it is a very lovely piece and I would recommend it to anyone for this purpose.

I bought this to use after buying one for my Aunt to use and liked hers enough to buy my own. Like other have said, it is heavy, but it's cast iron, so duh. If you want light weight I'd say get something in steel. The only issue I have with it is my own problem with my stove. I have a stove with the blower vent chamber on top so it doesn't allow the steamer to get so hot that it actually steams. But it will vent enough to make it practical to use, and it the large pot allows it to go for 3 or 4 days depending on stove use. I also set it next to my chimney pipe which tends to help add heat to help it vent. No issues with color coming off or any of the other complaints. It is made in China so we shall see how long it lasts. I wouldn't recommend it if you have very hard water though, I don't think the paint is heavy duty enough to stand up to it.

This item looks nice, but really doesn't work all that well. Very heavy. Hasn't given off much steam. Not that large.

This will be given as a Christmas gift for a man that is a collector of trains. It will be used in the kitchen on top of a wood burning stove, which at the moment he just has a pot of water. I know that he will love it.

When the steamer got hot the black rubbed off showing a dull gray. I didn't understand it was just painted and not seasoned cast iron. Just tried to refill bottom and when I removed train the color came off. For the price I paid...BIG disappointment.

We ordered this for our woodstove because our other steamer was too small and dried out quickly. We don't have that problem with this steamer, but it isn't quite what we expected. Being solid cast iron, the top is extremely heavy, so much so that I don't risk picking it up single handed just in case. Also, unless you have a VERY (too) hot fire, the steam rarely is visible from the chimney. However other than those, it is an attractive product and looks quite nice our our stove.

I purchased as a git for husband's birthday. I was excited to see it looked as good as the picture. Filled the water tank and then noticed the train top did not fit well. The second day we checked water supply using a pot holder to remove train top. The black paint on the train rubbed off on the pot holder leaving the gray metal under it exposed. I expected better quality for the money.

Gas fireplaces burn too cool to produce steam. However the train is very well built and very attractive.

This was a gift for my husband on his birthday and he loves it! We use it on the wood stove and can leave it overnight without running out of water. It could use handles on the lid to help lift it for refilling, but with a couple of pot holders, we manage to get the job done. We were pleased that the product matched the photo in detail and in quality. Thanks!

I bought this as a gift for my mother-in-law who keeps her house cozy and warm with a wood stove in Missouri. She loved it! She uses it everyday in the winter to add moisture back into the room. We had never seen anything like it and it was truly a special and unique gift. I would recommend this item highly!

This does not work as advertised--water does not get hot enough. It's very decorative. Will keep on woodstove during the non-heating months

We use this on a wood burning fireplace insert to help maintain the humidity in the house. We have not noticed the steam coming out of the stack as pictured while we have used it, so that is disappointing, but we still consider this to be a good product. Be sure to treat the cast iron with mineral oil to prevent rust.

Be cautious as it tends to attract children because of the "Train theme". Also, it is extremely top heavy and awkward to use when hot.

Overall a very attractive unit, very durable but decorative and looks great with the steam coming out of the top when fully warmed up. Could maybe even take the bottom off and put it under the Christmas tree with some "snow" on it and cotton balls around it to make puffy snow at the base. This unit is HEAVY too....you can use it as a door stop, no kidding!!! The unit does get a bit hot, so should use oven mits when touching it. Be careful as the finish will scratch off if you are rough with it.

The joint is not a solid weld so you get mineral deposit build up that takes away from the nice black finish and requires daily attention
