After Hurricane Sandy, my mom's glass gazing ball was shattered. This lovely steel ball is a perfect replacement since she lives on Long Island Sound and frequently has high winds and leaves flying around. The blue color is so rich and deep, it is similar to the beautiful Sound water. She is thrilled with this Christmas present. Plow & Hearth sent it lightning fast, in plenty of time for the holidays. It was packaged well and arrived safely. I highly recommend this ball for anyone who wishes to have a gorgeous gazing ball, without the worry of falling acorns.

Bought the silver ball to put on a stone pedestal with a fresh green wreath under it. For a little extra pizazz I wired some shiny red balls in the greens and it really is a lovely focal point. After the holidays it will reflect the joy of my garden!

I ordered this when they had it a few years ago. It has weathered every storm and I live on the unprotected prairie and I have it out year-round. It has survived wind, snow, you name it. I didn't realize how much I love this gazing ball until I purchased a cheaper, glass ball at a local shop and it broke in less than one week. If you want a beautiful ball that will last until you throw it away—get this.

Mine is now 3 years old. After two glass globes in a row shattered on impact with windblown broken branches, I decided to pay three times as much for this weather resistant steel in red. I was disappointed that by the beginning of the second summer the color had faded and the colored laquer had begun to peel off. It is now half stripped. I'm replacing it with red glass for 1/3 the price. If I ever figure out a non toxic way to remove the rest of the laquer without fogging up the underlying steel I might have a nice silver ball, but then again I might not. This was a big disappointment. If you intend to use it indoors or if you can find it priced lower than glass, then perhaps go for it, otherwise I do not recommend.

I really like my gazing ball. It was what I expected. It added just the right pop to my rock garden. The color is perfect. I have had it out for only 3 days. I guess time will tell how it holds up in the weather and the sun.

The finish on the ball was uneven and even flawed. I may keep it and try a clear finish overcoat and see if that will stop the deteriation.

The red one I bought faded, in 2 months from red to an orange/yellow. I contacted Plow and Hearth and received an email that they would get back to me. They never did. Maybe the silver one would be good. I'm very disappointed. I have purchased many things from this company and have always been pleased with my purchases.

I gave this as a holiday gift in 2010. During the summer it faded and the color is now a pale red in many spots. No longer attractive. It is outside in my Aunt's yard in the Mountains of East Tennessee.It is hard to imagine the extent of sun damage if it were in the outside elements of Florida.

I got a steel gazing ball in december, described as weather resistant. By June the finish was noticeably faded on the top, the once beautiful color faded to dull whitish haze.

I have had many kinds of Gazing Balls. They always break and don't last even a few months. This new one has fallen over twice from wind and no problems.

Color was "mystic", but now seems to be a solid in any sunlight. However, it will not break if dropped on any surface like glass ones.

When it first arrived it was a beautiful blue but soon turned to silver. I was very disappointed in the color, but has held up great against our storms. Just need to work on getting the color to stay true.

We bought a Red gazing ball for ourselves, and a Blue one for my parents. The blue one now looks like a dull silver and the red one is orange multi-colored. It only took a few months for the transformation. We will buy glass ones to replace these.
