I purchased this fireplace screen primarily for the double doors so it doesn't have to be removed when tending to the fire. I love the simple, yet attractive design, and the price was definitely inexpensive compared to the custom designs I saw on other sites. I have an unusually sized fireplace opening due to a rebuilt design, so it was difficult to find something that would work for us without spending the money for a custom built design. The first screen delivered was damaged due to the flimsy box and the weight of the screen frame ripping through. Also, the magnets did not work and still don't after the first winter's use. The replacement screen still had the magnet problem, and I have to lean a piece of wood against the doors permanently which is annoying. Also, the structure is unbalanced and will tip over, so it has to have small wooden wedges underneath the outer legs. I'm dealing with it because I can't find anything else that has the functions/price and chance of another problem. Despite the negative issues and also hoping the company would address them after reading other reviews with similar problems, I still like the way it looks! I recommend this screen for the price/function/attractiveness!

The only problem I have with the screen is the weak magnets in doors will not keep doors closed.

Bad magnets and discoloration after fire
By CT Lady

About Me Midrange Shopper
We love the way the screen looks, but the magnets stopped working after our first fire. We have to pin the doors closed with the poker or they swing wide open. We ordered the black one, and after our first fire one of the screen doors became discolored, like the black paint burned off or something. We are returning it for a different style screen and hoping we don't have the same problem with the magnets.

More of a reddish/burnt orange color
By Forty Somthing Mom
This fireplace screen arrived within about a week or so. It is nice, but the color is more of a reddish-copper color than it appears online (at least on my computer screen). I still like it, but it is a little different than what I had originally envisioned (before purchasing). It definitely brightens the room and makes the fireplace more noticeable.

We received Exactly what was shown on the website. the assembly was easy enough that we could put it together, even with both of us being disabled. sometimes easy assembly means flimsy product, but Definately not in this case. being still 90 degrees outside we haven't used it yet, but I'm confident it will preform exactly as it should. we have bought several items from this company and every one has met or exceeded our expectations.the delivery was just as they told us it be. Thank you for a wonderful product and company.

Torn up in shipping
from Piedmont CA
Product looks good, but unfortunately, did not get to use it. I've now had two different units shipped to me and both showed up damaged. The packaging is VERY flimsy for something with sharp corners. Both times, the corners are bent/paint chipped, where it has obviously been dropped on the corners. The screens are warped/bent where other things have been laid on top of it. I will be returning both units and finding something locally.
Beautiful, but the copper color is red
This is a beautiful screen. Really opened up my space and gave more room. Very sturdy and well made. I would recommend getting the black, even if you are a copper fan. I got the copper, and it's a very bright red'ish color, and not copper. I have a real copper bucket, and real copper tools, and beside those, it looks a bit silly. I'm exchanging for the black and Plow and Hearth was very accomodating. Thank you!

BEAUTIFUL and functional! Our "curtain" like screen was falling off. We didn't want the traditional brass glass enclosure, I saw this and new THAT was what I wanted! The handles do not get reall hot, it is just a delight to look at our fireplace now. It looks new! Allows heat to come through without problem. It is sturdy. I just wish I had another fireplace so I could get another one!
dressed up my fireplace beautifully
By Nana Deanna

I have a gas fireplace, so I really didn't need it for safety. I bought it for decoration, to cover a unattractive fireplace hole. It looks beautiful and dressed up the fireplace area nicely. The color was a little off then I expected, its more of a burnt red in color but all the same it goes well with our living room decor. Everyone who has seen my fireplace before and after complements on how attractive it is with the screen. I am very pleased with my purchase.
Good looks, bad door closures
from Baltimore, MD
Looks great, but the magnetic doors won't stay closed when exposed to heat. You know, the kind that fires generate. After owning the screen for just a few weeks, I'm looking for inventive ways to keep the doors closed, since the magnetic closures no longer work.

I love the look and the styling of this firescreen, but it is not living up to my expectations of quality. The 'copper' finish easily chips off if you make contact with your fireplace tools. The other disappointment is the magnetic closure on the doors. They were demagnatized in about a week so we actually cannot count on this screen to keep sparks from getting out and that is exactly what we needed if for. I would recommend this screen only for decorative purposes or if you only use your fireplace very little.

I love this fire screen. It looks great, it stops sparks, and it never moves on me. I am very happy with it and for the money it's really great!
Magnet stopped working after one year
from Austin, TX
We live in Texas...a warm part of Texas, so we don't have too many fires. Maybe 3-10 in a year. We bought this screen a year ago and within it's 10th use the magnet that holds the screen doors stopped working. We read that high heat can de-magnetize metal. Well, why in the world would you use one for a fireplace screen then. We're very upset with the purchase. It was attractive and the mesh on the screen is close together, so I felt safe with a fire going even when I was in another room...at least when the doors used to stay shut.
Merchant response: Thank you for your comment. We are working closely with our manufacturer to correct the problem. Plow & Hearth is committed to providing quality products. Please remember our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Very nice; easy assembly
from loma prieta, ca
Very nice screen. The easy to open doors make it easy to add wood to the fire without having to remove a heavy screen (and put it on the carpet). Only downside is that it cannot by mounted to fireplace so it maye have to be placed several inches from opening to accomodate the legs.

The swing out doors took all the work out of tending the fire. A great buy!

Doors won't stay closed...
By Sue with a disgruntled husband...
from Pt. Pleasant, WV
Took me forever to get my husband to agree to buying this beautiful fire screen with doors to replace that nasty old removable screen. He had to do some grinding of our stone fireplace to make it fit - only to find out that after we had the FIRST fire the magnet that holds the doors closed became demagnetized and will no longer keep the doors closed. I can't believe it. No more fires until something is fixed. I have asked P&H for a new magnet - I hope it doesn't take too long to get here and doesn't demagnetize again once the fire starts...

We have a rather small living room with an open fireplace. We wanted a screen that was flush against the fireplace so we would have a little more space. This was perfect. We ordered the small size in copper. The color is a bit bright at mid-day when the sun shines in the room but at night it is beautiful. The screen is a substantial weight. Not at all flimsy. Good value for the price.
built with quality
Good quality fireplace screen. Doors open & close easily. Nice design and finish.
The screen is actually on a fireplace that is not used very often, but it is in the parlor where we wanted a decorative screen with doors. It is perfect for that. As a woman, I was a bit hesitant to try putting it together by myself, but I did and it was easy.

We have a thru fireplace between the living room and dining room. This screen is for the dining room and looks fantastic with our huge oak dining room table. Love the style and color.
Very Nice Looking, Quality Varies
from Oswego, IL
I love the looks of this fireplace screen, I did have issues with the quality however. All in all I had to have 3 shipped and used parts from all three to get an exceptable product. Most would have given up on the 1st try but this was exactly what I was looking for. My quality issues were, paint color (copper finish) varied widely between the three, corner welds, handles not fitting properly, dented screens, door hinges. Regardless I now have a functional, attractive, sturdy fireplace screen that I am very happy with. I also orderd the small Bristol Flatguard in black and had no issues at all with it.
from Gilbert, AZ
This looks great, little more red than copper, but really goes with our room. Fits perfectly, stays put, doors function very well. Extremely pleased! It fits our opening perfectly!
The smaller unit, a very attractive screen, fit our fireplace opening perfectly. It replaced a bi-fold screen that required me to move it every time I tended the fire. The doors on this unit allow easy and quick access to the fire, and close with a tight and strong, magnetic seal. It took five minutes to unpack and attach the legs and door handles. A great buy I would recommend highly.

Easy to put together and very attractive way to keep the kids and cats out of the fireplace. The doors are held in place with a magnet clasp in the middle which is nice. Very sturdy.
