Comments about Plowhearth Single Cake Suet Feeder:
Of course it's not squirrel proof- not much is-but if you put it in the right place you can make it difficult for them! I have watched the squirrels, chipmunks, mice and other rodents co-exist happily with the birds and everyone manages to get a meal. I even see ducks enjoying dropped seed. This feeder is beautifully made of recycled materials, so I feel good using it! It is very sturdy, and attractive, and has the tail-holder that the larger woodpeckers love. I liked it so much I came back and bought a second one. They are on a double plant holder 6'tall in the middle of the yard- away from trees. I have seen a hungry squirrel scale the metal pole, however it is difficult for those without a beak to get at the suet, especially with trying to hang on tight. The top is easy to open to fill and closes securely. It is a nice addition to my birding area, and was reasonable, and shipped very fast.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Midrange Shopper
I had one of these previously and it took several years before the raccons managed to take off with it. In fact the wire that kept the lid in place went, the rest of it was still in good shape.I have been greatly disappointed in this one.The wire cage on one side was gone in a day and the other side went three days later.I managed to find a cheap wire suet holder and set it inside the frame. I used a copper wire to connect it to the wire hanger and the lid. So far that has worked.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: The item works great for feeding woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, etc. Unfortunately, the feeder was never meant to deter raccoons or other four legged animals. A squirrel or raccoon baffle can be use to prevent pests from damaging the feeder.
