Comments about Product: The tomato I put in this planter is not growing at all. I planted several in pots and in the gound at the same time and they are flourishing. I used then same soil with all of them. The basil is growing but not the tomato.
Need to be able to buy replaceable bags.
Comments about Product: When they first came out, I bought two. Done good. Had average tomatoes, good taste. Just wish, was able to buy replaceable bags. Bought two more, now, have the stands, no bags. In due time they start going bad due the weather. Wish they start selling the bags for these like the others.
Best Tomato Holder Ever
Comments about Product: My soil has a huge amount of clay and even with fertilizer and compost, didn't grow my tomatoes and peppers well.
They are growing like gangbusters now, and if I forget to water them for one day, the drip method takes care of that for me (except on very hot days).
Also, I have less of a bug problem now that the plants are off the ground.
Perfect for All Gardeners
Comments about Product: These tomato planters and stand are wonderful for growing fresh and ripe tomatoes. I have in previous years purchased many different tomato planters but none of them compare in yield or quality to this planter. I am enjoying all the delicious tomatoes from my garden!

Tomato Plus Planters
Comments about Product: I don't have time for a full-size garden this year but I really wanted tomatoes and herbs. This seems like the perfect solution!
Haven't decided yet
Comments about Product: Planted three tomato plants. Plants are huge, lush and very healthy looking but hardly any blooms. If they end up producing tomatoes like they should, I will be very happy with my purchase. There is no weeding or bending over and this is the first time I have ever had tomatoes that have looked this healthy. I just hope I see more blooms before long.

Just minimally satisfied
Comments about Product: I thought this would be an answer to the problem I have with deer eating my tomatoes. I set the tomato stand up on my patio. The top cover cracked and broke in the first few days I used it. My tomatoes definintely do not look like the ones in the picture! They are growing up instead of down (I believe that is their natural growing pattern.) I started out excited about this product and ended up rather disappointed.

Heads up, Tomatoes down.
Comments about Product: Growing three different kinds of tomato plants. Some do better than others.
Comments about Product: While this is a great idea, the stake is terribly flimsy and is in three pieces. Unless you had it so deep into the ground that the plants would hit the ground, it would not hold the weight of the planters. I threw it out and bought another stake that was one piece and more sturdy.
Not as shown
Comments about Product: The poles need to be taller for tomatoes, product did not come with needed hardware to hang. Had to add my own "S" hook. Attractive design.
Plants hang lower than expected
Comments about Product: Bought a topsy turvy last year from another store, but this is better.

So easy even my husband could do it!
Comments about Product: We love to grow vegetables and have not been able to in recent years for a variety of reasons. So when we saw the tomato tree we were thrilled. It gave us incentive to atleast grow tomatoes. We look forward to eating fresh tomatoes in the summer. The bag keeps the squirrels and birds away. I think the plants like it too. I don't know what is not great about it yet...if there will be something negative but so far so good.
Comments about Product: I loved this sooo much I bought another one for next year. I got the best tomatoes, no weeds and so easy to care for.
best thing ever for tomatoes
Comments about Product: I bought this for my husband to replace the big whiskey barrel we were using. we just love it. it is easy to move and has the cages for growth.
Terrific Rolling Tomato Planter
Comments about Product: I live in a cold climate so I grow my tomatoes in the sun room all year round and I have had plants produce continuously for two years. I bought two of these planters. I like that they roll, that I can start my plants right in the planter and when they are fully grown they will self water also they look nice in the sun room. They have sprouted from seed and are about three inches tall now -- I have four varieties and can't wait for them to grow. This is a very convenient way to grow tomatoes.

Just put seeds in!
Comments about Product: I bought two of these planters, I do like how they look and work on rollers. I live in a cold climate and I keep my tomatoes in the sun room as long as they keep producing. The seeds are planted so we will see how things go. I gave 5 stars for convenience and looks. Hope to write again when I have tomatoes.
Comments about Product: I want to order another one. Every time I check the availability, I read that it's not in stock and then Plow & Hearth offers me some other item. I don't want another item, I want this one! And no I'm not spoiled. It's just that when I use a good product and I want to purchase another one just like it, I want it. I guess I don't understand why it's so difficult to get more in stock so they can be used by your customers. I do think it's pricy for what you get. It was very easy to assemble. Please offer it again.
Comments about Product: This product is terrific! Great that you can move them around the deck depending on where the sun is. Light weight and easy to move. Love that I can now have tomatoes right outside the doors and not have to weed or stoop to pick the fruit.
Tomato Planter with Tower
Comments about Product: I bought these for my 80 y/o mother who wanted to plant tomato plants on their outdoor porch. The towers came rusted, no instructions where given and she has diffuclties rolling them around. We decided not to use the cages and stacked the plants instead.
I purchased 2 of these. They are wonderful to use in small areas such as a balcony or for parents who no longer can garden the way they at one time could. Also would be good for a person who does not want to fuss with a large garden--also good for peppers as well as herbs...
My parents are growing lovely veggies with in their planters and are rather happy with them.
Comments about Product: I was going to buy regular planters to grow tomatoes in. But then I saw this one. It came with a cage which is perfect. The cage was easy to assemble and it just right into the tomato planter. I put about one and a half layer of egg rock on the bottom and then the soil. I now have beautiful tomatoes plants growing. I bought six different type and size tomato plants and they all fit in the planter. They all look great. I keep the drainage hole in the front so I can see if it has too much water. I love it!
Rolling tomato planter
Comments about Product: Set up is easy. My tomato plants are in. I only put two in and one basal plant. The planter moves easily and is not too heavy as I had to bring it inside for a couple cold nights.

Great Rolling Container!
Comments about Product: This container works great for a small patio garden. It is super easy to roll from one sunny location to another!
Exactly as pictured and I love it

By Love my pots
I am glad I bought 2 of these!
Comments about Product: I used 1 pot for 2 tomatoes plants and they have already doubled in size in a week! Used Miracle grow moisture control and they are doing great! The other pot I used for 1 tomato plant and herbs and that too is doing great! If they weren't so expensive, I would buy another for green beans! I think you could put 2-3 pole beans in 1 pot! Didn't use the black cloth or side bars....
By Salsa Lady
Comments about Product: I bought 3 planters for my work for our "Green Initiative". 2 have tomato plants and the third has jalapenos and cilantro. We are making a salsa garden. I planted yesterday. The wheels are very sturdy and easy to maneuver. The tomato cage is the trickiest part. You definitely need 2 people to put together but once in the ground it seemed very stable.
By motormouth mom
Comments about Product: LOVE this planter! Used one to make a 'Pizza Garden' for my 3rd grader's class. I took the rectangle cage apart and made a square one using needlenose pliers. Then planted a tomato plant on one half and basil, oregano, & thyme on the other half. The kids decorated the planter and it looks great! For myself, I love being able to roll the planter around my patio. I like the shape and it seems deep enough. Only time will tell. I couldn't figure out what to do with the black cloth that's included. For the pizza garden, I put it at the bottom under the dirt and for my own tomato plant, I left it out completely. Maybe it's a weed barrier for the top?

Great for small spaces
Comments about Product: Went from a house with a large yard & garden to an apartment with a small balcony. Planted yellow pear tomato, armenian cucumber, basil and parsley. It's been about a month and it's getting pretty crowded - will have to thin out the herbs. Would be nice if there was detailed instructions, helpful tips and planting suggestions. Like other reviews, I did not know what to do with the black fabric. I used it on top to prevent evaporation. Planter and wheels are sturdy - it moves well! The tomato cage is unstable due to the blocking material.

self watering tomato planter with tower
Comments about Product: The included directions for assembly of the "tower" were confusing. Several connectors on the tower I received were bent which made locking together an issue.
Comments about Product: Excellent service. Quick delivery. Can't wait to start eating my fresh tomatoes!

Perfect for my patio
Comments about Product: I am newly retired and moved to an apartment with a tiny patio/balcony. This planter is perfect! I'm so excited about having tomatoes, and I put snow peas at one end, too.
Ripe tomatoes at the coast!
Comments about Product: We live in the cool foggy coastal climate of the PNW and last year was the first time we had wonderful sweet tomatoes! I was able to easily move the container to the sunny spots during the day.
Rolling Self-Watering Tomato Plant
Comments about Product: Easy to assemble and fill. Can't wait to start harvesting tomatoes this year. Love that the planter is on wheels and can be moved into the sun as needed. Bonus inside was a small upside down hanging tomato planter that I did not expect.
By A Beginner Gardner
Comments about Product: The product looks great. The wheels seem to move well across the deck. The cage is very sturdy. I'm really excited about getting started. My only complaint is lack of instructions. Being a beginner, I don't know a lot about planting tomato's. I have no idea what the black mat is for. My husband thinks it should be put in the bottom so dirt doestn't fall into the water well. I think it is a weed protector.

My tomatoes were the best ever!
Comments about Product: I purchased one of the self watering tomato planters after reading the reviews that others had posted. I saw that it was indeed well constructed and would be perfect for my needs, so I ordered a second one. I planted two different types of patio sized tomato plants, two in each planter and left them on my patio. Since I have a lot of trees, I was able to move these planters around to follow the sun as the summer progressed. They moved easily and did not roll once I had them in place. The tomatoes in these planters did so much better than the ones I had planted in large pots due to the self watering aspect. I loved this planter so much that I just ordered another one in preparation for next spring's planting (taking advantage of the free shipping offer!) and I will probably order one more as the season approaches.

Great Self Watering Planter
Comments about Product: This is an amazing product that is so easy to use and looks amazing on your own porch(or at least it does mine). What I loved about this was not only the quality of construction, but also the ease in which the product went together and how well the tomato plants are working with the cages. I have tried to grow tomatoes in pots before and it has not been very successful, but with this, at least so far, things are working quite well and the tomatoes seem to like their new home (though it is pretty early to tell what type of crop I will have). The wheels on this make the planter easy to move and even when you have dirt in the planter, it moves well on a smooth service or even on a deck. As you can tell I am quite impressed with this and I have already recommended this to other gardeners that I know as it provides you with both a great planter that is very aesthetically pleasing, but also provides a great home for the tomatoes you want to grow when you don't have room to grown them in your yard.
I can grow tomatoes on my deck!
Comments about Product: I have always wanted to grow my own tomatoes but the place where I would have to dig and maintain (weed & water) a garden for all day sun would be in an inconvenient place in the yard so I just never bothered. I was so happy when I came across this portable planter because it completely solved the inconvenience problem. There's a place on my deck right outside my sliding door where the sun hits all afternoon and all I have to do is slide open the door to water and eventually pluck a tomato fresh off the vine when I want one. Once the tomato plants have been established it even becomes self watering. The casters make this planter that much easier to use. It doesn't take up a lot of room in fact, it's the perfect size and it even looks nice. Since it's a planter and not the yard, no weeding is necessary...another convenience. For some strange reason it comes with a black weed cloth which I didn't bother using. It also comes with a few left over parts for the wire tower. My husband just hooked them across the top even though they're not shown on the picture shown on here. Another thing it comes with is a one of those upside down tomato planters that you hook on a stand. We assumed it was a free gift included with purchase. As others have mentioned it doesn't come with instructions or a diagram but it's easy enough to make work even if you end up with left over parts. LOL. Despite the lack of instruction I still give it a 5 star rating because I just love that I can now grow my own tomatoes so easily.
rolling tomato planter
Comments about Product: I am very pleased with the planter and the convenience of placing it in the direct sunlight throughout the day.
Rolling Tomatoe Planter
Comments about Product: We have grown alot of tomatoe plants before but never have we had as much success as we have had this year. Our plants are over 6 foot high and loaded with tomatoes. It was easy to assemble and we only put in 2 plants like suggested. It is so easy to water, with the spout on the outside. We are excited to see the tomatoes ripen.
I would buy this product again !!
Comments about Product: I dont understand some of the other reviews, because it is so simple to start up it does'nt need any instructions.Make the tomato stands square and stick them in,also there is only one place for the black felt thats on top of the soil for moisteure and weeds. It's just very easy no hassel in any way.
If tomotaoes r as good as item YES
Comments about Product: Just which it was bigger
love the portability, depth of this item
Comments about Product: This planter is ideal. Being self watering, it is important that there is good drainage in case of heavy rainfall. This is a great improvement over the older design.

EXCELLENT TOMATO PLANTER
Comments about Product: Some reviews said that there were no instructions for the wire cage....yes, but it was easy to assemble...I am 64 and only took me 5 minutes. I just push it around my deck to get the full sun. Moves very effortlessly and smoothly, even across the wooden deck. Wish that I had bought sooner. Going to buy another for next year. Love it!!
No assembly directions
Comments about Product: Good idea, but again -- no assembly or use directions included.
Comments about Product: Be sure and anchor with a brick
By Disc golfer
Comments about Product: Only holds two tomato plants. With the extreme heat in the south, we moved it to our covered patio and the tomato plants are thriving. Very easy to water. Be careful if your plants grow tall as it becomes top-heavy and will tip over in a strong wind.
A good buy
Comments about Product: I have a yard where there is not one spot to grow tomatoes due to not enough sunlight. With the easy to move planters, and they are easy to move, I have kept my plants in the sun with an easy roll throughout the day.
Planter is good but cage is useless
Comments about Product: The planter seems to be constructed well. The cages were extremely difficult to assemble and does not want to stay together. Instructions would have been helpful.
By princess 60
Comments about Product: The wheels allow movement around a patio to follow the sun.
The wire surrounding the plants is sturdy enough for support.
It is perfect for a senior citizen who can no longer bend to maintain a garden, but still desires to raise a few tomatoes.

Great way to grow plants!
Comments about Product: LOVE the wheels feature. Can keep veggie plants up on my deck away from critters, and move wherever sun is shining.
Very nice, Like the water retention.
Comments about Product: Easy to move where the sun is,

I will buy this product again
Comments about Product: The planter is great, easy to assemble. Holds three tomato plants if you connect cages to make one large. Cant wait to try it for beans and peas.
Already recommend to my older relatives for ease of relocation. Does not leave the dark circles on patio that other pots do. Great Product
Just like the picture in the catalog.
Comments about Product: Love the "self-watering tomato planter. Just hope my tomatoes look as great as the planter. Everyone who sees it wants to know where I found it. Wish me luck on growing tomatoes for the first time! [...]

Rolling Planters Rock!
Comments about Product: We needed something to plant tomatoes in that would eliminate the need for dedicated land for that purpose, since the garden area is quite compact. These planters are just the ticket! While a bit smaller than they look in the ad, their lack of size is easily outweighed by the durablity and practical application they provide. To make up for size, we got two!
Great item for patio or small space
Comments about Product: We're using it this year while our garden lies fallow to grow 2 tomato plants. We keep it close to the house to discourage birds. Strange, though, that it came with a mat-like item that we didn't know what to do with and no instructions or information of any kind about how to set up. My husband figured it out but it would have been easier with some written help. Otherwise, so far, so good.
Falls over in wind
Comments about Product: I have 2 non-determinate tomato plants growing nicely in potting mix. When I awakened yesterday morning, the planter was lying on its side. A strong wind during the night turned it over. I righted it with little damage, and refilled the water reservoir, but am concerned about being gone for a few days and the possibility of a wind upset.

Best Darn Tomato Planter on the Market!
Comments about Product: The best darn tomato planter on the market! The wheels and cage make the difference from other planters. The cage comes with the planter, you don't have to pay extra. The wheels make it mobile, rolling it away from strong winds and thunderstorms to a safe area.
Just as advertised-plus.
Comments about Product: [...]All in all very pleased all the way around.

I would buy this planter again and again
Comments about Product: [...],I just planted my tomatoes yesterday,,very sturdy!!!It's on wheels, easy to manipulate and sturdy structure,,the metal posts are swell and the plants will climb easily with no problem.Much better than tall sticks!!!!

No instructions, unidentified parts
Comments about Product: You are left on your own to figure this thing out. Only cursory instructions for planter, none for the tower. Despite the wheels, I don't expect it to be easily moved over a deck. The only reason I have any idea what to do with the black fabric thing is from other reviewer's comments. I can't imagine needing it for weed control in a planter. Maybe it will help to conserve moisture. There are still spare parts for the tower that have no obvious function. Who knows? I may grow to like it.
Cage Done in 5 Minutes
Comments about Product: Even though the cage came with no instructions, it was easy to put together. 5 minutes tops!
The weed cover came oversized, but it was easy to cut to form.

Seems sturdy enough
Comments about Product: No instructions enclosed so you guess how everything goes together. But seems sturdy and of good quality.
Where are the instructions??
Comments about Product: Purchased planter for my husband's easter gift. He was trying to install tower around the planter. Since there weren't instructions printed online pictures so he could get idea how tower went together. Also, he assumed black material mat was to be placed in bottom of planter.
Comments about Product: Hope this thing lasts longer than it took to put the tower together! Instructions would be nice!

Neat planter, but came w/no instruction
Comments about Product: I think I will really like this product once I get it all assembled. The cage is a little difficult to assemble and came with no instructions. There is also a weed cloth included. I like that the whole thing is one piece, and one price. A good value.
Best of all my self-waterig tomato boxes
Comments about Product: I have 6 big self-watering planters from different manufacturers. This is by far the best. Everything is included for one price. No extra charges for casters, and cage. I'm going to order 2 more today. So glad they have them again this year. They ran out quick last year. [...]

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
