I added the rain barrel to an existing downspout that was near the garden. It collects the water now for use when we have dry spells but also keeps the chlorine in our water out of my flowers. The built in overflow worked perfectly. Draining for the winter with valve open.

I do love it, but there are a couple design flaws. When it rains hard the water splashes off the screen and doesn't fill the barrel. The planter will never work, if you fill with dirt and plant flowers during a heavy rain the overflow will wash the dirt and plants right out of the planter area.

My husband and I set up the rain barrel urn a day or so before hurricane Sandy hit the east coast of the USA. Happy to say that it survived the storm. It caught the excess water saving my indoor/outdoor carpet.

Instructions were exact and easy to follow for set up. We had some problem with the faucet installation. It still leaks ever so little-- but not a problem to nearby flowers. Also, the flowers we planted in the top area are just beautiful!

It would be great if there was a matching stand so you could get a 2 gallon bucket under the valve. I'll just build my own stand. The product works great. I have already bought a second one, identical to this one, for $100 less.

Comments about Plowhearth Rain Barrel Urn:

We received the product much quicker than I would have thought and in great shape. We bought the rainbarrel with the intent to use this instead of putting in a french drain. We were having a problem with run off from our roof line and because we have special boxed eaves, they do not recommend that you put in gutters. Because our run off had a very strong direction off the roof line we tried the rain barrel to catch the majority of the run off. It worked! We no long have a holding area of water in front of our house and it much easier and less expensive than putting in a french drain.
