I use the fireplace to burn logs 7 nights a week and all day and night on the weekends. You can vacumn hot ash as well as cool. It holds several days worth of ash and there is no fear of fire. I love it. Only disadvantage, sometimes a large piece of wood that didn't burn completely will clog the aluminum hose and we have to unattach hose and get the clog out. The vac is well constructed, and a quality vac, but the unit is not at all functional. The vac will only pick up ash and I mean only powder ash, the vac was continually getting clogged with bits of charred wood, clinkers, and any matter that was not totally reduced to powder ash. The unit is not cheap and in my opinion was a total waste of money. Rally I should have retuned the vac. Bottom line the best, fastest way to clean the fireplace is a bucket & shovel, it may be a little dirty, but it works Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend Merchant response: We appreciate the feedback. The filter in the vacuum is designed to catch the finest ash and prevent it from getting into the air. So, over time it will gradually become caked with ash in normal use.
