        Comments about Compost Crocks:

I purchased rhe Compost Crock several years ago and can only find the biodegradeable bags and filters at Plow and Herth. My garden loves the compost and the landfill doesn't get my household waste. Everyone should try it!

I was told [...] that the Honey Pot would be fruit-fly proof but it is not, so I was quite disappointed. I have to put a paper towel under the lid to keep them out!

          Comments about Compost Crocks:

I haven't actually opened this roll of bags yet, but have been using this brand of bags for quite some time. It's great not having to wash my crock every time I empty it and I think they help keep those pesty little flies away. You do need to be careful in tearing the bags off the roll; they can tear. All in all, though, I really do like them!

Honey Pot shape is poor design - bag rip

          By Bummed

          from Portsmouth, RI

          Verified Reviewer

          Comments about Compost Crocks:

It's beautiful, but we found the rounded shape not pratical. When it gets full, the bag is not easy to remove due to the opening being smaller than the middle and it causes the bio bag to rip. We'll be returing ours and getting a cylinder type. It's too bad, because it's a beautiful pot, attractive on our counter and works great except for the shape.

I LOVE this Crock! It looks great on my countertop and the charcoal filter keeps all the smells inside. It's super easy to take outside to empty into our big compost bin!

              Pros

              • A place to throw things
              • Close to sink

              Cons

              • Flys
              • Gnats all over kitchen
              • Maggots all over

              Best Uses

              • Placed out side

              Comments about Compost Crocks:

I thought this would be a good way to throw out food items, put them in a compost bin after 3-4 days. But at day 3 there wew so many gnats in the kitchen I put up fly strips and placed the crock under the sink. Two days later when I went to empty it (we were using the liners as well) there were maggots all over the lid, it the air filter, and all around the inside. I am moving this out side where it will stay, it kind of dedeats the purpose of getting it. We wanted some where close to throw bio garbage away.

                  Comments about Compost Crocks:

I thought it would be good to use bags so that I could just take that out to compost pile, but they are too hard to get out of honey pot when full. Easier to just take the whole thing outside and rinse it before next use.

I'm glad you have not discontinued the charcoal filters for the Compost Crocks.
I have had mine for a number of years, and I truly believe that decomposed stuff enhances the garden soil.
I have given this Crock as a gift to a gardener friend.

I use it for recycling. It is just perfect for my counter, not too big or too small.
I am afraid the handle will slip off. It has once or twice and I was very careful in carrying it. It is not too secure.

Cute shape...reminds me of my kid's favorite preschool Winnie the Pooh movies. The filter is a nice idea but it only works about a week or so...would be nice if they could be washed in the dishwasher and used again. Just one filter is included, but if its emptied frequently, it really isn't necessary. I use a plastic grocery sack to line it, so I usually can just rinse it out.

What I quickly found was that the pail got stinky and was gross to clean. When I saw the stainless steel compost pail with the compost-able bags, I knew I found the PERFECT solution!!

I purchased because it was very attractive for the price. The Honey Pot bottom is larger than the opening which makes it very hard to empty. Do not waste money buying the bio bags because you can't get them out without tearing. Need to redesign the item.

I purchased this compost crock recently. It wasn't long before fruit flies began swarming all over the counter and cabinets near the item. I took it outdoors, emptied it, hosed it thoroughly and tried again. Each time, in a matter of days, the fruit flies were back. They lay eggs in the charcoal filter and multiply rapidly.

These are great to use when cleaning vegetables and peeling fruit. They contain odors very well. The lid on the second one doesn't fit snuggly. The groove on the top inside is hard to clean.

We ordered the ceramic compost pot in yellow. I really liked the picture of this in the catalogue (not the correct picture on this webpage), but check out the measurements before you order. This pot is bigger than a good size cookie jar. If you don't go to the compost pile very often then this might work for you, but we just found it overwhelming the rest of the cabinet. We are returning it and will search for a more manageable size.
