We put this together in about an hour. Very easy to assemble! One person and a step ladder is all you need, but a friend can help hold upthe other end. Simple classic design! We slid a cinder block over the poststo weigh down pergola on the patio. And it held up well during winter storms.Would reccomend to a friend!

After rec. the first Pergola and finding that it was constructed wrong and missing parts, we got the second one delivered. This one was also missing items so we had to take from the first one that was shipped to us to make one complete Pergola. The instructions were very hard to figure out. The product is nice looking but not worth the money.

Update after the winter

Comments about Plowhearth Retractable Roof Pergola:
Well, I still like the way this looks, but we did discover that the rope disintegrated the minute we reinstalled the canopy after the winter. Now we'll have to figure out how to restring some new nylon rope. This is such a small detail, but a HUGE aggravation and is so integral to the functioning of the canopy...you'd think they could spring for some more expensive rope in the first place!

Too much money for the overall quality.
Not the value for the cost.

The lack of directions and the hard to read print.Nice addition to our back yard
We're happy with it so far.

This is a very good looking pergola. I especially like that it's sort of a greyish-black. It's a little short (husband is 6'4"), but we mounted it on concrete deck footings and a couple of pavers, so we raised it up about a foot. We'll see if it survives a winter! Like the retractable awning, but it came without 3 of the clips needed. (Customer service got them to us a week later - used big paper clips in the meantime, but would it kill them to just include a few extra to begin with? Same with the bolts...) Not hard at all to assemble. I did it myself, but a second pair of hands makes it go faster.

I love the idea, I hate the directions

Purchased for use on patio. The diagram and directions provided are almost useless. For example, I cannot tell the beam with the white awning hangers should be have the hooks on top or the bottom. Anyone know? [...]

This particular product is the perfect size. I have always wanted a pergola but was leary to having one built because the weather is so dry here and the wood would require a lot of maintenance. This metal one is perfect for our southwest desert.
Cheap but Looks Expensive

The retractable roof allows me to cover when I'm reading and open when I am getting a tan. Although it is not very mobile, there is no need to store it away since it is very strong and can face any weather.

put on patio to help with sun in afternoon.works wonderful. love the fact that I can choose to have sun or not on patio.
Not sure how it will handle bad weather.

The instructions to put together are a joke! Jeff from Idaho unscrew and remove the screw on the front of the middle track and make sure pull string is on top over screw when you put screw back, the string will then hang from the front of track on pergola.
from BOISE, IDAHO
INSTRUCTION NEED MAJOR HELP. THE LIMITED DIAGRAMS DO NOT MATCH THE ACTUAL PARTS SO WE HAD TO GUESS IF CORRECT. ALSO THE PULL CORD IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE TRACK AND HANGS DOWN IN THE MIDDLE.

Love the pergola..awning needs work

Perfect size for our deck! Love the retractable awning, but had problems during a strong wind storm with some of the plastic clips breaking and hangers bending. Instructions for hanging/using the pulley on the awning need to be in clearer detail. [...].

good. but should include cement bolts.

we modified the installation to be used on a patio. Used cement screws. we also added a cleat to tie the cord so the wind would have little affect.
