This sideboard is a wonderful size for my outdoor grilling area. I had looked for months to find a similar item that was in an affordable price range. At the present, I am using it next to my grill to hold utensils, etc. but I also plan to use it next to my eating area as a serving table when I entertain.I usually have to get a friend or hire someone to assemble things for me, but I was able to put this together by my little ole self so you know it must be easy!I do plan to purchase a grill cover before winter to protect my new investment from the elements.

This sideboard looks lovely in the picture, so I thought it would be a nice addition. Unfortunately, it's junk. It's very poorly made, the boards are warped, hard to put together, nuts were the wrong size, metal frame pieces were bent, and on and on. I didn't think Plow & Hearth would sell such poor qualify merchandise. Trust me, you don't want to waste your money on this product.

Comments about Plowhearth Outdoor Sideboard:
I bought this to use on our covered patio for a party we're having in a couple of weeks.I started out putting this table together myself. I am a woman, and my husband says I am "not mechanically minded." Okay. I was doing fine, but some of the boards were obviously cut when they were way too green, so they're warped and the bolt holes don't necessarily line up well. There are no pilot holes drilled anywhere for attaching the scroll. You're on your own to figure that one out, and the wood WILL crack if you don't drill those holes first. The instructions are junk. I would have been lost if I hadn't spent the past decade putting together outdoor kid toys. The pictures on the instructions are grainy, and you're never told what length bolts to use where. I highly suggest not tightening anything until you're 100% sure how everything goes together. Also, the decorative scroll goes between the cedar shelves, not on top of the unit. Somebody at P&H must have had trouble with the instructions too...Then, my husband got home, and while, bless him, he got out a ratchet that was to be my best friend tightening the MANY bolts (the tools they send are also junk), between his frustration with the shoddy instructions, warped wood, and missing pieces, and my own frustration, we were at each other's throats for an hour. We're going to need the drinks we plan on using this table to serve (although it's wobbly, so don't know how that's going to work without some shims) when we get the missing pieces so we can finish putting this together. The only reason I gave this even two stars was because I bought it on sale for 60% off, and it is almost worth what I paid.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very Functional Item
By Decorating Gal
from Dothan, AL
The assembly tools that came with the side board were woefully inadequate. It took 2 1/2 hours to assemble this item and my husband had to do it using a socket wrench and an allen wrench attached to a drill. However the side board works great on our screened porch and will serve many purposes from storage and display to a spot for food and beverage service. We live in a very warm, humid climate and it remains to be seen how well the unit holds up.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We are using it as a coffee station for our single serve coffee pot and all the things that go with it. It works perfect for that purpose.

Just what I wanted
from Western Mass.
I am looking forward to using this as a decorative piece on my deck and also using it for a serving station when I have get-togethers. I just put it together today and am very pleased with the look and the sturdiness of it. The one and only complaint I have is the directions - holy cow, what a time I had putting this together! I had to undo some of the nuts and bolts that I had already put in (and I HATE having to do that when it shouldn't be necessary) and think through how I was going to assemble the slats with the functional scrolls that hold the top shelf. You are really on your own for most of the upper assembly and have to rely on trial and error. The instructions, which are actual photographs, show the decorative upper scroll attached in a different place than the online picture shows, and there are no markings that I can find which show where to attach the scroll, you have to measure and mark where you think it should go. All in all not a major deal, but I can see someone with minimal assembly skills having a frustrating time of it. Poor instructions notwithstanding, I still think this is a great addition to my deck and I'm glad I bought it.
High Quality Sideboard

Service and delivery were excellent. I am using the sideboard to grow my plants indoors for winter, then, next summer, I will use it on my patio. I absolutely love this piece of outdoor furniture. It is very well constructed. There were no cheap materials used in the making of this product. It is something that will last for years.
Very nice sideboard

This is the the outdoor countertop I need for my small deck and grill!
Nice patio addition
Not heavy duty, but a nice light usage piece for any patio.
from Edgewood NM
Very hard to put together as some screws/bolts did not fit the top of the table.Once put together, it looks nice. Not terribly sturdy, however.
This sideboard was not easy to put together, not made very well, missing screws, very disspointed.
Wonderful addition to your patio or deck

I use the sideboard to hold beverages and/or food for company. It was just the piece I needed for my patio to set such items.

We use this as a sideboard for grilling and patio parties. The 2 shelves make for extra serving space in a small area. The wooden slats will have to be treated for next year and we will winter store it out of the weather in the garage. It took 2 of us to figure out how to assemble it.
a backyard must have

this sideboard table is just that and more. we use it for additional space while grilling and also to set up appetizers, ice bucket, glasses and condiments which allows for more space on the patio dining table. everyone that has been to a BBQ at our home has made a remark of how great that table is.leg bottoms are rough and could scratch pavers or sink into dirt. we applied a rubber holder to bottom of each leg.

We're using it out on our patio for an extra serving area. It was very difficult to put together and it took my experienced husband several hours. We ended up having to call customer service because of missing parts and a warped board. They took care of things within a couple of weeks but we felt it took too long. It's an ok piece but we felt it was a little overpriced for the quality since it's wobbly and not very sturdy.
It serves as a bar
By Stitch and Rip
from Middle Peninsula, VA
this fits perfectly on our screen porch and we are using it as a bar. Plenty of room on the bottom shelf for wine bottles.
Just the right size table.
from New Washington, OH
I like that's its light weight. I mainly use it by the grill and on another occasion, I've picked it up and moved it over by the fire pit for when we cooked hot dogs and smores over the fire.
looks great, very handy

Very nice to have next to the grill for extra counter/serving space. Looks good, but I'll wait and see how it holds up to weather. It was fairly easy to put together, but lots of screws! Had my 10-year-old daughter help with that.

I reccomend using a wood stain to prevent blackening around the areas with bolts. Otherwise nice, simple classy addition to our deck.
assembly instructions a nightmare

Don't buy if you have difficulty assembling. Instructions don't show everything. I was very disappointed with that fact. Quality average.

It warps if left outside
By The Admiral
from Sewickley, PA
I use it as a sideboard to my grill and as extra serving space for outside dinning. It is the right size for a small porch. It was not too hard to put together if you have the right tools and an hour. The wood warps and makes the horizontal surface uneven. I wish I had painted it before I assembled it!
from Tacoma, WA
I really like the appearance of this product. However, the quality did not meet expectations. Arrived with missing hardware and broken wood slats; replacement slat was really warped. Wood is really weak; bends with even moderate weight. Metal legs uneven on one stool. I can still use the table for BBQ serving.
Makes a great bar.
from Bridgeton, NJ
I use it as a bar and it is great for that. Have received many compliments on it.
from Boulder, CO
Wooden slats are thin and split easily but we replaced them with a tile top so it didn't matter to us. Bolt heads are rusting after just a month on the patio in a dry climate-could have a better finish. Overall quite useful but average construction quality. Would recommend it to someone wanting to rebuild it with better parts.
Great addition to home...
from Fleetwood, NC
Choose to stain and polyurethene the boards before assembly as the unit is being used for coffee service. Sometimes for two and, at holidays, for 22.
Love it still after 4 months!
from Moorpark, CA
We have used this new sideboard constantly since we got it. I store items such as candles, bug spray, grill lighters etc so they are in one place yet out of the way. When we have parties, I easily move it to a more central area and use it to put the large containers of ice tea, lemonade and adult drinks on as well as the side items such as ice, lemons, limes etc that go wonderfully on the top shelf.
Great for entertaining, but...
from Chester NH
Great addition to our new deck and pool area. Placed towels on the lower shelf, suntan lotion and pool accessories on the top. Used the bar stools as high top tables! Only disadvantage is that it faded from the sun and ABSOLUTELY requires a coating of polyurethane or similar to protect from weather.

I needed something close to the grill for dishes, utencils, food going on/off the grill at different times. I wanted something that would fit into the natural setting of my deck. The deck should be featured in your catalog!

Just put table together and because two boards were warped difficult to get screws in proper postition. Will need to reinforce underneath because of the warped boards. Otherwise it looks nice and will use it on the deck as a sideboard.
