Comments about Product: The wedding crock that I ordered from Plow and Hearth was perfect. The color was lovely, the size was versatile enough to use as a kitchen tool holder, vase for flowers or even a large drinking vessel. The recipients were please to have a personalized memento of their wedding. date.
Comments about Product: This was a gift for my daughter for her 1st wedding anniversary. I have not seen the product, but she reports that the lettering was even and color consistent throughout, and she liked it very much. My suggestion would be a font that allows for the full spelling of the month, day and year- I think the longest month is 8 letters long( which I needed 7) - I think it detracts somewhat from the appearance of the piece to have to abbreviate the date.
Comments about Product: I have nothing but rave reviews about the product itself I'm quite satisfied, although it would be nice to be able to get more than 13 characters in the "date" space. The shipping time was better than the expected 6-8 weeks - 4.5 weeks! HOWEVER - P&H could not tell me when the product would ship, but assured me there would be some shipping notice via e-mail. Yes there was an e-mail, but it arrived on the same day as the package!!! Great timing.... (sarc.) A week after I ordered the custom crock, I looked at the P&H website which said I'd been charged and the crock had shipped already - I thought "Great service", but this is probably impossible for a custom item, so I called. I was given an "order number" which I could put in a certain spot on the site, but it never seemed to recognize the number. Anyway, enough of this - don't expect much from customer service, unless this is a problem specific to customized orders. P&H should have a better handle on such things - production promises for individual orders. Good product, poor customer "service".
Comments about Product: The anniversary crock is pretty, casual, and functional (i.e., flower vase, kitchen utensil holder, etc.).
It arrived mostly as expected. The lettering was centered over/under the tulip image appropriately. One minor irritation is that the top band is obviously blue while the bottom band and the rest of the lettering and image on the crock is green (as requested). I would be more frustrated if this had been a gift for others; however, because it was for our own anniversary, we can live with the inconsistency.
Comments about Product: i had ordered one of these crocks about 10 years ago. they look the same in the ad. however, the crock i just received is much smaller than the previous one. dissapointed. i'm keeping it but can't use it for the intended purpose.
Comments about Product: I bought this for a friend who shares my wedding anniversary (same day and month but different year) but when I asked to have August 20, 2010 put on the crock they said it was too many characters. When I pointed out that the catalog shows a December month spelled out with the full day and year and it was longer than what I wanted they said it was a bit deceiving... I ordered it anyway and it looks great but we had to shorten August down to Aug.
Comments about Product: I purchased this as a wedding gift for my nephew. It met my expectations and is a beautiful handcrafted gift. I'm sure he and his bride will love it! My only negative is it was a little pricey. But I plan on ordering a second one for another wedding gift
Comments about Product: This could be a Great Gift for Weddings or Anniversaries. BUT...As stated in other reviews "Embossing is "NOT CORRECTLY" centered.
The bottom line (date) is way off center to the right. This cheapens the sentiment as a gift. Looks like a purchase from an Outlet Store.
Comments about Product: I read the reviews before purchasing this product and was hesitant that the lettering and coloring wouldn't be as depicted. However, I was very HAPPY when I opened the box and love both the color (blue) and the lettering. This will make a very nice 50th Anniversary gift for my parents.
Comments about Product: I felt the inscription was not high quility since it was off center. I also called the company to find out where it was after a few weeks since I lost my confirmation number - they never called back.
Comments about Product: My friends loved their names on this personalized crock.......they planned on using it up at their cabin......exactly where I hoped they would.....
They were impressed with the crock......loved how it looked.
Comments about Product: bought this for my newly married son and his wife, it is very nice but the names on top are totally off center. I am keeping it , but am really disappointed that who ever made this didn't think to center names over picture.
Comments about Product: It took almost 6 weeks to get this item in. It looks great, however, I have to wait yet another 6 weeks since they put the incorrect wedding date which ruined the surprise. I handed it to my wife, she saw the wrong date and basically shoved it back in my face. I clearly had the right date on order.
Comments about Product: Perfect for a wedding gift. It's study & pretty enough to hold their kitchen utensils. I asked to have their names and the date reversed as February is a long word and I wanted it all spelled out. They did it and it looks so nice. I can't wait to give it to them at their wedding.
Comments about Product: I was disappointed that I could not have the entire date October 6, 2012 on the crock. The sample in your catalog has October 10, 2012. However, only up to 13 characters could be included. Your sample should have shown the max characters correctly
Comments about Product: This wedding crock is a great shower or wedding gift. What a great idea to always have a reminder of that special day on the mantel. The couple absolutely loved it. I will definitely buy this crock again !
Comments about Product: It made for a very special personalized gift for my sister-in-law and her husband who were celebrating 10 yrs together. My sister-in-law was impressed with the quality and she makes pottery!
Comments about Product: Well made and nice to look at. Green lettering not a good choice. Does not look like photo. Appears used black first then lightly added see thru green. Would be very pleased if green was more solid.
Comments about Product: As this was a gift, and it took awhile to receive it due to the engraving, I was very, very disappointed in the engraving job. The top line is fine. But the date at the bottom is offset from the name at the top, and it does not look good. Especially for as much as I paid for the crock.
I will be returning it for a better engraving job, I just have to wait until the gift date cuz there is not enough time to return it ans get a new engraving job done in time.
Comments about Product: Very pretty crock, however I received it with a huge crack right on the top and down into the inside of the crock. It had clear glaze over it, so it's not like it happened in shipping. Need to work on your quality control, nobody ever should have personalized that and sent it out.
Comments about Product: Purchased as a wedding gift for my niece, I'm sure her & her new husband will love it! It was even a little bigger than I had imagined, very heavy. Will definitely buy this again for upcoming weddings.
Comments about Product: Love this to give as a wedding gift. Ordered two this summer. The date stamp on the bottom of one was slightly crooked. The other one was fine. I considered sending it back, but then decided it was acceptable, but Plow and Hearth, please be careful! Put those stamps on straight! Don't worry, I'll still be a repeat customer!
Comments about Product: This item makes for a wonderful wedding present. It's useful, functional, and pretty. Haven't given it to the couple yet, but I know they'll love it as much as I do. And it's personalized!
Comments about Product: I bought this item for my personal use to commemorate our anniversary and I love this item. So well made, beautiful, and functional. In our country home we have used it for flowers, matches at the fireplace, and decorative with our wedding picture at our son's rehearsal dinner. Very special. Everyone we have given one to really cherishes this personalized crock.
Comments about Product: Given to my son and his wife as an anniversary gift. They have it sitting in their kitchen. Though smaller than I'd expected the crock was still a nice gift with the names & wedding date personalization.
Comments about Product: I have bought 15 or more of these crocks for wedding gifts. Gave to all 3 of my kids, nieces, nephews, friends etc. everyone loves them. The husbands like them as they serve as a reminder of anniversary date! :)
Comments about Product: [...] looked just as beautiful as those in the picture. The dimensions surprized me a little; I guess they were not listed. So I will tell you that it is 8 1/4 inches tall, 5 1/4 inches across on the bottom, and 4 inches across on the top (so it is very stable) It is also heavy for it's size (being solid pottery) We are just thrilled with it!
Comments about Product: This item was purchased as a wedding gift and worked very well in that capacity because of the name and date personalization. It is a little too expensive for what you get however, and would be a much better value at about half the price.
Comments about Product: The wedding crock stands on my kitchen counter with all the necessary utensils and it's big enough to hold quite a few. I bought it for myself and have given 3 of them as gifts.
Comments about Product: I gave this as a wedding gift and the happy couple was thrilled with it! They loved having their names and the date on it and they also loved having a vase that they could use for many things. It's a good one!
Comments about Product: Lived in central PA for over ten years, very near the pottery factory where these are created, and always wanted one. Just got remarried after being single many years and gave ours to my new bride as a first anniversary present 'to us' early December.
Comments about Product: My daughter was married in April, but I waited a bit to order this item, as I knew they would be moving and I wanted to be sure of the color. (I ordered the green.) Both my daughter and son-in-law were beyond pleased with this when I visited their new home for the first time. My daughter joked that there would be no excuse for forgetting their anniversary! Absolutely perfect!
Comments about Product: I have purchased nine wedding crocks over the years for shower gifts for family and friends. The couples love them because they are a great personalized gift. I usually buy an assortment of kitchen utensils the bride and groom have registered for and place them in the crock--makes for a perfect addition to their kitchen!
Comments about Product: This was an aniversary gift to my partner, marking forty-seven years together. It arrived from Plough and Hearth the day after we returned from Massachusetts where we had celebrated our anniversary by getting legally married.
Since buying the personalized crock from Plough and Hearth I have not seen it featured in their recent catalogs. I hope it's not been discontuned -- I'd like to buy some more jugs personalized for special days of family and friends.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
