Got this "peppermint pig" after hearing about it from a friend. My daughter loves pigs and I was going with a pig theme this Christmas. Didn't know the reasoning behind pigs at Christmas time until now. Thought it would be a fun new tradiion. The pig came VERY quickly in time for Christmas, the box was a bit smashed but the product was fine.

I bought one of these about 15 years ago, and everyone here for Christmas dinner loved it! Since them, I've bought 5 of them every year as Christmas gifts. One always goes to my daughter and her family and friends, and my son for his family and friends. Every year the pig is the most asked about gift at both homes. I take the other three and share them with friends for their holiday meal. Even people who don 't like peppermint love the Peppermint Pig! I love seeing the smiles on people's faces when they realize they are one of my favorite families, because getting the PP is a very special gift!

I first heard of the Pepermint Pig in November of 1995. There was a local Albany show highliting local businesses that were thriving. There was an interview with the owner of Saratoga Sweets along with interviews with the elderly in a retirement home to see if they remembered the pig from their childhood. I was simply blown away and had to get a pig for Christmas Dinner. We have had our pig ritual at Christmas dinner every year since and have become responsible for sending out pigs for all of our family and friends all over the country.

I purchased my first pig in 2008, but it didn't arrive in time for our family gathering at christmas, so we put it in the pantry and pulled it out 2009 and celebrated all the good things that happened to our family that year. WE have purchased one every year since then. It is a great family tradition we get to share with our daughters.

My Christmas Dinner usually has 4 or 5 women and 1 man, my nephew, so the honor of first swing will go to him. I'm sure it will be enjoyed by all and could become a given for our dinner.

We used the peppermint pig at a family gathering and followed the traditions enclosed with it. It was lots of fun, the children thought it was fun to watch the adults hammer the pig and the quality of the peppermint candy is wonderful.

When my husband and I were married in 1992, we began the tradition of breaking the Peppermint Pig at Thanksgiving dinner - his favorite holiday. Everyone always looked forward to passing the pig and little hammer around the table, taking a piece, and making our wishes for the New Year. My husband passed away three years ago, but we have continued the tradition of the Peppermint Pig in his honor.... We love it!

I bought two of these pigs for gifts, decided to try one of them, and discovered that first, it was hard to break apart, and when broken tended to shatter in sharp pieces. I decided not to give them as gifts.

It is no secret that the times have been tough and money very tight. Bringing the little piggy out of the red velvet pouch brought smiles to everyones face. With each tap of the hammer a little piece of delicious candy fell and a wish for a better year went out. Each wish was different from the littlest to the oldest. 2010 has already been a better year - must have worked!
