UPDATE: Gifts That Give Back 2021

WOW! Many sincere thanks to all of our customers for making the 2021 campaign a resounding success! Thank you for helping us give back to local, community-supported charitable organizations. Check back often for updates on donation amounts and how the funds will help families, children, animals, the planet and more!



Madison Emergency Services Association Food Pantry



With our customers’ support, we donated $27,700 to MESA Food Pantry in January 2022.

For each can of select Virginia Peanuts sold October-December of 2021, we pledged to donate $1 with a goal of 19,000 cans…which we beat, once again, thanks to you! In addition, our peanut supplier, Virginia Diner, generously pledged and donated an additional $7,500.

MESA is mostly volunteer supported, and the staff work tirelessly to serve more than 6,300 individuals from 2,800 families per year helping with unexpected emergencies, food insecurity and basic necessities. Donations support the community in many ways, including:



  • A fully stocked food pantry serving 400+ families a month
  • Access to personal care products, diapers and cleaning products
  • Monetary assistance with rent, utilities bills and medical/
    dental bills
  • Clothing and domestic supplies; housing placement assistance
  • Transportation assistance: gas money for work commute, automobile insurance

Every donation and dollar gift is stewarded to get the most “bang for the buck” because MESA exists only to serve Madison County residents’ most basic needs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia in Madison




As part of our 2021 Gifts That Give Back Campaign, we pledged a $1 donation to BGC of Madison for each one of our loveable Animal Body Pillows sold October-December of 2021. Our donation goal was 10,000 dollars…and we did it, thanks to you!

This donation will help offset the Club’s full-day summer program expenses. The cost to serve one child for the entire summer is approx. $1,500, but with support the Club can maintain its low summer membership fees of only $100.

Shelter for Help in Emergency




A candle in the window is a beacon of hope and a universal symbol of shelter and welcome. With your support, we helped turn the sales of our customer-favorite Colonial Window Candles into a $20,000 donation to Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE). Founded in 1979 in Charlottesville VA, SHE gives peace, hope and safety to those experiencing domestic violence. SHE offers support through a combination of residential, community-based and outreach services.

As part of our 2021 Gifts That Give Back Campaign, we pledged a $1 donation to SHE for each of our Window Candles you purchased October-December of 2021. Our goal was 12,000 candles…and we far exceeded that – THANKS TO YOU! This donation will help offset SHE’s operating budget, with an emphasis on their 24-Hour Crisis Hotline Service and Lethality Assessment Program

To do this we work with the whole person and take into consideration needs that encompass physical and emotional safety, financial stability, safe and affordable housing, social/emotional skills, and the lingering effects of trauma. For Mother’s Day 2021, we pledged a portion of that weekend’s sales to SHE. Our goal was the equivalent of 150 safe nights. With our customers' help, we were able to reach our goal for a total donation of $7,000.

National Forest Foundation





We’ve made caring for the environment a priority since we first opened in 1980. Together with our customers, we’ve already planted more than 3 million trees nationwide through our Campaign to Reforest America. Once again this year, for each one of our exclusive Pewter Ornaments you purchase, we will donate a tree seedling to the NFF.

Blue Ridge Area Food Bank



Since 2017, we’ve donated $28,500 and over 4,200 lbs. of food to help combat hunger. Donations are directed to BRAFB and our local MESA Food Pantry.

With our customers’ support, we were able to donate $24,838 to BRAFB in January 2021 through our 2020 Gifts That Give Back program.

For each can of select Virginia Peanuts sold October-December of 2020, we pledged to donate $1 with a goal of 15,000 cans. We beat our goal by selling 17,338 cans of peanuts. Plus, our peanut supplier, Virginia Diner, generously pledged and donated an additional $7,500.



Did you know that $1=4 meals? Our 2020 “Can Hunger” goal was 60,000 meals…and we surpassed that by providing approximately 99,000 meals.

Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA




We love our “fur babies!” Since 2018, we’ve donated $11,554 to the life-saving care and shelter of thousands of dogs and cats. Our donations are directed to the Charlottesville-Albemarles SPCA (a No-Kill organization) and the Madison County Animal Shelter.

With our customers’ support, we donated $9,054 to C-A-SPCA in January 2021 through our 2020 Gifts That Give Back program. For each one of our wildly popular Animal Body Hug Pillows sold October-December of 2020, we pledged to donate $1 to
C-ASPCA.


The average cost of care for one animal
per day is $25. Our recent donation can help provide a year’s worth of care, helping many animals find loving, permanent homes.
