We bought 3 of these for Christmas gifts, but ended up keeping one for ourselves. It's fun to watch the smoke, but my husband's not a huge fan of the incense smell. I loved it, however! Even if you don't light the incense, it's a great decoration. We kept it on the fireplace mantel for the Christmas Season and it was a definite focal point. The Santa has a lot more detail than the snowman (we bought two of those).

I was very disappointed when I received the santa. It did not appear as nice as pictured. The quality is not very good - the beard is uneven and the base is lopsided. I thought it was made in Germany, but a sticker on the bottom says it is made in China.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This was a gift for my daughter. She said it smokes better than a similar item she bought at a much higher price. The only complaint I have was, the incense sticks were not available. As she lives in a metropolitan area, she is able to buy them.
