I bought this to hang on the side of a wall for feeding the squirrels sunflower seeds. And they do love it, so it has been a big success. A Bluejay has even ventured in and helped himself when it was unoccupied. It reduces the amount of hulls that fall to the ground; however, this thing is difficult to empty out. The seeds, peanuts, etc., can be added thru a large hole in the top, which works great. I had envisioned that the bottom would have a hinge to open, by swinging downward, so that empty shells could be easily thrown away; however, that is not the case. The only way to empty this out is to take it down off the fence and shake the debris out thru the side & top holes. Since it was designed to be permanently mounted, we had to buy different hardware and hang it so that it could be removed.
