Project FeederWatch is a continent-wide survey of bird species that visit feeders in winter. With the help of more than 15,000 "citizen scientists" who are currently participating, FeederWatch is documenting and interpreting North American feeder bird population changes. We also educate people about bird feeding.
Participating in Project FeederWatch is easy and fun for people of all ages, birding skill levels, and backgrounds. From November through April, FeederWatchers periodically count the numbers and kinds of birds that visit their feeders. They send their observations to researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, using either paper forms or the Internet.
In addition to the Instruction Booklet, FeederWatchers receive:
Handbook full of science-based recommendations for attracting and feeding birds
Subscription to Birdscope newsletter sharing the latest findings
Colorful wall calendar
Bird identification poster
Access to FeederWatch Listserv
Password Access to the FeederWatch data entry site
