This looked very good compared to some other stores. I will be returning this immediately. It was very disappointing starting with opening the package. First I noticed it looked like wrought iron, but is just cold rolled metal painted black. You can see ugly welds everywhere, too. So, obviously it is not as strong as wrought iron. In fact, in person it looks and feels very cheap like you might expect from several large box stores. I wanted to assemble it to see if would be sturdier once assembled. Well, my hopes were dashed when the included wrench fit the bolts so sloppily it stripped 3 of them out before even getting much more than finger-tight. So, you can't tighten the bolts enough to even get the pieces to stay tightly unless you use some vice-grip pliers, which would probably ruin the paint. All of this would probably be acceptable for a third to a quarter of the price. If you are looking for a real strong wrought iron log rack, look elsewhere. If you don't care about paying top dollar for a feeble, spray-painted rack, I guess this is for you...

Wood Rack with Tools
from New Jersey
About Me High-end Shopper
Comments about Plowhearth Log Bin With Fireplace Tools:
Sturdy -- no more going outside for wood for a night's fire. This keeps all you need at your fingertips! Great design, strong enough to hold a ggod deal of wood. Just make sure your wood is about 18" long or it won't fit in the wood cradling handles.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Looks nice,compact,tools subpar
By Value with Class shopper
from SE CT
We don't regret the purchase because it fits perfectly on our hearth, which is not a large one,and we like the functional design with separate sections for wood and kindling or newspaper. Also,it looks nice and the powder-coated finish on ours is much better than what other reviewers have commented. But the tools are cheap;the shovel fell of the handle within a week of use (very flimsy weld) and the broom loses bristles almost every time it's used. We replaced the tools, which adds to the cost. Still,if you need a compact unit, this is a good option because we did not find any other sets to fit in a compact space, and it looks good.

COULD NOT ASSEMBLE LOG BIN DUE TO DEFECT
from NEW YORK CITY
Gave the log bin to son as gift. Put together on X-mas day but alas, a piece was defective. The tray/shelf at bottom of bin had holes that were not bored properly causing screws to strip when trying to screw them in. They would not screw in. Very frustrating. Don't understand how simply boring holes was not done accurately and that a simple visual check would have revealed the defect. Called yesterday and new parts are being sent. Disappointing that original piece was defective. Awaiting new pieces.

One of the tools arrived broken and all of the zip ties that were being used in the package were already cut when the package was opened. Very disappointed. This was a Christmas gift.

Excellent for the price!
We have a well used wood stove; things are too messy with paper, kindling, tools, ash buckets...so I started shopping. I like to buy american and sturdy products. HOwEVER in this economy, I cannot bring myself to spend 300+$ on a lovely crafted wrought iron fireside set. If I had a 500K log home I would probably go the more spendy route. I have a cute little 1000 sq ft home with oak floors and gorgeous views. the gentleman who gripped about the quality of this product I think did not do his homework to know the price difference for the quality he was hoping for or was from "the great generation" born on the 30's and expected high quality for 100$. the holes were miss drilled so 2 of the screws would not hold, however there were 2 additional metal brackets (not listed on the instructions) that fixed the problem. I think If you go at this project with the mindset that it will do a great job, though it is not perfectly straight and does not feel solid, you should be very happy with your purchase:)

Quality is good; great for a small area.
Efficient Log Bin
from Richland, Michigan
The log bin with tools does the job of holding wood and the fireplace tools without taking up a lot of space and becoming an eyesore in the decor of the room. It looks very neat and adds to the style of a room. Along with looking great it holds a fair amount of wood along with the tools and all the necessary items to build and maintain a fire while keeping all the mess of a fireplace contained in one small area.

Size matters. Doesn't overwhelm the fireplace.
Works for us
By Jane at the Lakehouse
from Lac du Flambeau, WI
My husband had some difficulty assembling this product, due to dried paint in the bolt holes. But it has worked fine for us since then. It stands solidly, holds plenty of wood for several hours in our wood stove, and I really like the poker. (We haven't used all the tools yet.)

I was able to assemble in 10 minutes and loaded it with logs, kindling and matches and had it hearthside. Tools seem of decent, usable quality. Keeps wood and related neat and tidy.
Stay Away from this one
from Somerset, MA
Got this one as a gift and I must say that if I learned anything from buying cheap [*] products this is a lesson in the art. Going to be returned at once. Too small for any real usefulness and the shovel is loose out of the box. Try and stick to american made wrought iron not thin steel. Oh Well

Perfect fit if you do not need to keep a huge amount of wood near your fireplace. Holds enough wood to last a few days.Utensils and rack are very attractive.
Purchased as a gift
I bought this for my daughter, who has limited space for all the stuff you seem to accumulate when you heat with wood. She seems to be very happy with it.

Compact, functional, and sturdy
from South Portland, Maine
This is a compact log rack well suited to its use as a back up indoor wood supply rack for our wood burning insert. We burn wood in our downstairs family room when the temperatures are truly low or during a power outage. This winter the rack has been refilled innumerable times! The tools are lightweight, but sturdy enough to handle a good sized log. This was a great gift from my mom.

Nice looking and useful
By Cathy and John

This log bin fits in a small space next to our wood stove, looks great, and holds a lot of logs. The logs must be long enough to span the supports. The tools are OK. The broom is purely decorative. Overall we're really happy with it.
I need to return this defective product
from El Granada, CA
We bought this last year but have not yet used it (we need to return it) because it is defective. One of the holes on the bottom plate through which the bolts go was incorrectly machined and does not line up with its matching hole on the frame. This was very disappointing.

I bought this as a Christmas gift and the recipients love it! They said it is now their favorite thing in the family room.
Serves a Larger Purpose
from Marylander in WV
Ordered it because I could not find a stand that would support my old and reliable fire tools, which did not have loops for hanging. It works fine, is far more attractive, but is a bit larger than I wanted in the space. The new tools are good too, but I'm used to the old ones and will use them until they wear out. You might be surprised at how many people could be interested in a new stand for old, reliable tools if you offered a 6-8" square version with tools offered separately. [...]

My husband has been piling up wood and newspapers next to our wood stove for the last couple of years. He wanted to find something to hold the wood and newspapers this year. He saw this in your catalog and was impressed with it. It took him minimal time to assemble it. He and I have been very happy with how it looks and functions.
You get what you pay for... maybe less
By unsatisfied customer
Stand will be used mostly for decoration, tools are very flimsy and not useful. Construction is poor with mostly tack welds that appear they will break [...]Wood rack could be redesigned with middle support because it will not even hold companies kindling - "fat wood". For the price atleast expect it to arrive complete in one piece.
Compact size not for daily use
from Catskill Mtns, NY
I liked the way it looked and the way the components are organized..very practical. But after using it a short while one of the screws came out and the hole was too big to put the screw back in. I was able to prevent a return by removing the log holders and just piled up the wood from the bottom (eliminating the area to store paper or starter sticks). We prefer our old set of tools as the handles on these are a bit short. Not exactly what I planned but at least I can store wood in it and avoid sending it back.
Compact and looks good
from Rocky Hill, CT
I needed to reduce the clutter around the fireplace and this design replaced a separate log bin, basket for kindling and a tool holder. It holds everything needed to get a fire started and looks good! Price is right as well.
from Sacramento, CA
I was excited to get this because I usually like all of my Plow and Hearth purchases. It was easy to put together, but when I stood it up, it wobbled. At first I thought that it was the floor surface, but I figured out that the legs were uneven. I had to put some plastic stripping under one of the legs to make it stand up straight. It is not very well made.
Nice for the price!
This is a perfect piece if you are looking for something that offers both the tools and holds wood.
from Eureka Springs, Arkansas
This is so useful and everything is in one compact spot and takes up little space! Everything I have ever purchased from Plow and Hearth has been first class. I never have to worry about the quality of their products!
