King Bed Complete with Frame
$99.95 - $449.95
The Sylvania Iron Bed juxtaposes flourishing scroll work and straight spindles for a lovely and special look. The top of the headboard and footboard are visually enticing as iron tubing of differing diameters loop and scroll across the breadth. Adding to the visual excitement, the round scrolls become flat at each post, becoming a round form again as they join the spindles. The luscious French roast finish is a three step process of applying a brushed gold coat over black creating a deep layered color. Ball finials add a finishing element to the modern style of this bed. This bed requires the use of a box spring in addition to a mattress.

This complete bed includes all you need: headboard, footboard and rails. Top it with an optional canopy for even more style. Durable, maintenance-free metal frame is presented in a three-step finish of black layered with gold and a clear topcoat. A great complement to any décor, from art deco to traditional.

• Powder-coated frame
• Metal construction
• French Roast finish
• Complete bed includes headboard, footboard, and rails

just what I wanted
Comments about Product:
It was time for a change from the big clunky old bed that took up the whole room and this was a great choice. Ordered the king bed w/frame and it is really beautiful. Easy to put together and transformed the room. Very happy with the purchase.

Lovely Headboard
Comments about Product:
I bought the queen headboard only and could not be happier. I was concerned about shipping a piece like this but it was not a problem at all. Assembled nicely and fit my own bed frame great. Perfect for creating an old fashion look without the antique price. Price cant be beat. Thank you Plow and Hearth for a great product.

Sylvania Iron Bed is Perfect
Comments about Product:
I am so happy I bought this bed several months ago! I'd looked for years for the right one, and this one was worth the wait. I bought the complete bed along with the canopy set. I'd been concerned Iron beds might creak and make noise--it doesn't! It's sturdy, has a lovely finish that goes well with my wooden bedroom chests and other pieces, and was fairly easy to put together. I haven't used the canopy set yet--I'm still thrilled with using it as a 4-poster, but love having that option available for whenever I do want to use it. I can't say enough about this bed--it's even better than it looks in the graphic of it, and I'm completely delighted with it!

Great bed frame
Comments about Product:
This bedframe looks great and is very sturdy. We looked at other frames (all two to three times the price) however selected this one as we liked the style. Very easy to assemble.

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
