Great Piece!
Comments about Product:
This is a perfect classic cabinet to hold all our stemless wine glasses. It tends to be a little unstable but you learn to open it carefully and it is fine. I absolutely love this small piece!

Gets worse with age
Comments about Product:
I rated this a few months back after I received it and I was somewhat disappointed. Now I really feel I wasted all my money. I had to put it in the garage because the paint odor inside just will not go away. Now the knots and wood design are coming through in a yellowish color through the antique white-not attractive at all. Appears no sealing coat was used. I guess this will be an expensive garage piece.

Nice Cabinet, but took forever to get
Comments about Product:
I use the jelly cabinet to hold my cookbooks so my cabinet is free to use for other things. It fits nicely in a space too small for most applications.

Somewhat Disappointed
Comments about Product:
Light weight, tips when opening the door; canned goods gives it weight to stop the tipping. The paint odor was too strong-kept outside on porch for over a week (notice in packing about odor). The hinges were painted and are 50% peeled off within 2 weeks, would of been nice if they wouldn't of sprayed them with the wood. 18w x45h x12d is the actual storage size;this is more limiting then I thought. For my first on-line furniture experience, I did not feel I did too badly since not too much money; I do not feel I got my moneys worth, other than supporting jobs in America[...]

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
