This stunning solid pewter ornament, finely detailed front and back, does more than simply look beautiful on your tree. For each one sold, a tree will be planted at a site around the world where reforestation is needed. The Canadian company that casts our heirloom-quality ornaments has exceeded its goal by planting over two million trees.
Each year we bring you several exquisitely crafted new designs to add to your collection. Give a different Plant-A-Tree ornament each year to friends and family - they'll appreciate both the gift and your environmentally thoughtful gesture. Comes with satin hanging cord.
In addition to the tree that will be planted for each ornament you purchase, Plow & Hearth is donating one seedling to the National Forest Foundation each time you place an order.

Comments about Product: Purchased for my granddaughter for Christmas because she has & loves her pygmy hedgehogs. I feel she will hang it in her room instead of the Christmas tree. It is so detailed and unique... extremely well constructed! I purchased one for myself, as well, being I too have a pygmy hedgehog that she gifted me from her first litter. Finding unique hedgehog gifts that are so authentic is rare...absolutely love this and I'm anxious to see her reaction!! Thank you :-)

Comments about Product: This is a gift for my daughter-in-law who has a pet hedgehog. It is a cute ornament and the pewter will show up on the tree. I really like the ornament and I think she will too. I also like that a tree will be planted for each ornament purchased. That's one reason I chose the pewter hedgehog ornament rather than the wooden one.

Comments about Product: This was one of my Christmas gifts to my daughter, mostly as a joke. She had sent me a hedgehog ornament the year before, and now the hedgehog wars are on!
It was very attractive and rich looking and perfect for her tree which she decorates with crystal and silver tone ornaments. Also, the fact that the purchase helped support a Green Project was appropriate because most of my gifts were in a green theme last year.
Comments about Product: Gave as a holiday gift, and was really pleased that[...] Especially like that it is a meaningful gift b/c of the plant a tree element. I also thought it was great to find a hedgehog ornament. You don't find those everyday!
Comments about Product: I bought many of the pewter ornaments offered at Plow and Hearth, but this one was absolutely the cutest! The theme for our Christmas Eve dinner was "A Woodland Christmas" and these charming ornaments made perfect party favors. They were all a big hit!
Comments about Product: I ordered three different designs, and they were all just perfect, and at a great price - especially considering that a portion of the proceeds go toward reforestation - I love that! They made great gifts, and I was excited to receive one from my niece as a gift, too.[...]

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
