The metal turtle umbrella base has not only practical applications, but adds a quirky touch of style to our patio. Strikingly similar to a genuine turtle, the metal composition has some sharp edges, but because it sits center and beneath the table, it doesn't pose a real problem.

Comments about Plowhearth Turtle Umbrella Holder:
Even full of sand will not hold even small umbrella upright. Cute as a strictly decorative piece.

About Me High-end Shopper
The construction is light sheet metal and there isn't any way it can be filled with sand. The only opening is where the pole would go that won't hold enough sand to weight it down. Can't be used any where the wind blows. Should have returned but didn't want to spend more money on return shipment will try to use indoors. Is a disappointment to say the least.
rusted within 2 months

We have this on our deck. It is very nice looking. But after a month or two it started rusting. By the end of summer it was a mess.

I loved this product. It was so adorable! However it rusted in a couple months. For the price I expcected more durabilty.
Toby!! I like that....reviewer
from Auberry, Ca 3700 ft
Well, I had read the review about the turtle not working too good as an umbrella holder but got him anyway....what a cuttie...So we filled him with sand and put him under a table with an umbrella hole in it. He did fine, but he is so cute and exceptional and we hardly noticed him all summer. Next year "Toby" will have the duty of showman, without an umbrella....and he has gone through a winter of freezing temps with no finish problems on the outside....just don't let him get full of water.

Turtle Umbrella Stand - Fantastic!
By Happy with My Turtle
from Long Island, New York
I bought this stand for its originallity and looks. It's beautiful and the kids love it too! It's very strong, but lightweight. It withstands high winds and all kinds of weather. I would recommend this product very highly.

When I ordered the Turtle I planned on using it as intended - to hold an umbrella. However, it is sooo pretty I hate to have it just sit around when not holding the umbrella and everyone who saw Toby thought he was the most beautiful turtle on the planet. Soooo, Toby sits in the solarium holding flowers when off duty and seems quite happy with all the attention he gets. I think we have seen him blush when the ladies gush over him.

Can't fill with enough sand and still use the umbrella holder that holds the post. The umbrella post moves in the sand and falls over.
He wont win the race!!!

PRODUCT NOT AS EXPECTED. NOT PB QUALITY
from Rancho Santa Fe, CA
I ordered this to hold an umbrella for a table I already owned. Before it arrived, my son gave me a holder for the umbrella so I used it for decoration. I will buy an additional umbrella for the hummingbird table I purchased from Plow and Earth and the turtle will then be used as designed. I think it's attractive and uncommon.

Myrtle sits on my patio with artificial greens in place of the umbrella. She will sit on my hearth this winter as she is adorable and my friends love her, she can also hold a candle, etc. use your imagination. She always brings a smile.Thank you once again for the great Plow and Hearth quality.

Cute as it is, still very functional.
Cute but little umbrella support
from San Diego, CA
The sales associate said to fill it with sand and put pole into the hole on top of turtle container filled with sand. We did that. The holder has a single narrow retainer for the umbrella which is insufficient to hold the umbrella upright and will tip in wind. It is cute but we did not buy it for its patio art value. We will replace it with a traditional stand and use the turtle as a deco on the patio.
Turle Unbrella Holder
from Bardstown KY
I wish it had been a bit smaller and heavier, but it is as described and does the job and is eye-catching, especially compared to typical round or square holders. It just barely fit under a bistro table and looks a little crowed, but I'm keeping it.

Pretty, but not effective
By Landscape Queen

Product did not come with instructions. It is too light to hold an umbrella. [...]. You are to put sand inside to weigh it down. However, a wind knocked it over and broke my glass table top.

Cute but not practical
By Patio Dwellers
from Kernersville, NC
Received the Turtle Umbrella stand and was immediatly interested in the look of it. Although cute, did not feel it had the construction strength needed for long term use under an outside table with umbrella. It was soddered in many places but I was concerned for the amount of money it cost that it would rust. I lived with it for a week or so and decided to return the umbrella stand soley based on the durability issue.
Overpriced for its Quality
from New York
I found this product a bit overpriced for its quality. I also worried that it would not hold up long in its intended use. Great Idea, poorly executed. I sent it back
Whimsical & Practical
