Installed four strings over the backyard deck in a grid pattern. The gentle glow allows you to see who's there, not enough to read (not the intent) and strong enough to find YOUR drink. There is a slight difference between the illumination strength of the strings. Three are about the same, one is slightly weaker. That one lasts ALL night. Read the other users comments on handling while unpacking and placing. We had no problems with breakage.

Bought two strings, and hung them over our pond. They give a soft mood light that looks very nice reflecting off of the water.Understand that these are soft mood lights, you won't be reading with them; however, with just a bit of sun, they stay on all night long.Watch and believe other reviews about the fragile nature of the globes, they break if you look at them the wrong way. If you can, leave the bubble wrap on the globes until they are strung. I broke two of the globes before figuring that one out, and I'm a very careful person.Secondly, the lights have two settings, full on or flashing mode. On both units the flashing mode does not work. However, since I'm not a fan of "flashing" mode, that isn't a deal breaker for me.In addition, when you remove them from the box, be very careful or you'll wind up with a tangled mess that's almost impossible to straighten out. Work slowly, and you should be okay. One more thing, considering how absolutely fragile these things are, I can't really see how you could "easily" take them down and store them without damaging some of the globes. With all that said, now that they are up, I do like them, and it's enjoyable to sit outside in the evening and relax with these globe lights creating a soft calming mood.My three-star rating is due mostly to the flashing mode not working (if they say it works; it should work), And how easily the cords tangled when taking out of the box.

Beautiful but Fragile

Comments about Plowhearth Globe Solar String Lights:
These are really so beautiful but the globes break so easily that they are very hard to handle and arrange. Count on breaking a bulb or two when you put them up and finding one or two broken later on. I loved them, though, and kept them up until a bird or squirrel clipped the wires. I actually rewired them but the culprit came back and then I gave up. So beautiful, give it a try but handle with care!

These lights have been up for two years on our pergola. While a couple of them have water in them (and they are exposed to all the wind and rain we get) they still perform beautifully. I wasn't looking for lights to read by, simply lights to create a gentle and peaceful atmosphere and they certainly do that. I would heartily recommend these.

Little glowing lights
from New Washington, OH
We strung two sets of these lights on our pergola on the back patio. They weren't too hard to put up. And they are very handy that they turn on when it gets dark. They're not very bright - but they have a nice glow to them. We like them.

I installed these lights around our big umbrella over the patio table. They look good unlit and when plugged into AC(transformed to 3v);the solar charged 1.2v aa battery only gives the lights a faint glow. The people who made this know it was under-powered and only retro-fitted the lights to get on the "Solar"bandwagon. So I will be fabricating a 3v solar rechargeable power source.

Did not last a week

Cannot believe these are sold as outdoor lights. Filled with water after a light rain shower and now will not light. Do not buy these lights for outdoor use. Also, came home one day to find one shattered. Why? Who knows.

nice decorative lighting
These lights are only intended to be dim mood/decorative lighting, not something bright enough to read by. They are very pretty and allow enough light to see company while sitting on the deck at night without attracting bugs. During the day the glass has subltle colors when hit by sunlight which is also pretty. I would suggest to leave bubble wrap on the bulbs until after they are hung up, because the glass is thin and breaks eaily if the bulbs hit each other while hanging. I hung mine last spring and left them out all winter and they sill work great,(I live in Michigan). They do tend to collect a small pool of water from condensation inside the bulb, but this has not affected their performance. I had a crazy squirrel decide to chew through the wiring about mid string and the lights before the break point still work, I am going to try and wire the other half back together. I have had no problems with the solar panel, you just have to make sure the on/off switch in on or they will not charge. I only gave 4 stars because the bulbs are so fragile and I broke a few while hanging them up,even though I was being careful, that's why I think the bubble wrap should stay on until you are done. Although the glass broke the bulbs still light up, the actual light is self contained inside the glass ball.

Nice idea but not really effective

I was disappointed in this product, there was very little illumination from the lights. I ended up returning the product.

filled with water during first rain. One broke. Very fragile.

When I was hanging the bulbs, a couple broke when contacting another. the wind blowing caused more breakage. No replacement. The solor did not give enough power and the adaptor was labeled for indoor use only.
These were a big disappointment.
from Seattle, WA
The solar part didn't work. They only worked plugged in, and the distance from the lights to the plug in was tiny---a few inches. The whole idea was to have solar lights, but the solar cell didn't work. I do NOT recommend buying these. Overpriced, also.

We bought 2 strands for our backyard deck. While hanging them it was impossible not break a few bulbs because they are so fragile and one of the strands the solar light panel doesn't work so to light them we have to plug them into an electrical outlet.
A little disappointed
By Lightning Bug
I'm disappointed that it does not provide a well lite area. I still have to use the electrical outdoor lights. I also wish it was a warmer colored light; too white.

I LOVE these lights!
from Lakewood CA
These lights are really amazing. I have several stings. Unfortunately, some of the globes broke on one string, they are fragile and several were not glued on properly - so check them carefully before you hang them.[...]Im a bit fearful that more will break and there is no way to replace the individual bulbs so keep them away from kids and pets!
Wish the color wasn't blue.
from Minneapolis, MN
They look good in the daytime when they are not lit - like they are full of potential. Their blue color, and absolute failure at casting any illumination in the dark makes them a disappointment.
Perfect for us
from Mountain View, CA
Got them in June, hung these from an upper deck that faces east. In other words, they are getting a long solar charge. I have the solar collector facing south, let it charge one day, then hung the lights. Right now (in July), the lights are *still* on in the morning when the sun comes up. I have not noticed them being fragile so won't comment on that. Hasn't been an issue for us. I will say that the light is not very bright. If you've never used LEDs and are expecting light like you'd get from a string of Xmas lights, you will be disappointed. The light is subtle, decorative, but, for us, lovely and soft.
Nice looking, but not very bright.
from Denver, CO
We hung these lights up in our garden area. They are not very bright, but they do provide a nice ambiance. They are very fragile. Two of the bulbs were broken when we took them out of the box.
Great Wedding Gift
By The entertainer

I gave this product to a wedding couple who had just about everything EXCEPT for their outdoor area. They had just completed their landscaping and this made a perfect gift for enteraining at night on their covered deck. I like that you can use with the solar power or from an electric power source.
love these lights
from los angles ca
they put off more light than I thought they would, makes great mood lighting on our deck, can see everyone in nice soft lighting. love them!
They work well and look nice, BUT!
They are very fragile; I dropped one about six inches off the table taking them out of the box and broke one of the globes. The light still works but the globe is gone.
from Port Jefferson, NY
I have decorative string lights around the perimeter of my deck and thought it would be nice to replace them with a a solar version. I found these lights to be too dim and so returned them.
Says it solar energy , but it wasn't...
from Los Angeles
Very disappointed in the solar capabilities.... as this did not work at all. We tried various things to create success... different positions for the solar panel.... different times of days... different intensities of sunlight. I did not send it back, because it wasn't worth the trouble and they do work with electrical hookup. The primary draw for this product was the solar energy design.
Looks and functions well, but.......
