Comments about Product: We have this lovely bench on our front porch along with one of P&H's bench cushions. It looks great, is comfortable and provides extra seating for guests and others including ourselves. My husband and I put it together in less than an hour and we have enjoyed it all summer. Will store it inside over the cold weather season.
Comments about Product: I purchased this beautiful bench last summer, but after a few months the handles rusted. I returned the bench, but I wish I didn't have to, because I really liked the design. I have similar deck furniture made out of aluminum that I purchased in 1999,; it has maintained it's beauty and has been rust free. Perhaps P&H can build this out of solid aluminum or a strong aluminum alloy.
Comments about Product: The bench quickly developed rust that I had to sand off, then use naval jelly to get most of it off. Then we spray painted with rustoleum and all that was work we had not expected. We recommend you rust proof the bench right after assembly to protect from air moisture. We recently ordered a resin bench from Plow and Hearth instead of the metal bench. Too much work.
Comments about Product: Haven't had it long enough to see how it holds up. It is on a covered porch right now but did have plans to put it near the fire pit which would put it out in the weather. Will know more as time goes on.
Comments about Product: It's still barely out of the box so I can't speak to durability, but it was quick to put together and looks really great. It's not something I'd want to sit on for hours, but it's plenty comfortable enough.
Comments about Product: Ordered this bench to replace one that was damaged when a tree branch fell on it, destroying the wooden slats. Hoping that this bench will withstand any falling tree branches, as there are no wooden pieces on it. Nice design and I look forward to sitting on it when the weather warms up.
Comments about Product: Solid metal bench for a good value and price. I have one very similar to this one which I purchased from P & H (has a slightly different backrest design) which I use in full sun near our barn.
Difficult to find a good quality metal bench for a reasonable price. This is the one. Sturdy and durable.
Comments about Product: It is too soon to tell if the winter weather will take a toll. I assembled it as soon as it arrived and put it on the deck until Spring. In early Spring it will be transferred to my garden. It will look so much better than the stark white plastic one that is there now. I wanted it to blend with the landscape and still be functional. This will do just that I believe.
Comments about Product: This bench is a great size for a small porch. I spent approximately 30 min. assembling the bench. It fits perfectly in its intended space on our front porch. Wonderful value for the quality.
Comments about Product: I put this bench together alone since my husband was out of town. It took approximately 30 minutes, but I took my time. For me, the toughest part of this bench 'experience' was getting the box inside the house...not because of size but due to the weight. It wasn't overwhelmingly heavy but a little bit awkward to maneuver. All worth it, though, because the bench is perfect for our front porch entryway. I don't think I could have found a better fit at a better price.
Comments about Product: I purchased two of these one year ago for firepit seating and just received a third bench to add to the seating configuration. The first two have stood up well against weather and time. My guests love them as much as I do and so adding a third to the firepit seating arrangement was just a logical thing to do.
They are all beautiful and are the perfect addition to any home, yard, patio, or porch. Elegant design. Sturdy construction. I had this one assembled and positioned after just 15 minutes. Love it!!
Comments about Product: We will be using this bench in a play area for our neighborhood association. We needed a comfortable place for adults to sit while watching their young children play. We are very pleased with the comfort, attractive design and easy to care for finish.
Comments about Product: This was very easy to assemble. Once I put it together my husband and I carried it to a nice spot in our yard by one of our gardens. We really love this bench and recommend it !!
Comments about Product: A great bench for the price. Made of tubular metal which should last a number of years. Attractive design on the back. This rustic looking bench will go well in our front yard where we planned to but it.
Comments about Product: Looks good and easy to put together.. if you read the directions. As a guy I usually glance at the directions and then proceed. I had the bench all together when my wife noticed that I had the seat upside down. OOPS.... directions not real clear. Now that its together correctly it looks great on the deck.
Comments about Product: Easy assembly - 15 minutes. Should last for years. Steel can be refinished for many years - just scrape, sand, and spray paint any color you desire. Excellent buy for under $100.
Comments about Product: This bench is up to your standards. Excellent price, very attractive easy to assemble and comfortable. We added 2 all weather pillows and have it sitting on the front porch of a house we hope to sell. It looks great.
Comments about Product: This garden bench was very easy to assemble by myself. I used a chair to hold up one end of the seat while I bolted together the other side.
It looks great in my yard under my oak trees.
Comments about Product: I read one review that said the paint on the back was poorly done. FYI: it is a "distressed" finish, intended to look that way, and I see no problem with it. The back is a little too upright, the seat too shallow---however, a seat pad helps, and it doesn't bother me.
Comments about Product: This bench has been outside for 5 months.
During that time we have had to refinish it twice due to rust and corrosion. We have repainted it with outdoor paint but the rust keeps eating through the paint. I have been deceived in that this bench was advertised as quality. Yes, it is beautiful.
It fits the description of style but no substance.
I am thinking of putting it in the trash.
Comments about Product: I liked the bench but my husband didn't because it was uncomfortable. I did agree with him that the seat depth was too short. That was what made it uncomfortable. Otherwise it was easy to assemble, attractive and seemed sturdy.
Comments about Product: I've only had this bench for a month or so, so I can't say how it will wear over time - but it's sturdy, attractive, of a good weight, and a pleasure to sit on on our front porch. Assembly was quick and easy, with no tools required.
Comments about Product: The bench was easy to assemble and I was surprised at how sturdy it was. It blends in with the trees in the yard so it is practical and not all that noticeable. Definitely a bargain!
Comments about Product: Pros: Very quick shipping, assembled in 15 mins, looks more expensive than it is (especially from far away), good for decorative porch.
Cons: The box arrived in shreds and we are lucky that the product was not damaged. This is a problem in previous reviews and not sure why this hadn't been remedied. Also, the overall quality is questionable. I would feel better about a budget-friendly USA-made option.
Comments about Product: This bench has a lovely design. It's an excellent value for the price (and I shopped around several sites). It was easy to assemble and of good quality. I'm sure it will last many years. It has versatile uses . . . from porch to lawn.
Comments about Product: We didn't expect too much in the way of quality, as it was so inexpensive ([$] for a bench?) However, it appears to be strong and well made, and is very attractive, and perfectly sized.
Comments about Product: We love our new Scrollwork Bench. It was easy to assemble and looks beautiful near our front door. We look forward to using it for many years to come.
Thanks for offering such a value for a quality product!
Comments about Product: arrived in damaged carton but ok; easy to assemble; cast is terrible! Rough edges around entire design. Paint is awful...not fully covered with visible brush strokes. Will certainly rust; not comfortable after 5-10 minutes. Pretty to look at. Going to see how much return shipping will cost! Thought Plow & hearth would have better quality.
Comments about Product: I purchased two benches to use for fire-pit seating in my backyard. The design has visual appeal and is also practical in its durability and stability. I love the finish, as it matches the ironwork on my fire-pit. Add cushions to the benches and you have a terrific economical seating arrangement for whatever use you have in mind. The included instructions, assembly tools, and hardware made this very simple to assemble. I had them both assembled and placed by the fire-pit in a 40 minute timeframe, start to finish.
Comments about Product: We put this bench in a corner in our garden. It took literally 15 minutes to assemble. It is built well so that I am not afraid my small children will destroy it, but is lightweight enough that it can be easily moved if needed.
Comments about Product: This bench looks great in my yard. The only negative was that it was packaged poorly for delivery. My first bench had to be sent back because the flimsy carton got crushed. My second bench came, the carton was damaged in the corner only, so I kept the bench and it was fine.
Comments about Product: We were surprised at the ease with which this bench assembled. it has an old world charm and works great in our patio. It's also a heavier metal than expected (for the money). All in all...a good product.
Comments about Product: I love the way this bench looks. However it arrived damaged. Packaging is too lightweight. Major dent in leg. Customer service was great and addressed the issue immediately with good results. The bench will rust. Mine started rusting within several months. I am going to repaint it in hopes of taking care of this issue. It is a good buy for what you get. Very easy to assemble.
Comments about Product: This bench looks exactly like it does in the catalog. I like the metal and it looks great in our garden setting. The problem with the way it sits is that it doesn't have much depth and sits quite upright so it's not going to be comfortable for anyone over 5 feet tall!
Comments about Product: The product was priced right and attractive, but a very disappointed with the regards to water accumulating inside the screw ho;es thus creating rust on deck and concrete. You have to keep covered when not in use! I bought two: one for daughter and one for self!
Comments about Product: We purchased 5 benches for the common area in our private community. Everyone like them alot. They look better than more expensive benches we priced from other companies. Our landscaping contractor also appreciates that they are not heavy and can easily be moved when mowing our grass.
Comments about Product: we purchased this to use on our front porch that faces a busy street. only gave it 3 stars because it's "fine" and a good value for the [$], really, but it is [...] quality and from the catalog description, i was expecting more (though, really for the price, i should not have been surprised). it is working out fine for our needs.

This bench is strong as well pretty!
Comments about Product: This bench is very strong as well as attractive.
It does need to be assembled but that is okay because it is easy to do & takes no time!
Can be used anywhere. Great addition to any home.
Comments about Product: I LOVE THE DESIGN AND THE PRICE AND THOUGHT METAL WOULD BE LESS MAINTENANCE THAN OUR PREVIOUS WOODEN BENCH. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF US ASSEMBLING AND PUTTING OUTSIDE, IT BEGAN TO SHOW SIGNS OF RUSTING. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED. MY HUSBAND ENDED UP PUTTING A COUPLE COATS OF RUSTOLEUM ON THE BENCH. LOOKING BETTER. HOPE IT WORKS.
Comments about Product: We loved the price point and the look for our garden. It can serve many uses and we like everything about it except for comfort. The only drawback for us is that we are both tall and the bench is closer to the ground than most garden benches. If you are less than 5'5 in height and of medium frame it will probably be comfortable. I would not buy it expecting to sit on it for a long time if you are tall. The height and depth of the seat are not adequate for comfort for tall folks for very long. We love everything else about it and most especially we have been completely happy with everything we buy from Plow and Hearth and would highly recommend their products for quality, performance, and reliability.
Comments about Product: This is a great bench for the money. My only complaint is that it is much lighter than you would think and tends to blow over in very strong winds. It has blown on to my flowers in the garden several times.
Comments about Product: I purchased 2 benches and one arrived damaged by UPS. Plow & Hearth sent out another one immediately and that one was also damaged. This one wasn't the fault of UPS, it was damaged before packaging. Plow and Hearth sent out another one and had the two damaged ones picked up. The service of Plow and Hearth was excellent. I love my benches.
Comments about Product: Product is on grass where I can enjoy my waterfall. It is getting hit by sprinklers so the screws are starting to rust. Suggest aluminum screws for this bench but besides that it is really beautiful, sturdy and well built for the price.
Comments about Product: I was looking for a bench for my perennial and vegetable garden - someplace to rest and enjoy the flowers. The area is visible from the kitchen window and the bench adds a nice focal point. It was easy to put together and is sturdy and lightweight - just what I was looking for!
Comments about Product: This sits on my front porch with two red cushions to offset the red front door......looks very classy. I sprayed it black...it may look black in the catalog, but when it came it was dark bronze.......it's great.
Comments about Product: I agree with most of the comments. These benches are great for the price! I needed cushions for them and took a chance on ordering the cushions separately even though no cushions were specifically identified to fit this bench. I selected the bench cushions that were slightly shorter than the length of the bench (48", I think) and they fit perfectly because of the way the arm of the bench connects to the seat.
Comments about Product: This was a gift for my husband. He was very happy with it and I was pleased that it looked every bit as nice as the catalog picture. So, I immediately ordered another one. [...]
Comments about Product: I checked and all parts were shipped so I do not think I'll have any problems assembling once Spring has arrived. As the bench design is lovely, I am looking forward to placing it on pavered area in my garden. I was amazed to find this bench offered at a great price.
Comments about Product: Good bench for the price. We had purchased a similar bench elsewhere for about twice the price but it arrived with scratches and damage to the finish. This one had some minor scratches from shipping but they were not as noticeable. We have this bench in the yard. Some areas look like the finish might be a little thin - can't tell if there is a coppery color to the finish in places or if rust is starting to develop...
Comments about Product: We looked a long time to find the perfect bench for the front porch of our brick home. We had found a similar bench at a large garden store for [$]. This was exactly the style we were looking for. It is a beautiful addition to our home. We leave it out all winter too.
Comments about Product: When I received my bench within a few days of ordering it, it included all the pieces it was supposed to, and I put it together in about ten minutes (and I'm a girl). It's lightweight, attractive, rustic, and the price was reasonable. My only concern is that I bought it for an outdoor park, and I don't know how long it will hold up. Time will tell.
Comments about Product: I had to return the fist bench. I could not assemble it because one of the pieces was too big.
I called customer service. They were exceptional. I received a new bench before I sent the old one back. I don't consider this Plow & Hearth's fault since it was a manufacturing problem. But the way they handled it was the best customer service I could have hoped for. The new bench assembled quickly and easily. Love it.
Comments about Product: I purchased this bench to set-up in our covered entry way. It looks wonderful and it's big enough. If I had it under the elements I would worry about the weather proof quality of it though.
Comments about Product: We purchased this bench to provide a sitting area in the corner of our yard. It arrived on time and as promised. It was easy to put together. Because most outdoor furniture that I have seen is made of iron, I thought it would be heavier. This bench is made from aluminum and is very light and strong---it doesn't provide a "solid" or "weighty" feel. Also, the finish is uneven (lighter in some spots, darker in others) with a "painted on" look that adds to its rustic charm. Note that the legs don't have feet -- so they will sink into softer outdoor surfaces such as grass. On hard surfaces such as stone, this is not an issue. Overall, given that this product is much less expensive than other outdoor furniture, I am very happy with it.
Comments about Product: The scrollwork bench is both beautiful and of sturdy construction. I have it placed in my garden and it's a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the flowers. Basically 4 pieces to put together ... all the holes lined up ... only took about 15 minutes. And to make it even better, the value can't be matched. I may just have to order another one!
Comments about Product: I bought four of these benches for our condo back yard. They're beautiful! I can't believe the price. And the design is lovely -- it isn't too country and works well with the more contemporary vibe we've got going. They're not as sturdy as solid iron, of course, but they look substantial, they hold plenty of weight, they're light to carry and move around, and they are easy to assemble. Love em. A total steal.
Comments about Product: I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO PUTTING THESE BENCHES UP....THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT IN YOUR MAGAZINE.....BUT NOT SO BEAUTIFUL TO PUT TOGETHER AS THE SEATS DID NOT MESH WITH THE SIDES.... WD 40 TO THE RESCUE TO PREVENT THEM FROM RUSTING....ALSO THE PAINT JOB WHAT'S WITH THAT???? IS IT TO MAKE THE BENCHES LOOK ANTIQUE? IF SO IT WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE AD....SO AFTER I REPAINT THEM AND WD 40 THEM THEY WILL LOOK MIGHTY SPIFFY ON MY BACK DECK NOW I JUST HAVE TO FIND A BLACK TABLE... IF I CAN'T I'LL JUST KEEP ON PAINTING AFTER I DO THE BENCHES .....HOW ABOUT A RED UMBRELLA AND RED CUSHIONS.
Comments about Product: I bought this for an eventual front courtyard with English and French gardens. Right now it's on a lawn and seems to be holding up. It's what I wanted and the deciding factor was the price -- had seen it elsewhere for more.
Since it's been raining the three weeks I've had it, there's not been much sitting on it but it seems to be more comfortable than any wrought iron piece.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I don't know how it will hold up.
But I do like it and, as of now, would buy it again.
Comments about Product: I am very pleased with this bench. The design is quite tasteful & classical - not your "run of the mill" discount store bench. The price is exceptional for the quality & design. I have seen much lower-quality benches selling for similar prices. Assembly was quite simple. The bench is also quite comfortable for relaxation and entertaining. Overall, A VERY GOOD DEAL!!
Comments about Product: Bench was extremely easy to assemble, it is the color the catalog stated, looks nice, and is very comfortable. Finally a product that was all it was advertised! Am very happy with the product.
Comments about Product: We had a similar bench, but husband backed over it last year while I was mowing. The old bench had bent spots in the frame, and was nothing like the Plow and Hearth replacement we found. It is lightweight and very sturdy. Our family are all large people, we sit comfortably, with great stability. The price was great, and simple to assemble. I love this bench, and wish I had found it a few years ago. Easy clean-up, and smooth soft feel and finish. I would reccomend this to everyone!!!
Comments about Product: I bought this bench mainly for visual purposes (rather than for actual seating) to include with a grouping of potted plants on my front porch. It's a great addition. For the money, I don't think you can beat it.
Comments about Product: I bought this bench to replace a wooden one that didn't hold up very well. The bench was easy to assemble.A great addition to my yard.My neighbors can't believe how comfortable it is.
Comments about Product: Priced very economically, this bench adds to the flavor of my wrought iron trellises and St. Francis statue. It withstands wind, rain, and dust while still looking great on my porch with a bright pillow or two. So easy to assemble but sturdy.
Comments about Product: Easy to assemble and seems well made (in China). We are using one of these out on our property to rest during extended walks. It is heavy enough so that it won't get blown over even in high winds. We decided to get a second one for use around our fire pit. It is comfortable to sit in and attractive. Good value.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
