Comments about Product: It's great to finally have an attractive and useful place to hang our wet mittens and hats. The kids can easily put their things on it, so no need for me to hang anything up. I'm very happy with the quality of construction too.
Comments about Product: I originally bought this mitten warmer to dry our dogs' booties but now we also use it for our snow gloves and hats. We placed it in front of the fireplace and the metal stand drys and warms up everything quickly.
Comments about Product: Good product. Packaging could be stronger, as some of the branches were bent. Carefully, bent them back into place, no problem. Bought as a gift. Looks great next to wood stove and dries mittens and socks quickly.
Comments about Product: This mitten tree is just what we needed to tidy up and dry all the gloves my husband uses in his outdoor work. It looks nice by the woodstove. From other reviews I was concerned about it's "straightness" and packaging, but it was perfect. I am VERY pleased. Haven't seen this anywhere else.
Comments about Product: DISPLAYING MY COLORFUL MITTEN AND GLOVE COLLECTION... SUCH A GREAT ITEM .... I WISH I`D HAD THIS ADORABLE AND FUNCTIONAL MITTEN TREE WHEN OUR CHILDREN WERE LITTLE SNOWMAN MAKERS ! I PLAN TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE FOR MY 2 GRANDDAUGHTERS !
Comments about Product: I bought this as a gift to be used near the wood stove to dry mitten, hats and the like. It is currently being used by my "little" grand children as a coat rack that they can reach.
Comments about Product: Those of us in cold climates will appreciate this for drying gloves/hats. It is durable, not wobbly, already assembled, and doesn't take up a lot of space. Love the rounded tops on each spoke. Come summer, hang up your wet bathing suit!
Comments about Product: Glad I got this, it provides a useful place to store mittens and gloves and to dry them out after being outside. Does exactly what I hoped for, and while I saw other reviewers complaining about it being tippy or crooked, but I haven't noticed that. Once it's covered with mittens, you won't either.
Comments about Product: I know this product will do what it is designed and manufactured for (drying wet mittens and hats) but I was disappointed when, out of the box, it was bent and seems top-heavy. When someone walks by, it's falling over.
It's attractive, though, with or without mittens and I know it will keep me from having mittens strewn all over the fireplace hearth to dry.
Comments about Product: The mitten tree is cute and it looks nice beside my coal stove. For the price I thought it would have been heavier. Only had it for a few weeks. Time will tell how durable it is.
Comments about Product: As others stated, the stand is crooked when set on a flat floor! There is no way to correct this without breaking the weld at the base. I ended up setting it inside a round metal tub I have near the front door for umbrellas. Since the inside circumference of the tub is slightly smaller than that of the stand, I was able to make it "appear" to be standing straight. It's going to storage in the spring the minute the rain lets up. Not worth the money.
Comments about Product: My husband and I look forward to browsing all the catalogs we receive, as does my mother when she visits us. I've only ordered from here a few times but the delivery is always quick, customer service very courteous and the product always meets or exceeds expectations. My only complaint with this last order was the package was delivered with a gigantic hole, exposing the product to possible damage. Thankfully, it was not damaged but now I'm not sure how to repack such an item, as it is a gift (for my mother)! Otherwise, highly recommed ordering from Plow & Hearth!
Comments about Product: It the mitten tree were straight instead of 20 degrees off center, it would look lovely next to the woodstove. I believe it will function just fine, whether straight or crooked. It's bulky and not inexpensive to return so we'll try and fix it. It's frustrating that a quality control process is not in place to prevent such obvious product flaws.
Comments about Product: A great product! My grandson thinks it's 'his' tree to hang his mittens, gloves, and hats on. Now with the grandchildren's help, everyone will be able to locate these items during the winter fun season.
There is one con about the packaging of this product. I would suggest a piece of styrofoam be attached as a 'cap' on the end of each 'branch'. During shipment, one of the branches completely poked through the cardboard box and was bent just below the rounded tip that's at the end of each branch.
Comments about Product: I purchased this item about 3 years ago and although it is not exactly the same as the one pictured, mine has stood the test of time. It easily fits over a floor register and dries even the thickest, wettest gloves fast. Sooo glad I bought it!
Comments about Product: We love this item! This is exactly what what we were looking for. It has worked great for drying out our 4 kids hats and gloves. In the summer I use it to dry our reusable veggie bags. My boys use it as a baseball hat holder and my 2 year old loves to hang her sweatshirts on in it. Would definitely recommend this item to others!
Comments about Product: The shipping was too high and it took too long to recieve it and when I called about it they said just send it back, which would have cost me money, the service department did not handle my complaint when I told her I wanted it by a certain date and it did not arrive. Not happy.
Comments about Product: I love this, it's easy to use, no assembly, move it anywhere, dries mittens/gloves/hats/socks/boot inserts/etc. I bought a second one for our camp. Would recommend this item and this company.
Comments about Product: I was looking for a way to dry mittens and socks without burning them. Plow and Hearth saved the day. We have a very large fireplace and when we hung socks on the fire screen, they become scorched. This solves the problem perfectly. Mittens and socks are dry and warm and ready for the next round of snowplay. It is very well designed - it fits nicely on the hearth and doesn't tip over, even when covered with clothes.
Comments about Product: I am so happy with my new mitten tree! We've used it every day this winter with my kids bringing home their wet mittens and hats from school. The neighborhood kids come over with wet stuff too, so it's been a must have. I wouldn't have survived this winter without it, and I don't know how I ever managed winter before now! I even use it for wet rubber gloves and cleaning rags. It's a good size, not too bulky, I put it near a heater vent for quicker drying... Best winter purchase I've made, EVER!
By Mom of 2 snow playing children! FromPortland, Maine
Love my Mitten Tree!
Comments about Product: I am so happy I bought the Mitten Tree! I remembered last winter's cramming of mittens and hats under the heater and didn't want to go thru that again. The Mitten Tree is perfect; I can fill up all the branches and leave beside the heater (I don't have a fireplace) and they are dry by the next morning. I have received many compliments on it and one friend has already bought it! I love my Mitten Tree!
Comments about Product: The mitten tree has been great this winter. We are dairy farmers and I was looking for a way to dry gloves and boot socks. I put it directly over a floor register and items are dry for the next go around outside. It doesn't take up much space which I like. [...] For me it is a working mitten tree, not just for looks,
Comments about Product: We keep our mitten tree near our fireplace, but you don't need a fireplace for the mitten tree to work. Having young kids in the winter means wet hats, mitten, gloves, and scarfs. Before the mitten tree, these clothing articles would be piled on the floor, seldom drying out completely. The mitten tree allowed for the outside accessories to dry in a timely manner, help to prevent the odd ball glove or mitten from being misplaced, and has more than enough pegs for a family of four to use
Comments about Product: Standing right by the door we all use most, the mitten tree is ready to take all soggy mittens, hats and neck wraps. It's convenient and practical, allowing the items to dry quickly and retain their shape. And, when loaded with colorful winter accessories, looks really cute, too. My husband and son love it!
Comments about Product: I love this product. I had no place to dry wet gloves and hats so this is an awesome device as simple as it is. Would look good next to a fireplace or wood stove. Wet items from a family of four would severly push its limits though.
Comments about Product: Very functional. Just the right height and takes up little floor space. With two young boys who love the outdoors this was a product I had been eyeing for some time. So happy I bought two!
Comments about Product: I thought this was going to have screw in appendages but it is all welded. Came fully assembled. Very durable and can hold our whole families gloves, hats and scarves. Better than we had anticipated. At a great price.
Comments about Product: Holds lots of mittens/gloves and hats. They dry anywhere and very quickly in front of the fireplace. The kids know right where to put their things when they come in and there isn't a mess on the floor.
Comments about Product: We have a cabin in the mountains in Wyoming that can sleep a whole lot of people. Along with a lot of guests, we also have a lot of wet mittens, socks, hats etc. laying around EVERYWHERE drying after a day of playing in the snow. Drove me crazy. Now everyone hangs their stuff on our mitten tree in the mud room by the heater. Their stuff drys quickly, they can find it and I have a place to sit down. I've wanted one for a while, the best part was getting it on sale!
Comments about Product: This has been wonderful this winter! No longer are my children's hats and gloves scattered all over the house! Before I purchased this, we would put their wet gloves and hats over the vents, to try to help dry them, and then they'd often turn up missing. This mitten tree keeps them off the floor, helps them dry out (and since it is so lightweight, I could even carry it into the family room and place it next to the woodstove, if we had a fire going, to speed up the drying), and help keep items from getting misplaced. It doesn't take up much space at all. I have had several friends comment on what a great product this is, and ask me where I got it.
Comments about Product: We were using a big drying rack for winter hats and mittens. I love this one! It has plenty of space for three kids gloves and hats. We don't have a fireplace, but placed it next to the baseboard and they dry quickly. I have recieved so many compliments on it!
Comments about Product: Bought this item as a Christmas gift for my daughter's family. She places it next to the door so when the girls come home from school they place their winter wear on the tree and then mom brings it next to the pellet stove to dry up. It's great and assists in not having their clothing thrown on the floor all bunched up! She just loves it!
Comments about Product: This is the first time in years that my children's gloves have been able to dry efficiently!! With four little sets of hands in my home, there are plenty of pegs available to put everyone's mittens on! I absolutely love this product!!
Comments about Product: We use this mitten tree for lots of things- more than just mittens! We place it over a floor vent and hang boots so that the inside dries, damp dishtowels, dishcloths and rags so that they dry before they would sit in a laundry basket getting moldy, and of course mittens, scarves, etc. I'll use it all year long, not just in the winter!
Comments about Product: The mitten tree was the most worthwhile household purchases this winter!
I put it in a warm spot near the heater for mittens hats and boots to dry. It's sturdy and stable even when fully loaded. It held enough for a family of 4 during a VERY snowy winter. The best part was that my kids (ages 4 & 8) reliably put their gear on it to dry and easily found them when it was time to go out. I get many compliments on this mitten tree from visitors - even kids.
I'm thinking of moving it closer to the door for shoes when mud season starts.
Although I like doing business with Plow and Hearth, it surprises me that such a useful item is not more widely available.
Comments about Product: Perfect! I bought it to organize my 5-yr-old's mittens, hats, and wet socks that she throws all over the room when she comes in. When I first put it out, my daughter got so excited that this "tree" was a place for her mittens, that she couldn't wait to cover it with all her stuff! It's such a nice, attractive way to keep our small entryway neat. Great price too!
Comments about Product: We "park" it near the heater and when the kids leave for school the next day, their soggy duds are toasty and dry. I wish I had bought this item years ago. It doesn't take up much space and eliminates the former method of spreading the winter gear on a towel on the floor to dry.
Comments about Product: Got this for Christmas and love it. My son had several friends over during a snow day they were soaked. Loaded the mitten tree and they were dry by the time the boys had their cocoa and were ready to head out again. It is a very nice design also. I may use it this summer as a bottle tree!
Comments about Product: This sits right at the front door over the heat vent, and all the mittens and hats that are wet, get hung up to dry. They are there when everyone is thawed out. Warm and handy for the next snowman ":>)
Comments about Product: I have this set-up on our hearth and the entire family and all our weekend guests love to have a place to hang their wet stuff. I even use it for drying wool ski socks after they come out of the wash.
Comments about Product: A friend commented on how much she liked it as soon as she walked in. I just wish I had more colorfull mittens like in the photo. With 2 boys and a husband, most of our mittens are black!
Comments about Product: I love this mitten tree! Before purchasing the mitten tree the floor to our mud room was covered with wet mittens, hats, and scarfs from my 4 kids. Now the kids come in and hang up all of their wet outside gear. No more searching for lost mittens that were drying on the floor. The mittens dry very quickly while hanging on the tree. Even the soaked through mittens are dry and ready for the next day. The mitten tree is true to its word!
Comments about Product: I got this specifically to use with my recycling items in the kitchen. I put a large pizza pan under it and after I wash my bottles and cans I let them drain awhile in my dish drainer and then move them to this tree to finish drying. Now I no longer have cans and bottles sitting all over my counter in the last stages of getting completely dry. I absolutely love it! I need to remove the tabs from soda cans in order for the hole to be large enough to fit on the tree but that is a small thing in the big scheme of this. Tin cans, milk cartons, bottles of all kinds ...I only recently learned that this stuff had to be really dry or it will drain onto the cardboard that is mixed in with it in the recycling tote and ruin the possibility of the cardboard being recycled. This is a wonderful tool. No mittens for us to dry but I am thrilled to have this mitten tree.
Comments about Product: we keep it by the door where everyone comes in and removes their wet ski gear. It is then easy to hang hats, gloves, mittens, etc. to dry. This is a great way to eliminate the heaps of gear dropped on the floor.
Comments about Product: TO HELP ORGANIZE OUT DOOR CLOTHING, KIDS' CAN PUT THEIR GLOVES,HATS,SCARVES,
ETC TO DRY AND WHEN THEY'RE READY TO GO OUT AGAIN EASY TO FIND
I HAVE A COUPLE FOR OUR FAMILY. WISH WE WOULD HAVE HAD THIS WHEN
I WAS GROWING UP, MY MOM WOULD HAVE LOVED IT!
Comments about Product: Excellent for what it does- dry wet mittens. Good design of 'arms' so air can flow through. Wish base was a little wider so it would stand better on a drip tray, but on flat tile, it is fine.
Comments about Product: "Best gift ever," says our daughter in Boston whose four children generate plenty of wet winter wear. Ditto for our son in Grand Junction, CO with his family of winter sports enthusiasts.
Comments about Product: This item would be a great gift for any athlete. I am a runner, cyclist, swimmer, skier, snow shoer and triathlete. It is great to have a place to hang the little items that don't hang well on hangers. I use it year round and highly recommend it.
Comments about Product: Great for hats, mittens, gloves, slippers etc.
Very sturdy and easy to move around.
The only thing that I could suggest is having the option of a taller one to hold more hats and mittens!
Comments about Product: It's a great place to store your gloves/mittens all winter long! When we needed a pair of gloves, we took them off the tree and after being out in the snow or ice we replaced them back on the tree to dry by the fireplace. Also, works great to hang your scarfs or boots to warm them up or dry. For the summer months it's a great place to hang your sandals as well. Our family really makes good use out of our mitten tree!
Comments about Product: The mitten tree was very useful in the winter for mittens and hats to dry inside, but it has also been great this spring to hang wet boots and wet crocs from to dry and to leave on the porch. Many people have commented about the "boot tree" and where I got it. I reply, "Plow & Hearth.com check their website. They have great products."
Comments about Product: Finally, a place to put all those mittens and gloves rather than in a wet pile or lined up on the heater. It keeps them organized and dry, easy to grab again for the next outing!
Comments about Product: The mitten tree was used all fall and winter for gloves, mittens, hats, neck warmers and anything else it would hold. Everything dries and gets aired out. Easy to find both mittens when they have a home.
Comments about Product: We love our mitten tree. We had record snow this winter, and our mitten tree got lots of use. It is durable, light wieght, easy to assemble, sturdy, and keeps the hats and mittens off the hearth floor. It is a space saver during those winter months. I love that it is black iron, it goes perfect with any decor.
Comments about Product: We leave this mitten tree placed over a vent in our laundry room throughout the winter. We put hats, mittens, gloves, scarves on it. The heat blows up and dries everything quickly. My daughter likes it because her things are easy to find (vs. digging through a basket)
Comments about Product: Not a fancy design and noooo problem with that! Usefulness trumps fancy. Great sitting just inside the door for kids and adults gloves and hats. Good for drying but also good for knowing where to find them on your way out. I bought 2 as gifts and they were very well received and used.
Comments about Product: I just moved to Maine from Virginia and was not equipped for the weather. I tended to have lots of wet gloves and hats. The miiten tree is absolutely perfect for drying wet hats, gloves and scarfs and for keeping everything together.
Comments about Product: I absolutely love this mitten tree as it's on display by our fireplace from fall until spring. I place on it my hand knits for guests to take home with them. I always have great comments. I got one for our granddaughters so they could hang their wet mittens and hats on it..they love it.
Comments about Product: I love this item. We leave it in front of our fireplace all winter and dry the kids hats, mittens, boot liners etc. The spacing between the pegs is perfect and I am happy with the amount of items I can dry at once. I have found similar products in other catalogs for twice the price or more. Happy customer.
Comments about Product: I bought this for my brother's family of 3 boys who are ALWAYS outside and they used to just throw their wet stuff in a pile at the door - now they can hang it all up and find it dry the next time they need it running out the door.
Comments about Product: I keep the mitten stand next to the wood stove to dry dripping wet hats and gloves off after coming in from outside. If we need them in a hurry, the mitten stand can go directly on top of the stove and the metal conducts heat up into the gloves. Not good to leave unattended, though, because the stand can be tippy.
Comments about Product: Use to dry hats, mittens, gloves.
No assembly required and very sturdy. Does not rust!
I like everything. You should however sell it in a large size as well. I have a friend who has 3 children and a hearth. I would like to get her one for a gift, but she would need two.
Comments about Product: Twas so nice to finally have a place to dry those wet items - not too big, not too small, it tucked neatly into a corner by the door. Never had a missing mitten and there they were - right by the door ready for the next trip out.
Comments about Product: Sturdy, one piece stand, perfect for drying small items year round. Can be placed decoratively into any space. Don't know how I managed without it. Simplifies drying so many items.
Comments about Product: I bought this for my son's hockey gear to dry out between practices. I wish for this purpose it was a bit larger and taller for hanging longer items. If is was longer hooks and taller it could be used in summer for towels too!
If you are just looking for a way to hang gloves, hats and scarfs this will work well.
Comments about Product: I bought this product for my daughter who has two small children. This is a wonderful item as it keeps the kids mittens together so she isn't searching everywhere for a lost mitten and it dries them quickly after they've played outside in the snow. It also stores easily in a closet during the summer.
Comments about Product: I hung mittens, hats, gloves, socks, and even sneakers that were soaking wet off it. It is a wonderful help during snow storms and the kids know where to find their gloves, etc...
Comments about Product: Space saving mitten tree is perfect for drying wet, snow soaked, hats, gloves, mittens and scarfs in a crowded dorm room. I should have ordered two of them to help my grandson better combat the long, wet, Minnesota winter.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
