Comments about Product: This has been a very good purchase as it protects our wood floor in front of the wood stove in a 230 year old house...I sleep easier with it in place.

Love the Fiberglass Hearth Rug!
Comments about Product: I have owned one of these rugs before but it was a smaller size. It lasted for 10 years. I love the larger size and looking forward to many years of service. Everyone with a fireplace or wood stove should have one! Great value for the price.

hard to clean.
Comments about Product: colour comes off when you try to wipe it with a damp cloth.
I wish we had bought this rug sooner
Comments about Product: perfect for our needs
Comments about Product: My daughter and I just bought this at the store and she wanted to carry it. So I let her. Lo and behold she got fiberglass all over her arms and legs (wearing shorts, of course). I didn't understand what happened until I just unwrapped it and placed it on the floor. My arms are itching like crazy because of the fiberglass. I will return it tomorrow. It's not a good product to have around kids or to handle unless your skin is covered.

Product as promised
Comments about Product: I do not close the fireplace when I have a fire, so sparks and embers occasionally fly out, charring the floor. This rug has already saved the floor from a few hot embers. It looks nice, but it is not particularly plush like you might expect from a "rug". It is more like a mat.

Ease of Mind
Comments about Product: Big log fell out of fireplace and landed on rug, causing no damage to rug or floor.
Comments about Product: Very practicable product that works great
Very good and useful
Comments about Product: Arrived as was described on order acknowledgement.
Right rug for the job!
Comments about Product: Much lighter and flatter than it appeared. Works great in front of open fire. Hard to find size.
By Likes high quality at budget price
Product is fine, delivery was slow.
Comments about Product: The back is too smooth to remain in its place. It creeps away from the fireplace.
Not for carpeted floors
Comments about Product: The rug would be great if it used only on hardwood or tile floors. It slides on our carpeted floor. Had we known this to begin with, we would have looked elsewhere for a hearth rug.
I would certainly buy this item again.
Comments about Product: Hearth rug is nice in front of our wood-burning heater. Like that it is fiberglass and the thickness. Lays flat on floor and easy to clean.I would definitely recommend to anyone needing a fireproof hearth rug. I looked in so many places before finding one that I liked and could get the bigger size.
Comments about Product: This hearth rug lives up to it's description. No marks after live coals fell on it. Easy to clean and looks great. The smaller size is bigger than hearth rugs we have had in the past. My husband and I are very pleased.

I would buy this product again and again
Comments about Product: This rug for fire place lies flat on ground and
protects if there are any flashes of fire from the fire place itself, since it is fire retardant.
The color is neutral and goes with any decor.
This rug is not easy to clean if you spill something on it that requires a lot of scrubbing to remove. Otherwise, I really like it, and would recommend it.
Perfect Hearth Rug
Comments about Product: Perfect for in front of the fireplace. Not bulky, lays out nice & flat & catches any embers that might jump.

Fire-Resistant Fiberglass Hearth Rug
Comments about Product: Late November and have not had a chance to test this rug. Still in the 50s. I purchased the rug based on other reviews so I'm confident that it will serve its purpose. It looks very durable and is well suited for the room its in (basement mancave). I had a very difficult time even finding a fire resistant rug so was happy to find one here at Plow and Hearth.
By Wood Heat
Liked it at first, but then...
Comments about Product: We use this to keep embers off of our living room carpet, which it does quite well. This is our second heating season, and family members have started to notice itching whenever skin contacts the rug. This was not the case a year ago, so it appears the fiberglass carpet fibers tend to break with seasonal use and vacuuming. I'm currently shopping around for a replacement...probably go with wool this time around.

Comments about Product: Works great by our wood burner in our family room. Wish it came in a pattern to hide spots better from wood debris.
Comments about Product: I've had this rug for about 10 years, after about 5 years the edges started fraying and the color started to change. I was hoping the rug lasted longer, but I plan to buy another style with more color in the future.
Looks great, but attracts lint
Comments about Product: The hearth rug is the perfect size and color for our living room, in front of the wood stove. It does seem to acquire more than its share of lint and fur, but is fairly easy to clean using a slightly damp cloth. Can't comment on how well it'll hold up to wood chips or ash debris, but I'm very pleased so far.
Comments about Product: This was a gift and when we saw it we dissappointed on the size for the cost.
Does not burn!
Comments about Product: This run is safe, that is why we bought it and why we use it. We have two of them, one for each stove.

Defeat the sparks!
Comments about Product: My carpet finally has a fighting chance against sparks and embers from our wood burning stove! It also hides the prior burns in the carpet nicely.
Comments about Product: Nice rug for the price and purpose.

Comments about Product: Like I said to my wife, nice rug.
Comments about Product: Grest product. Just the type of hearth rug we were looking for. [...] Thanks.
By Fireplace User
Comments about Product: We purchased this hearth rug to use on our wood floor in our den. It does not slide around and is very fire resistent. It's not overly attractive but it doesn't catch on fire (!) so that's what counts!
Really like this product
Comments about Product: does slip alittle bit when waled on. Bur not much
Comments about Product: The larger than usual size and the fiberglass material all work to protect our wood floor far better than any previous hearth rugs we've owned.
Just wish it hadn't such an industrial look, since it's in our living room
[...] NOT ATTRACTIVE
Comments about Product: SEEMS LIKE IT WILL LAST FOREVER
Comments about Product: Used to protect a persian rug that is close to the fireplace and it did an excellent job.
Doesn' stay put
Comments about Product: It's not a bad looking rug. It might need a different type of backing so that it stays in place better.

Hearth Rug saves floor
Comments about Product: Rug protects floor in front of fireplace.
I would not buy this product
Comments about Product: Used in front of fire place. If I touch it with bare skin I have to wash, makes me burn and itch. Tried to spot clean with just water, color faded and left streaks on rug. Terrible, would never buy another one.
By Mrs C.
Comments about Product: Lays flat, doesn't move much and we walk on it a lot. It never went on sale so I had to wait awhile until there was a 20% off storewide Christmas sale.
Not crzy about this rug at all
Comments about Product: I thought it was going to look more like a rug and not plastic or rubber. Was not attractive at all and very expensive for the quality.

Fiberglass hearth rug looks good
Comments about Product: The fiberglass hearth rug looks quite nice (you'd never guess it was woven fiberglass to look at it). Unfortunately, it does want to change positions (i.e. creep) for no obvious reason but this may have to do with the underlying rug that the hearth rug is sitting upon.

We love it.
Comments about Product: [...]Rug protects our new wood floor in front of fireplace.

I would buy this product again and again
Comments about Product: Our primary heat is wood heat, we clean the wood stove regularly and need a good fire proof rug to catch embers and protect my wood floor. This rug has served us well, I will purchase another when it is time. I placed an anti slip pad under the rug.
Would not purchase again
Comments about Product: Product used in front of fireplace. It doesn't burn, however does leave marks from hot ashes.
By A winter fireplace lover
Hard to clean
Comments about Product: I bought it for safety - and it does add a great peace of mind - however, the first time I had a log jump out - it stained the rug. When cleaning the fireplace, the rug quickly stains with soot and ashes
Works for Us
Comments about Product: Flying sparks were leaving little black burnt marks on our carpet. The fiberglass fire-resistant hearth rug has prevented this. Sparks land on it and burn out, leaving no marks. It is easy to clean by shaking or sweeping. Since we put it on a carpet, we expected it would slip, which it does. The slipping against the fireplace causes the ends to curl under. Even so, it does what it is supposed to do.
Fiberglass hearth rug is dangerous
Comments about Product: Should have warning about the danger of the fiberglass getting into the skin.
Saving the floor.....
Comments about Product: This item has proven to be as it said...fire resistant. We have hard wood floors and have went through several throw rugs trying to protect the floor in front of our wood stove. Finally we have one that really works. A little pricey compared to throw rugs but well worth the money.
Fiberglass works but hurts
Comments about Product: When I used it, some fiberglass fibers got stuck in my hand and was painful. It does work as embers have fallen on it and they just go out without damaging anything, but I do not like to touch it and don't see how I can avoid that. I keep it out of the way until it is needed when the fire must be poked but otherwise keep it out of sight. I'm sorry I did not return it.
Works great, but not so attractive
Comments about Product: Purchased two of these rugs. Neither one was close to the color that was displayed both in the catalog or on line.
High quality and very attractive
Comments about Product: I use this item in my living room and it is useful as well as an attractive part of my decor.
Excellent product. Would by another one
Comments about Product: Use in front of fireplace. Works great.
Hearth Rug Functional & Good Looking
Comments about Product: This is a hearth rug in front of a wood stove fireplace insert. The purpose was to protect the hardwood floor from debris and possible embers. It works very well and is our second one. We purchased the larger size this time and that was a good decision. Looks good and much better protection. The last fiberglass hearth rug lasted 15 years or more before fraying.

Does what it says it Does
Comments about Product: The Hearth rugs performs as stated in the catalog. I have new wood floors and need to protect them from the fire place/wood stove insert. Sparks and small coals have not made a mark on the rug.
I like it!
Comments about Product: I love the idea that I don't have to keep replacing my hearth rug every month because of burn marks. I only wish it were a darker color (I ordered sage which is light tan, not greenish like I expected). The black char marks really stand out.

A Floor Saver!
Comments about Product: This fiberglass rug has saved my vintage hardwood floors more than once. The quality is good, the rug is non-slip. Although we use a hearthguard with our fire, there can be the occasional slip-up spark that makes it through and could do real damage to the floor if the fiberglass rug wasn't there. I purchased the Sage Green color-perfect match to our cabin decor. Thanks!
i would buy product again
Comments about Product: i like it

This is a great rug.
Comments about Product: This is a great rug for in front of our wood stove. Our first one like this lasted at least five years. This is our second one because it is easy for my husband to sweep up the dirt.

Peace of mind
Comments about Product: We've only used the rug a few times but it is a great relief to feel that it may prevent a fire. Even with the doors closed in front of the fireplace, often sparks manage to get out. The rug made those little sparks soon die out--no fire.
Works well--best on wood floors
Comments about Product: Works well on wood floors--velcro-backed tape helps on carpet(if you can find it).
By Miss Mary
Comments about Product: The rug has good coverage area in front of the fireplace, and does what it is supposed to do, which is keep the fire off the floor.
Nice quality and look
Comments about Product: I love the look and quality, however, it does not stay in place when used on a carpet.
Fire res. Rug
Comments about Product: Good

Perfect for our Woodburning Insert
Comments about Product: Our wood-burning insert stove has a blower outlet under the fire-box - which tends to blow sparks out on the floor when you add new wood through the front-loading doors. This fiberglass rug was the perfect solution for us - it's large enough to catch anything that blows out into the room, and the cinders/sparks do ZERO damage to it.

Great rug, but don't vacuum!
Comments about Product: This rug has worked wonderfully to save our wood floor from burning embers/papers that have fallen out of the woodstove. However, the first time I vacuumed it (on the rug setting w/ the bristles spinning) the vacuum left white streaks on the rug. It can be vacuumed with the spinners off (hardwood floor setting). I told Plow&Hearth about the issue and the sent me a new rug right away. [...] I will be a repeat customer.
this was the second one I purchased
Comments about Product: I have one and purchased this one as a gift

Durable, but slides
Comments about Product: It's great because it is fireproof; however, because it slips around we still ended up with a hole in the carpeting.
Looks good and works great!
Comments about Product: Does not leave burn marks on it, unlike other "fire proof" rugs keeping it looking new!

Does the trick
Comments about Product: Does the trick...hardy mat. Good for most applications.
I'm very pleased with my hearth rug.
Comments about Product: The hearth rug protects my wood floor and the
color goes perfect with my decor.

Excellent quality and look.
Comments about Product: great quality and fair price
Comments about Product: Living in the country it is always safety first. Having a roaring fire for warmth is a nice touch on a cold day, but one spark could change things forever. A grate, fire chain and common sense can do wonders, but this rug is just an added piece of protection. This season we had a few sparks hit the floor, but the rug absorbed them all with no fuss. Love the color and the fit.
Comments about Product: This is in front of my fireplace. it's a nice, plain style that doesn't interfere with my decor. it appears to be safe, and my cat likes to lie on it. It's also easy to vacuum.

Very pleased with this product!
Comments about Product: It keeps my carpet clean and fire-stained free! Wish I would have purchased it before I started using my woodstove.
Resists fire but not water stains
Comments about Product: It is very fire poof in the middle, the trim is not. It gets burned off easily, exposing the rough fiberglass edges.
A must if you have a wood burning stove
Comments about Product: The size of this rug is great and protects my carpeting. The only fault is it likes to walk.
Comments about Product: The rug is just the right size, and we love how thin it is, so that it blends in with the hardwood floor.
Perfect Fireplace Rug
Comments about Product: This rug is perfect for any fireplace, it really is fire proof. I've had other fireplace rugs and nothing compares to this one. Plow & Hearth thank you again for a great product.
Protected as Advertised
Comments about Product: This product came as advertised. Protected my hardwood floors. Was the perfect size and the color was exactly what we wanted. Hand washed and retained color. Used for one winter and it looks brand new even with numerous hot coals landing on it. Rubber underside kept it in place.
Comments about Product: I bought this rug to go over the carpet which is right in front of our wood stove. The reason I picked this one was because of the picture of the end of a burning log resting on top of it. I even talked with customer service and was told that this would be the rug to offer the most protection. Possibly I was expecting too much. Some hot ash did spill out onto the runner and burned through the top of it but when later a coal burned through the runner and put a hole in the carpet I realized it was not going to offer me the protection I needed. I may invoke the 100% guarantee that is offered by the company but it may just be the best I will be able to find.
Comments about Product: I was expecting protection from shooting sparks & embers with this rug, but in it's 2nd year of use it has black burns, & in 2 places it has holes burned completely thru.
Hard to clean
Comments about Product: Disappointed when tried to spot clean the rug. We had the brown rug and when we tried to spot clean it, the brown came off and left a white spot. Seemed as though the color just lifted off. Now there is a huge white spot on the brown rug and looks awful. Had it over a year so the warranty is no longer in effect so we're stuck with it.
Difficult to clean
Comments about Product: Don't even think about ordering any color but charcoal or you will have dark spots or faded spots. There are no instructions on cleaning or warnings that the color will wash out with scrubbing or cleaning agents. Otherwise it is excellent fire protection for the floor. I would recommend with the above caveat.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
