We have a large Lopi fireplace insert that you really have to lean into with your tools to adjust the logs. These opera length 'gauntlets' are fabulous! They spare my arms (almost to the elbow) from any heat at all. But the best part is that they don't get tough to the touch on the outside. Mine are still as soft as when they were new, and they've seen hard service during this past cold and rainy Winter! I used to buy a new pair of gloves every year -- because they wore out in one season. This will be my second season with these gloves and there are no holes, burns or marks on them. They are something you don't see much of nowadays : EXCELLENT Quality, and NOT planned obsolescence. I highly recommend these gloves. The only down side for me is that the fingers are a little too long for a woman's hand. But, this is a small matter, as long as I am spared from burns and heat ;)

My wife burned up the oven mitts we were using to protect ourselves when we loaded the wood stove. With these gloves I don't have to worry.

My husband loves these gloves. he uses them 150 days per year and has burned 2 right handed gloves to a crisp (and is on his way to # 3). The lefties are a waste, though, as he only deals with the fire right handed.,
I bought these as a christmas present for my husband two years ago for our outdoor fireplace. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. He uses them all the time. He can stick his hands (which he is a surgeon) in to the fire while adding another log with these gloves on. After 2 years they are still in great shape.

I bought these gloves for my son for Christmas. His home has a hugh open fireplace and the gloves are great for adding logs to the fire. He says they are great and his hands and forearms are safe from the high heat of the fire. Can't find anything that isn't good about them.

I shopped around a lot before i purchased these. I was concerned that they would offer enough protection when loading/moving logs in the fireplace. These are a perfect combination of comfort, flexibility, and protection. The are outstanding!
Perfect woodstove gloves

These gloves were so much better than any others we have used when maintaining our woodstove fire.

Gloves used for working with wood stove which is used to heat our house 100%. You cannot pickup a burning log, but for common sense use I have no complaints. We frequently use the wood stove to bake potatoes and the gloves are good for lightly handling the finished product - that is, you cannot squeeze the hot potato in your hand but they are more than sufficient to get the potato to the kitchen counter.

Not so sure about the "Fireman's Shield
from Thousand Oaks CA
Advertised as protection good enough to safely pick up a flaming log, like real fireman's gloves. Warnings came with them saying avoid flames.I am afraid to put them to the test.

Gloves look great in P&H pictures. Materials are good quality, but construction wise they are similar to average leather work gloves. Made in China. They do the job, but a bit disapointing for the price. If I would buy again would probably go for a set of typical grill gloves. But I am not working with extremely hot fires either.
I am very well pleased.

very well pleased with the fireman's shield gloves. they are more comfortable than i expected and do a very good job of protecting my hands from the flames and coals when i load the woodstove. good purchase.

Adequate, but not what I had hoped for.
Gloves are adequate for the fireplace, but the sleeves are too short and have some burn holes where they came in contact with sparks. I would not buy these again.

I wore out my first pair of gloves after three years of winter use. I use a wood-burning stoveat home during the winter months. I'm a lefty and am happy to share with you I have not experienced a burn. The Fireman's glove protects my arm almost to the elbow which allows me to place wood into the hot interior of the stove without worry. P.S. I give the right hand glove to my son, thank you for double the protection!!
I purchased these gloves for my husband for Christmas. We build a lot of fires in our fireplace at home and they get hot! He really loves to use them. They offer great protection against the heat. They also are nice for handling cut logs that pose a splinter danger.

Use them to take the fire screen off the fire place as well as adjusting wood in the fire place when needed. No burns or discomfort on my hands.
These gloves are great
from San Diego, CA
These gloves are great and are well insulated. I read a review to the contrary but I have been using these gloves at least 3 nights a week putting logs on our fireplace fires and they work great. They haven't burned nor have I.There is no substitute for log handling tools if prolonged close contact with the fire is necessary. Great purchase.

I use the gloves for handling wood into my wood burner stove. The cuff material doesn't seem heat/fire resistant. It already has several "melt" areas.

I must had a pair that were not manufactured properly. I was grilling some corn and potatoes on the grill and when I picked the hot potato to turn it, I burnt the heck out of fingers. They might be insulated properly around the fingers. A regular pot holder protected my hand better.

This is the best item I ever purchased from Plow & Hearth! It holds a huge amount of logs and the extra large wheels carries it from the woodpile to the house very easily. I'm only 5" tall and weigh around 100 lbs. and I can easily load it and move it with ease. A couple of trips to the woodpile will load a ½ cord of wood in no time!

The gloves are excellant at picking up burning logs and also the grip is good.
These gloves are wonderful. They are long lasting and very tough. Great product. Kind of pricey but worth it.

These gloves protect my hands and arms when adding logs to my wood stove. These gloves are a must to anyone who has a fireplace, wood stove or anything that you use for burning wood as a safety measure.

My Texan husband has a large BBQ pit that he cooks with a lot. He uses the gloves to move the meat around, remove the grill to add more wood, and clean up a hot grill afterwards. I have used these gloves to add and reposition wood to a small woodstove. They are great!
