Comments about Product: I purchased this as something fun to try in my fireplace for Christmas and was not disappointed. The kids enjoyed watching the color changes (mostly green, purple & blue)and my husband appreciated the quick start to the fire. It had such a nice presentation that I sent it as a gift for my mother's home and will consider it as a Christmas present to my neighbors next year.
Comments about Product: This is a great gift for people who love to use their fireplace. I purchase this every year for my in-laws for Christmas. They enjoy getting it and using it. I do wish that the basket would change ocassionally. I initially purchased it in a Copper tin which was nice but it has only been available in a red basket for the past 3-4 years.
Comments about Product: Purchased as a gift for someone who added on a wood burning fireplace and big hearth to their house just before Christmas. They told me that they enjoyed using it during the next couple of cold months.
Comments about Product: It would've been nice to have more of the wax bottom starter cones, but with such a great quantity of fat wood and the fun of adding colors with the color cones, this was a perfectly packaged gift.
Comments about Product: I started giving this as a Christmas gift several years ago and my friends look forward to receiving it every year. Not only is the basket with cones decorative, but the flames they produce are beautiful. Everyone from the very young to the old are amazed at the colorful flames they produce. It creates such a festive environment. This item is on my permanent gift-giving list.
Comments about Product: The basket contained a large assortment of starter sticks and colored cones which lasted the entire holiday season. Rec'd positive comments from all who visited during the holidays.
Comments about Product: We use these in our ski house in Vermont. After a long day out on the slopes it is always fun to come back and have a fire. Adding these make it that much more enjoyable. We buy them every year and have them shipped there. It is part of our welcome package when we arrive.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
