Comments about Product: Bought a box for my nephew for Christmas and one for myself just because I liked the packaging. Broke off a 2 inch piece and it started a wonderful fire. Have used kindling for 40 years, this might convert me.
Comments about Product: Bought one for myself, 2 for gifts 3 years ago. Everyone loves it. No complaints with the box or fire sticks. Glad they have the refill sticks. I agree with Matt from Leavenworth WA. Works great with crumpled up newspaper, 2 sticks of wood and a match!

What a Joke!

Dynamite Fire Starters
Comments about Product: Dynamite Fire Starters are awesome. We have been using them for over a year in our fireplace. We have used numerous different types of fire starters to start our firewood but these have been the best by far. The box they come in are the center of conversation sometimes. lol I am happy we finally found something that will start our fire with ease. These are highly recommeded!
Comments about Product: No need for kindling!! These things are perfect for lighting fires. Just one does the trick. Just add crumpled up newpapers, two pieces of dry wood and one match.
What a blast!
Comments about Product: Bought this as a Christmas gift and what an impression it made! Very cool packaging...really looked like box of dynamite right down to the sawdust it's packed in!
Good fire starters
Comments about Product: I got two boxes of these for family and have had fun telling people that they can build a dynamite fire if they want to build one with these sticks!
great conversation piece!
Comments about Product: I bought 2 cases of the dynamite sticks and gave them as gifts. They were a huge hit, along with the crystals and pinecones and fat wood. I tried the dynamite sticks myself before giving them as gifts and was pleased with their performance. I think next Christmas, my daughters and son in laws will be looking forward to more of the same.

Damaged shipment but P&H comes through
Comments about Product: The initial shipment was severely damaged, every single one was broke in half and thirds but when I called Plow and Hearth to inform me they shipped an undamaged replacement box immediately. The product is great and I applaud P&H for their timely resolution to this matter.

I've bought 2 of these and will buy more
Comments about Product: We buy these and use the firestarters for camping and the boxes; we put wheels, inside hinges, handle for opening, a clasp to shut it and a rope and wooden ball at the end for the kids to pull around then we put abc/123 large wooden blocks inside and give it to all kids we know at their 1st birthday party and everyone loves it.
I love the dynamite fire starters.
Comments about Product: The box itself is a real conversation starter. The starters are consistent and simple to use in my pot belly stove. We have encouraged others to purchase this item.

my husband is the fire starter!
Comments about Product: My husband has become addicted to these. Anytime there's a fire that needs to be lit. He is requested to start it. Dynamite firestarters are his secret but... this is pricey addiction has sent me to look elsewhere for this exact item.
Functional and Fun!
Comments about Product: We heat our home with wood, and thought these would make a unique and unexpected gift for my husband- while still being very functional.
He was shocked to open a nix of dynamite to say the least. These start so well in our stove that we can actually use 1/3 to get the fire going strong.

Crate Is a Cheap piece of Junk
Comments about Product: The fire starters themselves work really well. The gimmick to this product, and the reason my wife ordered it for me, is that you can reuse the cleverly decorated crate (looks like a case of dynamite) by purchasing refills. The PROBLEM is that within a day or two, the screws holding the lid hinges in place stripped out of their holes and the lid no longer closes properly and/or is easily knocked off so that is just looks like a broken box. Not the presentation piece you want to have sitting on display near the fire as shown in the catalog. Of course I can fix the lid, but my wife is sorely disappointed that I will have to waste time fixing a gift she thoughtfully provided but broke almost immediately upon use...and no I am not going to go through the hassle of trying to mail the crate back for exchange!!!
Cute but useless
Comments about Product: These are not so great. Fatwood is much better tho the add that only a few pieces are needed is false. Once started it will burn but does not start a fire without a lot of it.
Comments about Product: All as advertised

I like things that go boom!
Comments about Product: Just what it's supposed to be
Comments about Product: Works perfectly! Even though I have a gas starter, I still use the starters because they get the fire hot sooner.
Dynamite Fire Starters are incredible!

Good guy gift
Comments about Product: I got these for my dad and my father in law who are both hard to buy for. They have different styles but they both liked the gift. Don't know if the sticks worked but everyone thought the box was cool.

Left a big impact!
Comments about Product: My grandchildren couldn't understand why I would give their Mom dynamite-they all had a good laugh.
Really cute with one caveat
Comments about Product: this would have been perfect, but the hinges are cheap, two screws were out and will come out easily again if not glued in. If you can handle going through this doodah, have at it, it's attractive. Don't think much about shipping anything back, the boxes are on their last legs and panting when they arrive.

Starts even in the rain!
Comments about Product: Used while camping and it started the fire even with damp wood.
The sticks are rather large - only need maybe half of one to start a good fire.

I would buy this product again.
Comments about Product: I use it in my fireplace and it works great...much better than fatwood. Although, it looks like a piece of sausage and my dog ate half of one!
Great product and rustic looking container.

For Pyromaniacs with a Sense of Humor
Comments about Product: Fire Starters are another great gift for that someone who has everything. The people I've given them to were first intrigued by the weight of the box, then were amazed by the name of the powder company burned into the reusable hinged wooden crate. When they saw what was inside, they laughed, and were delighted. The Fire Starters work very well indoors or out. The user may cut or break them in pieces. Carrying one in a pocket on the way to a campfire is sure to engender comments.

MY DAUGHTER LOVES THESE!

Workhorses in the shape of dynamite!
Comments about Product: I purchased these dynamite-shaped fire starters to use with our catalytic wood-burning stove. I noticed the price was comparable to the fire-starter bricks I had been purchasing at the big box store and decided to give them a try. I dislike having to separate the traditional tarry brick-like fire-starter sticks. The quality and burn time of the dynamite starters is better than the brick-like starters I had used. The pleasant smell is also a huge plus for me. The dynamite sticks don't smell "fumy" when they burn like the tarry bricks did. So...the dynamite starters, in my opinion, look better, smell better, and do their job better than the common brick-type starters many stores stores sell. You might also be interested putting your dynamite fire starters in the wooden box, which Plow and Hearth also sells to hold the dynamite starters. The attractive box sits on our hearth and we just put in this refill pack every time we run out.

I noticed the price was comparable to the fire-starter bricks I had been purchasing at the big box store and decided to give them a try. I dislike having to separate the traditional tarry brick-like fire-starter sticks and I don't like the way they just seem to sit around in their unattractive plastic or cardboard box packaging looking unattractive. When I received the dynamite sticks, I felt like the box was attractive enough just to sit right on the hearth in plain view. Moreover, the quality and burn time of the dynamite starters is better than the brick-like starters I had used. The pleasant smell is also a huge plus for me. Comments about Product: One stick and even wet wood will start. GREAT STUFF!

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
