Looks great depth is 3" so if you install in a standard 3 1/2" wall, you will need to frame it out 3/4" if you want to reduce noise levels of the return air.

Comments about Plowhearth Decorative Air Return Grills:
We installed wainscoting in our dining room and the look was hurt by the ugly metal intake vent in the middle of the wall. We replaced it with this for a much improved look. We have had to fill the little gaps around it to keep it from whistling.
