Comments about Product: My UC gnome stands proudly in my front garden. Although I imagined that he would be a little larger, I enjoy looking at him hiding among the plants. Haven't had him long enough to know how he'll stand up to the sun & rain. Happy with the purchase so far.
Comments about Product: Valentine's Day gift for husband. Where we live (deep in the heart of Texas) it is hard to find Iowa State University items. The gnome is proudly displayed in my husband's office.
Comments about Product: This was bought as part of a gift for a dirty Santa that my family plays every Christmas ( each person picks a number out of a hat and in that order, they pick a wrapped gift from the pile. The next person can either pick a wrapped gift or steal the gift someone else has and a gift can only be stolen 3 times). My family are HUGE LSU fans and I know this gift will be stolen 3 times! It looks cute on the website, but awesome on person.
Comments about Product: Wish there were some of the California State Colleges -- Humboldt State Loggers and Sonoma State and University of Idaho at Moscow -- I would buy them for my daughter and grandchildren
Comments about Product: The gnome is a perfect size. I had him outside in my rock garden during football and basketball season, since the Buckeyes were so awesome.
A hint -- I kept him upright by putting chopsticks in the holes under his feet. Perfect for "gnome stakes."
I recommend you use your gnome inside because he faded during his two seasons outside. His scarlet and gray is now rose and gray. Too bad -- I gave several as gifts.
Comments about Product: I gave this gnome to my thirty-something son for Christmas. Adult boys can be hard to shop for. He was delighted. I'm not sure how well Mr. Gnome will hold up outside. I think my son is using him inside and shows him off when he has friends over to root for the team.
I thought he'd be bigger. I read the measurements before I bought him, but I still thought bigger. Even on the small side, he's one of a kind and just as cute as can be. I told my son I thought he would be a good doorstop indoors.
Comments about Product: I really appreciated the detail of the paint.
Sometimes you purchase from a catalog and something looks nice in the picture, but when you get it it isn't as 'crisp'. That was not the case here. It was very cute and bright.
Comments about Product: The gnome was a gift to my Michigan State daughter to celebrate Nebraska's entry into the Big 10. It's great that the NE gnome is tough looking to intimidate Sparty. Pure fun at a small price. Go Big Red!
Comments about Product: This made for a fun and unexpected Christmas gift. Christmas gift challenge is to find something that would not be found at the campus outlets. It created wonderful conversations from visitors. None of visitors working on the campus or just fans of Mississippi State University had seen one of the MSU Gnomes. So great to give a fan something new, fun, and unseen who lives very near the campus. Of course, any and all collegiate items are fun to give as gifts.
Comments about Product: The USC gnome was my husband's favorite gifts this christmas. The colors are a perfect match for USC's colors and he is cute and friendly looking! During football season he sits on out mantle in the front room, but off-season he is a great display in our window sill.
We will be adding gnomes to our collection as our own kids go off to college! The only thing I would say is that he is smaller than anticipated but still a good size- not too small.
Comments about Product: This is an adorable, unique garden ornament perfect for the sports enthusiast. My daughter and son-in-law have it in their foyer for the winter and it is the perfect size to move around for Carolina game parties. Seems very durable. They just love it.
Comments about Product: I bought two of these as gifts for dedicated University Fans. They are cute, attractive and nobody wanted to use them in the garden! One person, who has an extensive Santa Claus collection on display at Christmas, added it to her collection - the perfect UNC themed Santa. It does look like the jolly old elf, and indeed, is perfect for indoor display. The gnome is tabletop size, charming, well made and very detail oriented. Absolutely unique for sports fans.
Comments about Product: Great garden gnome that is fun for an avid sports fan or alumni. Adds a little flare to the garden and is a wonderfully unique gift that got a lot of attention.
Will order more to give as gifts.
Comments about Product: I gave this gnome to my Alabama mom for her birthday and she was thrilled. He even has his own special room and is well taken care of. Now, just have to get him to get along with his cousin, the Florida Gator gnome!!
Comments about Product: I thought the concept of a collegiate gnome was funny and ordered it more as a joke gift for my physician daughter. We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality and attractiveness of the piece, and he has taken his place in their family rec. room with the rest of the rather notable collection of collegiate memorabilia.
Comments about Product: I grew up in Iowa and now live in Texas. I am always looking for quality items that represent Iowa. The Garden Gnome is perfect. I purchased an extra one for my sister as we both watch the Iowa Hawkeyes football team every season. We can also take it to some of the Iowa get together's they have around the state of TX.
Comments about Product: We bought this for our son in law--a rabid Alabama fan--and he loved it. Our daughter said she was glad they don't have a mantle or it would be front and center. It was fun to give a gift that brought so much joy. It was a bit smaller than anticipated, but I guess you just don't want a really big gnome.
Comments about Product: This gnome is the cutest! The colors are brilliant and don't fade. The design is unique. Great yard art -- and a great gift for those that love college teams. Holes in soles of feet excellent for anchor sticks. (I used chopsticks.)
Comments about Product: I found them cheaper at [...]. I just wish he came in a larger size. He is too small for the seat belts in the truck and car but works if you wrap the belt around him. I like him a lot. Roll Tide!
Comments about Product: These are adorable and will make great gifts for just about anyone. They are smaller than many "outdoor" gnomes, but I'm sure they'll never leave the mantel . . . except to watch the games, of course. I want one of my own and wish there were even more schools represented.
Want to step in for Santa? We happen to know this is high on _______'s Christmas list!
The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
