Comments about Product: Bought 9' green umbrella. So beautiful and such high quality. Their customer service is the best. We are so very happy. Thank you
Love my umbrella!!
Comments about Product: This is my second 7-ft. umbrella, my first one was very satisfactory(I'm not sure how many years it stood on our deck, but loved it out there). When the time came to replace it, I came back to Plow & Hearth and ordered another identical one, though the "color" name was different,it is the exact same fabric, so glad I could replicate it. I do like the color of the pole, dark brown that looks like wood and the crank seems to work better that the first one.
Excellent quality, color and fabric
Comments about Product: Very Unique, Excellent quality
Comments about Product: This umbrella has nice coverage and provides adequate shade in the Nevada sun. We wanted something that could tilt to keep the shade constant, and this is a thick fabric which doesn't let any light thru (Americania fabric) Sturdy pole and removable canopy look like they will provide several seasons worth of use (most umbrellas in this sun last about 8 months). Not pleased with how the pole near the crank assembly is constructed, (it looks cracked at the seam) but it seems to be functioning well. The fact that the canopy is removable is great, hoping I can purchase several replacements to change out the look of the yard.

Very satisfied with the umbrella.
Comments about Product: I was very happy with the Plow and Hearth product we had for about 5 years. The umbrella we had before broke during a thunder storm. Didn't hesitate to purchase another.
Not up to expectations
Comments about Product: 7 ft so we use it for a small table or between two chairs. Works fine. Bought one about three years ago and it was constructed better and had more durable fabric.
Comments about Product: I use the umbrella on my deck. It is solid constuction, however, it seems of slighter build than the model I purchased about 5 years ago. The last model came with a self tie-strap that was handy and this was does not. As long as I always put it down during storms it should last, but I will have to attach a tie-strap myself.
Usable..not what I expected for cost
Comments about Product: Use product on deck. Umbrella does not stay in pockets when it is unfurled. Light winds will raise umbrella upward. Does not tie closed. Nice appearance and we can use to shade when sitting on deck.
Market Umbrella Disappointing
Comments about Product: We have only recently received this product but were immediately struck by its overall weak construction. The umbrella fabric is thin as is the pulley rope, and the wooden shaft is more slender than we had hoped. For the price I would expect something more sturdy. It is already bending in the wind on our deck.
Comments about Product: I now own two of these umbrella's. they provide color on my patio while protecting me and the furniture from the sun. Well made.
Classic Market Umbrella
Comments about Product: I loved this umbrella. It fit perfect in the space. I purchased the matching cushions.
Not up to Plow and Hearth's standards
Comments about Product: The umbrella goes out flat, no curve, so you will always have to tilt it to be protected. When you close the umbrella, there is no tie to keep it tight. While its lightness makes it easy to handle, I have had umbrellas of that lightness before, and one big wind just either blew it away or bent the pole, so I had to send it back.

So far, so good
Comments about Product: So far it has been great and provided shade I needed. We have not had much weather, and I got it at the end of July, so I cannot yet speak to its durability. My 7' umbrella is good for a small round table
almost sent it back
Comments about Product: Pole assembly comes in two parts. They did not fit together - and we had to grind down some type of residue inside the larger pole so that the thinner one could slide into it. Almost packed it up and sent it back as defective.
Comments about Product: This product is far below your standards. The Canopy is to big for the frame. When it is closed it comes off the frame even with no wind. Low Quality fabric, and the top piece that screws into the frame to hold canopy in place was a flimsy piece of light weight plactic. Nothing like the photos. Very disapointed!
I have ordered many things from you in the past and have always been pleased, but not with this item.
Comments about Product: I received an email saying that I hadn't been shopping in the store in some time. And it said if I purchased $100 I would receive a $100 gift card within 9 days. It has been well over 9 days. I have called and reported that I didn't receive the gift card. And still no gift card. Why can't you track the gift card that brought be back shopping at your store.

It gets worse
Comments about Product: I wrote Oct. 2011 after having the umbrella for a short time and gave it 3 stars because I did not like having to replace the spokes in the umbrella pockets every time I opened it. After 3 months of use, the crank handle has rusted, the color (Butter yellow) has faded, the plastic top has broken off the top of the pole and had to be wired on and, of course, the spokes have to be replaced every time I open it. The only positive is the color looks pretty from a distance if I don't open it. It is cheap construction. I bought a more expensive umbrella for another area and have none of these problems.
Broke already, purchased spring 2012
Comments about Product: Unfortunately, despite careful use (always put down if strong winds) one of the bars snapped at the joint. It's very cheaply constructed and does not even come with a tie for the umbrella when not in use. As other users mentioned, the bars tend to slip out of the umbrella if you're not careful. The umbrella portion is beautiful, decent fabric but it needs a much better pole/frame.

Not happy with quality
Comments about Product: I bought swing and rocker cushions to match the carnival stripe umbrella, along with outdoor patio rugs for the complete look. Love the colors, agree that the fit is not right as the ribs kept coming out of the canopy. However, the worst part for us was having this ONE month then losing it to a storm due to very poor materials being used. We always leave the umbrella down, unless we are on the patio using it to keep it safe from strong winds. So imagine our surprise when the ribs that hold the canopy on bent and broke into pieces as we laid it flat on the ground! Those ribs are simply extruded aluminum, not quality and not strong enough to last! I asked for and was told I would get a replacement, but have not received it yet. Customer service implied that it was my fault since they are " not responsible for acts of nature". True, but your products should be worth the large amount of money paid for them. This is definately NOT!
poor quality. Spokes do not fit into mat
Comments about Product: every time I opened umbrella had to fit spokes in slot
I doubt I'd buy it again
Comments about Product: The umbrella sits on our 2nd story deck where it gets some wind. I love the colors, true to picture and bright when seen from inside. Love the thickness and feel of the fabric - lets in just enough light to not feel like a cloud. Because the deck gets some wind, we close the umbrella when not in use - who ever heard of an umbrella with out a tie? I've got bungy cord around it which really kills the look. And every, repeat, every, time we open the umbrella (with the tacky brassy plastic handle) we have to put the cover back on the spokes. "Why yes it is a Plow and Hearth umbrella, stand back while I reattach it before we can use it." For the price, I wouldn't buy it again.
disappointed in the extreme!
Comments about Product: I ordered the black floral umbrella and while the fabric was very pretty and seemed pretty durable, I can't help but be frustrated every time i open it because i have to keep re-inserting the fabric into the frame of the umbrella. Also there is no fabric tie to close the umbrella together when it isn't opened. That is a detail that i've always seen come with an umbrella. The worst thing though is the handle. It came chipped. It is extremely poor quality and Its a cheap plastic handle that I would compare with a plastic toy ring from a gum machine at Toys r us. We americans deserve quality and while I paid [$] with shipping and tax, I did so because for that price, I felt like it was an investment and that i would have it for a couple of years:(
Not worth the $
Comments about Product: like many of the reviews the crank is difficult to use. there is no latch to secure in full open position. in closed position spine comes out of fabric pockets, flaps around in breeze , no fabric tie wrap to secure when closed. i envision this will cause unnecessary wear&tear and early replacement of the fabric. i'm also concerned it will knock over or become air born with a wind gust as there's no way to secure in closed position. the frame is thin aluminum which does not appear to be powder coated for strenghn and weather resistance. recommend you keep the plastic sleeve and box for storage. the cap on the top which secures the fabric to frame is flimsy plastic with plastic screw (male&female), plastic will likely discolor in the sun over time. can't get screw hand tight, almost feels like threads stripped. the tilt mechanism is heavier metal and works fine. [@] have better constructed models for less money.
By Neighborhood Bird Lady
Comments about Product: Every time I put the umbrella up I have to reinsert the spines into the pockets. Every time! And, since they are always out of the pockets when the umbrella is down it catches the wind. Definetly would not recommend or purchase again.
Comments about Product: Surprised that the canopy was removable on the 7 foot umbrella, the description didn't say it was. This makes it an even better item for us. We have three different locations for seating and each is a little different now we can take the umbrella to different spots and still match the cushions.
Comments about Product: I bought the 7' aluminum umbrella, bronze color metal and red/cream/black stripe canvas. I bought this to use with a small table/chair set... the umbrella is the perfect diameter for the set and the space we have it in on the front porch. The only issue is that the set is bar height, so the umbrella sits a little lower to the table than I'd like. I plan to get an umbrella base that will allow me to add a little height.
The colors are vibrant, but sophisticated.
Do it yourself
Comments about Product: You have to install the umbrella material on the umbrella spokes rather than having the umbrella arrive already put together.
Comments about Product: I can use the umbrella and stand in the conversation area or, with a strong person, move the base and the umbrella to the table. The umbrella comes in two parts - the pole and spokes, and the cover separately. It took two of us to put the cover on, but it went on easily. It definitely shades from the sun. I think it is going to work very well when it gets hotter.

Too loose for the frame
Comments about Product: The fabric pockets for the spokes to fit into are too big and everytime I put the umbrella up, I have to replace most of the spokes into the fabric--very annoying and time consuming.
colors matched our furniture perfectly
Comments about Product: purchased the umbrella in July and in September. the top "plastic piece" that holds the cloth umbrella on the actual frame broke when I brought the umbrella down. It screws on top and it is just plastic. It just broke & popped off. I was shocked. I know it was not misused on our part so was very disappointed. Perhaps it needs to be made out of metal. I called for a replacement part and Plow & Hearth sent me the whole frame which I did not ask for--I only wanted the top piece. I am wondering if down the road it breaks again will I be able to get a replacement piece???? I was happy with the umbrella otherwise as the color was a perfect match for our furniture.

Comments about Product: Accents the back deck patio very well, as well as taking care of the afternoon sub at our vacation home. I will purchase another for the picnic area near the lake next season.
Comments about Product: Have you ever wondered if the color in the catalog is the true color? Well, what you see is what you get. The color was exactly what I thought I was ordering.

Spend more and get a better product
Comments about Product: The crank needs constant lubrication. The umbrella doesn't fit well. The steel isn't painted well; there are spots with no paint.
Comments about Product: poor design allows umbrella fabric to come off the end of the spokes every time the umbrella is closed
making it difficult to use
Love the color
Comments about Product: Last year we bought a less expensive umbrella at another store and it completely faded.
By Satisfied customer
Comments about Product: Product arrived speedily. Assembly was very easy and required no additional tools. Shipping was remarkably fast. I am very pleased with the entire purchase experience.
Comments about Product: Poles slip out of small pockets so they have to be reinserted each time you put up umbrella. Planning to return product.
I would buy this product again
Comments about Product: aaaaaai love this umbrella!!! Evem with our strong winds it holds up well and the color remains bright even after a hot summer!!
Comments about Product: I purchased one in 2010 with matching cushions and LOVED it all! So, got another one in 2011 in order to get rid of a huge one I had. This second one is definitely not as sturdy or good looking as the first. The crank is not as sturdy, and the shaft is thinner and not a nice wood color like the first. The tilt mechanism is definitely not as easy either. I bought two stands alike, but because the shaft is thinner on the newer umbrella, it comes out from the stand occasionally when it is windy. Fortunately it is lightweight enough for me to get it back in the stand. When I know in advance it will be windy, I lay it down on the ground. It's still nice, easy to turn the crank and the fabric seems durable.
Comments about Product: I like to take them out in the evenings so I can look at the sky and these crank down and the top part slips out so I can put it in the corner and then put it back for shade the next day.
Comments about Product: The first storm of the season the braces on this umbrella bent. All my neighbors umbrellas survived without incident but this is poorly made and bent within the first few minutes. The base is nice but I find it frustrating that the base requires an extra attachment for the standard umbrellas that Plow and Hearth sells. Should be sold as a package deal.

Comments about Product: We bought this to replace our other umbrella that was getting difficult to crank. The one we had before was a sunbrella and it was awesome, but pricey. This wasn't cheap by any means either and we thought worth the extra money for one we thought would be equal to the other. We were wrong. The fabric is too loose for the holes the slats go in. It becomes difficult to crank off and on and we just bought it a month ago in red and it is already fading!! I dont recommend this to anyone
Wonderful Patio Umbrella
Comments about Product: This is a great addition to our patio. The assembly was easy and the product is good quality. It comes in a variety of nice colors and is very attractive. So far, it has not been laundered, but it seems like the fabric will hold up well when washed.
Very nice market umbrella
Comments about Product: I use this umbrella to shade a patio chair and table previously shaded by a large tree that went down in the winter. The umbrella so far works very well, and the tilt mechanism is a feature I use often as the sun moves through the day. Though it came through a recent sudden high wind situation intact, I would recommend closing the umbrella during bad weather.
Great color, ok quality
Comments about Product: I bought this umbrella for the color - buttercup yellow which goes perfectly with my outdoor furniture - and it is exactly what i wanted. For the price, it's fine quality. The only real issue is the fact that the rib ends of the frame don't stay in the pockets so it's a trick to raise it. I was also surprised that it arrived in two packages, so i had to assemble the cover over the frame. It isn't the best fit, but it is fine for the price
great umbrella. Nice looking and sturdy.
Comments about Product: We bought two and are vey pleased

I Love the color and work great
Comments about Product: Use it in the back yard after work I sit outside and enjoy the summer
Doesn't fit right!
Comments about Product: I didn't realize the fabric is not attached to the ribs of the umbrella. This would be o.k. except the sleeves aren't long enough to stay put when the umbrella is down. You have to wind it up as you are putting the fabric on.
Needs a little something!
Comments about Product: I like the look of the umbrella. However, what I don't like is that each time you put it down the umbrella rods come out of the pockets of the material. Not a big deal, but it does get annoying to have to put the rods back in each time you put the umbrella up (daily in our case).

Comments about Product: I ordered the lime green, and it is a great color. However, that is probably the only good thing about it. The crank is very difficult to operate - not smooth at all. The fabric is not attached to the frame and doesn't stay on very well. It almost seems like it is not the correct size to fit the frame. Each time the umbrella is closed the fabric falls away from the frame and must be re-attached when opened, which is very annoying. I emailed the company and they sent me some clips that I had to drill into the ribs of the frame to keep the umbrella fabric attached to fix this problem, but I'm not sure why they didn't just include those to begin with. Overall, I do not feel that this umbrella was worth the money. I have another from a different company that was less expensive and a better quality.

Just what I was looking for!
Comments about Product: Love it. I just wish I had ordered the next larger size.

Comments about Product: As I had hoped, the cover fit on my 2 year old frame. I am elderly and knew total assembly by me would be impossible. The result is perfect!
Well worth the price.

Fair Product for the Price
Comments about Product: I ordered this umbrella to go with one I purchased from Plow and Hearth last year. It was supposed to be the same product but the pole is a completely different color. So far the quality seems to be comparable but I would really have liked my two umbrellas to match with the same wood grain sold last year. [...]
Nice Patio Umbrella
Comments about Product: I am pleased with the size and sturdiness of this umbrella. The color was as advertised (Forest Green). The one thing I don't like about it is that the umbrella is not attached to the form itself. There are sleeves for the tines to slip into but you have to go around and insert each tine as you are trying to put up the umbrella. Once up, the fabric stays put; but, once it's closed up, the tines do not stay in the sleeves.
I would recommend it because it's bigger than what I could get at the local big box stores but I wish it was permanently attached.

So far, so good!
Comments about Product: It's average in that it's a basic umbrella..but it was a good price. I don't expect it to last more than a couple of years, and that's fine.
Comments about Product: the umbrella looks nice but falls off of the frame when you close it. its a pain to always have to put it back on the spokes every time you open it. i would not recommend this product.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
