So sharp!
Comments about Product:
This item arrived early and was exactly as pictured, which almost never happens to me! It is such a sharp addition to our front door step and looks amazing among my flower pots. It really classed-up the entire entrance experience and I could not be happier with it. Watch the dimensions, though, because it is thick/high-profile! Luckily that works perfectly with my front door but I can see it being a problem for newer homes.

Disappointed that it did not have a rubber back but it looks very nice and I am hoping it holds up well.

This one's a keeper!
Comments about Product:
I received this mat as a gift about 3 years ago, and it still looks brand new. I have it placed under a covered porch and that probably helps, but it is extremely durable, well constructed, and the lettering is as good as it was when I first received it. Since it has held up so well, I purchased another to give as a gift. The recipients are very pleased with it as well. Well worth the money. Love the monogram, very classic looking.

Not your everyday doormat
Comments about Product:
We got this mat for our daughter and son-in-law. They were very pleased with the colors, design, and durability. This is a very sturdy mat that should last a very long time. It is heavy and basically windproof; it most certainly will not blow away. The coarse fibers work well to clean dirt off your shoes or boots, but make it difficult to clean mud or similar dirt without washing the mat; washing the mat will not damage it at all. Dry dirt caught on the surface of the mat can readily be swept with a broom, but that held deep in the fibers must be shaken or washed out.

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
