[...]When I had time to put it together, the screws were not in the box so I bought some as near to the stated size as possible.I eventually found the screws in the garage. Its now together and looks great, and the capacity is about twice what I had pictured. The front slats move freely. Some composters require you to remove compost from a small ground level door--difficult and hard on the back. Some are not meant to be added to while composting, meaning you need two. Most are plastic and vary from tolerable to ugly in my view.Screw holes are on one side only of two adjoining sides, avoiding lineup problems. I needed to drill holes in order to be able to penetrate the second side with my 12 volt cordless.( I bought a 14.4 volt drill and returned it when it couldn't penetrate the second sideeither.)Now that the set up prob lems are over, I am so very pleased with this purchase which fits so well with my organic garden.Oh, and I get lots of used coffee grounds from coffee shops for free.Keeps it out of the landfill, ph is reportedly neutral ,and its a terrific vegan source of nitrogen.

        Comments about Plowhearth Cedar Composter:

This is a large, good looking composter. It weathers like all cedar, which is fine with me. I have had one for several years and needed a little more composting space. The first one has an aged look but is goood as new in terms of function. I would rather minimize the use of plastic in my organic garden.Besides the above mentioned ingredients, I put in non-glossy newspaper that has been used as chicken litter, roughly torn brown cardboard, and occasional soil.I don't turn the compost to speak of, but do alternate types of material and water it in our summer CA droughts to keep the composting beasties moist and happy.I knocked my rating down a point because the sides were not predrilled as they were last time and as the instructions continue to state. Top pieces were predrilled. I was missing a screw.( I could have lost it.) Most kits seem to throw in a extra of each size but none here. Also, one board was cut too short. Still usable, but a little confusing and harder on the aging back than my first bin.I love that you can just slide out slats to remove compost. (In my case, the finished stuff is at the bottom.)Most bins have small capacity and a small opening to remove compost. This is much better in both regards. It would be heaven if there could be removable slats on two sides, but it would probably be hard to keep the constuction sturdy.

The holes are not predrilled as stated in the assembly instructions. They are for some boards, but not all. The photos are not very clear, either.
It is one of the more handsome composting units I've seen. It fits nicely in our yard and is easy to use.

                Comments about Plowhearth Cedar Composter:

This is our first compost bin & we found it to more than meet our needs. We have a decent size garden & we have been putting all sorts of things into the bin--horse manure, kitchen scraps, garden waste, etc. It was easy to assemble, looks nice next to our garden in the backyard, and most important to me it was made in USA. Very pleased. Wish we had ordered a second. Thank you for such a nice product. :)

I like the horizontal piece of wood at the front, it allows me to set y kitchen composter on it. The only thing I wish it had, was a screen on the bottom for better aeration.

I am very happy with my new cedar composting bin. I put it together in less than 30 minutes with a portable drill, it looks nice in my garden spot, and is easy to use.I have filled it with kitchen scraps, coffee and tea grounds, leaves and grass clippings. I have only had it for a few months so cannot comment on how fast it will compost, butso far I am very happy with my purchase.

                        Comments about Plowhearth Cedar Composter:

A properly done compost pile should by 36"x36"x36" This unit falls just short of that, but it is in the height, which can be compensated for to some extent by piling higher than the sides. It is too early to know how well the unit will stand up to rot and decay, but it looks like it could easily be bolstered if there are problems down the road.
I bought two units so that I could turn the pile from one to the other. Most of the others on line were simply too small to meet the optimum pile size. This same unit done in some sort of plastic might be more durable, but probably not less expensive.

I was going to built something similar but when I priced out the materials, this was about the same cost and a lot less labor for me.

The product is well engineered and lumber was cut accurately. Squared up very nicely. I used a countersink to get the heads of the screws seated nicely. Took about 45 minutes to assemble two. One hint: if you use a power driver, set the torque release very low or you can drive the screws too deeply. Transferred my compost pile into one bin so we'll see how it works.

I use it to make mulch for my garden. Works well, just don't forget the bio-accellerator to get it started. Then add some Red Worms!

Easy to put together with the help of 7, 9, and 10 year old boys and a drill. Looks nice in the yard. I plan on using it to make leaf mulch. I like the removable slots in the front.
