Our sturdy Birmingham Bench is handsomely handmade from reclaimed wood that’s been selected for its character and durability. Crafted from shorea wood railroad ties, this dense wood has stood the test of time. Some wood used is up to 100 years old and is naturally distressed. Trestle-style base is powder-coated iron.
Perfect outdoors on a patio or in the garden, our eco-friendly Birmingham Bench is also attractive indoors wherever you want extra seating and a rustic accent. Each bench is hand-crafted and unique in design. Slight variations in the wood means yours is one-of-a-kind!

Comments about Product: Love this bench! I'm using it as a coffee table. It's very heavy and the top is more rustic than shows in the picture with some gaps in the wood, but that look naturally weathered. Agree with the other reviewers, the smooth side of the legs are on the outside, but I'm fine with that. And there is no way to switch it -- i tried everything like the other reviewers. I agree that the photos should be changed to show that though.

Very rustic, but quite beautiful
Comments about Product: This bench is really exactly what I wanted. It is very heavy (75+ pounds) and rock solid. The wood is beautiful, but clearly reclaimed from some place where it received a lot of wear (quite a bit more than the example in the picture!) There were a couple of easily solved issues in assembly. The spanner bars aren't threaded far enough to assemble as pictured, so the patterned side of the legs face inwards, instead of being on the outside. No trees were harmed in the production of the shipping box (it was torn in many places--even inside--and was mostly packing tape) so I am a bit worried about whether the legs will rust. In spite of these small quibbles, the bench is a keeper and would also work as a small space coffee table. It has a great deal of character.
Picture is deceiving
Comments about Product: I bought this bench because I loved the look of the legs and it was reclaimed wood. Ended up returning it because if you follow the instructions the smooth part of the legs are on the outside while the decorative side is on the inside. We tried everything we could to make sure the decorative side faced out but couldn't make it happen unless you cut the bars to make them fit but then you need to be able to make a threaded end. Made in India and obviously all the legs have been setup the wrong way. Don't sell an item that isn't made properly. Make the manufacturer fix their mistake or change your picture to show the ugly side of the legs on the outside.

Comments about Product: The top is very heavy. The metal parts are heavy, but very cheaply made. One metal side came broken. The poles that join the legs threads that were messed up so the nuts wouldn't go on all the way. For the price ($300) is the worst thing I have bought on the internet for a long time. Not what I would expect from Plow & Hearth.
