Comments about Product: I've wanted this bulb garden for years. This year, since I'm getting old, I thought I'd better order it. SO glad I did.
Yes, it arrived with the shipping label on the side of the box, and the box on it's side. But the bulb garden was unaffected. Well, a couple of the shoots were bent, but they straightened right up within a couple days.
I misunderstood the directions and put the whole thing in a tub of water, but within seconds realized that most likely there was a liner in the basket so that when I watered the bulbs the water wouldn't leak onto furniture.
I took the inside pot out of the basket and let it soak up water.
The bulbs have a lot of green growth that looks healthy and happy, and seems to promise lovely flowers in the near future.
Comments about Product: Like everyone else I bought this as a gift for an elderly relative - my mom. She loves it! The basket came with several shoots poking up through the soil, more soon followed and now a little more than a week later she has several flowers and more to come. The box included the gift card and care instructions.
Comments about Product: This gift was sent to a family member who gets alot of snow in the winter. She was so thrilled to report the daily growth. I saw it the day after it arrived and could see all the sprouts. She is anxiously watching it grow. I would definitely get more as gifts for someone you arent sure what to get
Comments about Product: Before ordering I compared to other sources. You have the best designed bulb gardens. I have noticed that the soil retains moisture so it needs to be watched to prevent over watering. These were gifts for several people. I will not speak with one recipent until this weekend but the other 4 locations all received theirs before Christmas. The ones that I ordered for my self are sprouting beautifully. I will try to write a review after they bloom to rate the performance. We ordered these as business gifts because a co-worker ordered some bulbs as gifts last year and had great results. The care instructions had 2 sides and seemed ambiguous in how to water.
Comments about Product: Whomever put the shipping label on the side of the box right next to the words "THIS SIDE UP" defeated that suggestion since the box had to be turned on it's side to read the label - That seems to be a stupid place to put a shipping label -
Comments about Product: I ordered this for a friend for Christmas. It came beautifully packaged, with moss on top, the pot, then a basket with a plastic liner. The instructions were easy, simple to understand. I finally gave it to her a couple of days early because it was growing so fast. Great experience!
Comments about Product: This was the perfect gift for my 95 year old mother-in-law and she called daily to tell me what was coming up. However, no tag with the gift was a downer since she didn't understand when it arrived why it was there or who it was from.
Comments about Product: This is a wonderful, quality basket that begins to grow immediately! My only issue is with Plow & Hearth who never, not in even one of the 3 baskets I sent, included the message I carefully included while ordering online. Each person who received them had to call friends to see who sent it! Big glitch that need remedying!
Comments about Product: Christmas gift, it was shipped in a really nice box. I already have one bloom and it's only been here a week.
I wish there was a finished picture of what the bulbs will look like. I ordered it but the person who will receive it will not know what it will look like unless I print the picture out or text it to them.
I am excited to watch them bloom and it would be a nice gift for grandma, the one who has everything, nursing homes, the sick, and for you!
Want to step in for Santa? We happen to know this is high on _______'s Christmas list!
The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
