Great quality and size
Comments about Product:
Love the quality of the fabric, the embroidered stars...and the color is rich. Just keep in mind they are not red, white and blue...they are vintage...so the red is more cranberry, blue is black and the white is more of a wheat color...at first I didn't think it would mix with my other patriotic items...but since I got several...and I like them so much...I think they'll look fine.

Stars and stripes pillows
Comments about Product:
Great for Fourth of July season. Love the red, white, and blue and the embroidered stars. Goes great with my white wicker furniture on my white deck. Very patriotic! Yes, they are weather resistant; they lose rain water quickly. But I wish I had known they were not fade-resistant. The navy blue faded in the sun.

Not pure white
Comments about Product:
Liked the overall product quality and design. However, be aware that the white is really beige. It is not pure white. I wanted them for a white bench so they didn't work for me.

AWESOME pillows - highly recommend
Comments about Product:
We ordered two of these pillows to put on our outdoor white rocking chairs in front of our furniture store. We had so many people ask if they could buy them and we told them they were our display pillows. Then a couple who are traveling the USA from Germany stopped by today and wanted to buy them. We didn't know if Plow&Hearth shipped to Germany so we sold them ours and ordered two new ones for our display. They were thrilled!! Now the pillows will be on display outside their home in Germany.

Love them even more after a year!
Comments about Product:
Love these pillows even more now that they've been on my porch for a year and I've washed them! Was initially reluctant to buy as there was not a zipper to make washing easier. Although they are on a screen porch, they still got dirty. I threw them in the washing machine on gentle and then into the dryer on low heat and they came out looking brand new!

Stars and stripes outdoor pillows
Comments about Product:
I purchased two of these pillows last year and was pleased with them so I purchased two more this year. I use them for the chairs on my farmer's porch across the front of my house for most of the summer. Although they are somewhat sheltered, they are still outside and stand up to the elements very well. I love the way they look!

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
