I'm into LESS work--so I placed the rings around my smaller trees, secured them with landscape pins and they are working great. You don't have to dig out around the tree to make the mat flush with the ground unless you want to work harder. The hole will not fit tree trunks that are larger than about 5".

I love plants and flowers, however, my husband is the one who does all the work and I get to look at the nice end result. I bought the mulch circles to help cut down on the grass cutting around the new trees and shrubs he planted. They definitely work. When they arrived and we read the instructions to lay down the mat, make cuts around in the grass,remove the grass under the mat, etc. etc. I thought nope too many steps - I wanted easy - plus I was trying to eliminate work not cause more. So I just took the mats and layed them around the tree trunks and bushes, stomped on them a bit and they worked fine. Now things look nice and neat when looking out at the yard.

I rated this item 4 stars only because the description does not tell you about all the prep work.

I can;t find landscape pins to hold it down as the mower lifts it when it travels over it. My husband hates to have this happen: result messy edge anyway. I'm thinking I need to make my own out of wire coat hangers. I'd love to buy some from you.

The product is most useful around our trees. Living in fl. Our ground cover are plants that can live in sandy soil. And as always there are weeds to deal with, however with this product we find it helps to keep them at arms way.

I still think this is a great product. This is an update on my review regarding having put these around 40 fruit trees. They still work great to deter weed growth. However, after a few months voles (voles not moles) have discovered how nicely they provide cozy shelter and have started to burrow and nibble under my cherry trees. This will happen if you put down any thick mulch around fruit trees, I am told. I suspect the moles will soon find the apple trees and peach/pear/apricot trees, maybe the plums. For those trees already infested, I am trying mousetraps and will try a rodent killer. For those trees unaffected, I am told a deer repellent will work. Basically, don't install these perma mats permanently under fruit trees. Lay them around the tree loosely so you can check underneath every couple of weeks and monitor the vole interest in your tasty fruit tree roots. You will still get the wonderful benefit of weed free tree bases (almost, except through the hole in the middle and the seam crack). An added advantage of putting them in loosely is that you can remove them easily to apply early spring lime and summer nutrients directly to the soil around the base of the tree.

I planted 40 fruit trees in my new orchard area and garden. After a summer of constant weeding around the bases, notwithstanding a couple of inches of mulch, I decided to get these. They are easy to install, and protect the bases of my trees nicely from weed growth. I have no problem watering as I use a bubble at the end of a hose to slowly soak. They even have discouraged my dog from trying to dig at the roots. I'm hoping they will hold up for some time.

One of original rolls had holes in it and was disintegrating badly. (Replaced by P&H) - others had frayed ends - not very substantial and will be interested to see how it survives

I liked the affordability, but find quality is inconsistent from roll to roll. Some are durable, others are not! Further product development is warranted!

I bought the pathway to cover the dog's walking path in the yard. I put it in June; it is already torn up. I do not recommend it if you have a large dog. The rubber material in the pathway tears easily, it needs to be made more like the tree rings. I have the tree rings in the yard which are made with thicker rubber material than the pathway. The pathway rubber material is thinner compared to the tree rings. I will not buy the pathway again unless they are made with thicker and stronger rubber.

I put this along the fenceline where the dogs have worn a path. It's a great surface for them to run on and it keeps the mud down. The only problem is that it tears fairly easily - when I was pulling it into place it tore a little, and the dogs have torn it some.

THE PERMA MULCH GAVE A FINISHED EDGE NEAR ROCKS THAT FORM OUTER EDGE OF FLOWER BORDERS. IT GIVES FINISHED EDGE SO MOWER CAN CUT GRASS RIGHT TO EDGE AND ENDS USE OF WEED (EDGE) TRIMER. SUCH A LABOR SAVER.

The edges aren't cut straight so if using in parallel you may have to trim to make lie flat.

I used this product to edge my flower gardens and to hold down the landscape fabric. The lawn mower glides right over it and yet it is not permanent so if I choose to expand or contract the gardens I have that ability. I used landscape pins to anchor it in place.

I'd hoped to use the product on a sloped area which receives foot traffic, but it seems too fragile to use on the sloped high traffic area. One can poke a finger through the product, which varies from 1/4" to 1/2". It appears to be appropriate for a flat area which has light or no foot traffic. I have several recycled rubber tree rings (maker unknown), which are thick and sturdy.

Works great. I needed 1 more perma-mulch. Bought one at your local home and gardening center. It was to thin and started deteriorating. Placed second order for perma-mulch. Threw the local one away.

I ordered the 2ft x 6ft mats to make a garden path. The mats are great, but I wish they came in longer lenghts. I spent most of my time connecting them with landscape pins/staples, which need to be pushed or pounded into the soil. The mats look more natural laid in gentle curves (which requires a lot of pins, I used approx. 200 pins for a 60 foot pathway), laid straight, the pathway somewhat resembles a hotel corridor rug. It's best to lay the mats when it's warm and sunny, the heat makes them more flexible and easier to make them curve. Once grass or other plants grow along the edges of the path, it looks quite natural. Cleaning the path with a leaf blower or garden hose is a breeze, sure beats mulch that blows all over the place.

I have used this before. Now I have installed a vinyl picket fence and I didn't want the hassle of weed wacking under where the fence runs . Bought the pathways, cut them in half legnthwise and placed under fence. No more weed wacking! Love it! The ones they sell at garden shops were not wide emough. This is perfect.

We used this product around the base of a Japanese Laceleaf Maple Tree to mimic cleared soil. It smothers any weeds or grasses that might otherwise grow close to the base of the tree making mowing grass difficult. The appearance is very clean and orderly. The perma mulch is thick and durable ... easy enough to trim. To eliminate any possibility that the cut edge could get caught under the side edge of the lawn mower we used three 6-inch galvanized nails to hammer it into the ground.
