The solar sipper keeps the water clean and it took no time at all for the birds to recognize what it was. It does freeze in temperatures around 22* but I fixed that by buying two of them and interchanging them in the morning, allowing the other to thaw. It's easy to use and maintain.

I live in the mountains of Colorado and this product wasn't up to the task of keeping the water from freezing. Since we have very cold nights, I didn't expect it to stay liquid all the time, but it didn't seem to do the job even when it only dropped to 20 degrees.

The other problem was when the water did freeze it would pop the top off. I ended up leaving it off after I dug it out of the snow a couple of times.

The other problem I had was fitting the top on to begin with. It was a very tight fit and was hard to get on the bowl.

On the positive side, I did leave it outside all winter and the bowl is still in good shape. It works well as a regular bird water disk.

This would probably work well if you were in a climate where the temperature didn't drop below freezing for long.

This really keeps the water from freezing all day. Sometimes if temperature gets down to thirty over night it still does not freeze. Great product.

It does not keep the water from freezing so that birds can drink from it in winter. It's just black & red plastic - nothing "solar" about it. You put it outside in winter and the water freezes. It's a piece of junk.

I was excited about the prospect of this product but once it got below 32* here on PA it never worked properly. It was in direct sun all the time, but the birds never got the water because it was always solid. Once we were able to get the top off to clean and refill, it wouldn't go back on. Husband threw it out while I was out and never told me til after trash pickup, or I would have returned it.
