Comments about Product: I thought the idea of having an item behind each door was great but the animals are all very cheesy and look like they came from the dollar tree. For the price of this advent house quality should be much better. Many doors are on the back of the house making it very difficult to reach without moving the house daily. Wish I could get my money back.
Comments about Product: This cabin arrived today and my husband and I opened it immediately to check out its construction and all the little animals and birds hiding inside. We know our grandchildren will love this and what fun it will be for them to open, explore and move the little critters around. We can hardly wait to give it to them! The construction seems sturdy for this kind of item, all the doors, windows and drawers work well and all the little critters were in good shape. We like it so much, we want one for ourselves so we've bought two!
Comments about Product: I had ordered (2) Advent Cabins. The first one I opened was wonderful, I so enjoyed opening the Drawers, Windows & door seeing the wonderful asst. of animals birds. I absolutely loved it.
I opened the second one and everything was fine until I got to the back wall of doors. The inside wall behind the doors had apparently come unglued. All the animals & pkg. was dropped down into the cabin and there no access to inside. I finally fished them all out with tweezers. I called and am returning the second one for a Replacement. Because I just love the Cabin. Hopefully Replacement will be whole.

Cabin advent calendar a new tradition at
Comments about Product: We have, as a family, collected Advent calendars for decades. We had never seen anything like this. We are also animal lovers and live in the beautiful state of Colorado. This is a perfect expression of our history--camping, hiking, watching wildlife, photographing animals.
Comments about Product: I really am glad I opened this up and looked it over before Dec. 1st. My 3 girls love animals and I thought this was such a cute concept. I wavered bc of the price, but went ahead bc Plow and Hearth usually has great items.
I was HUGELY disappointed that one drawer was broken and 3 opening do not have any animals. The animals were rec'd -- well, yes, as stated above, cheap, and crudely painted. Some look very mean. A few duplicates as well. And, where do you stick all the birds?
I am returning this and will be on the search for something else. Great concept -- needs better construction -- and better animals. Wintery animals --
Comments about Product: I received this Advent Calendar as a gift last year and my children absolutey loved it! As we counted down the days until Christmas, my children were excited to see what animal surprise they were going to get! I can't wait to give this is a gift to my friends and family!
Comments about Product: I was very disappointed in the quality of this advent cabin. My expectations were high because Plow and Hearth endorsed it. The animals were cheap, dime store figurines, many of the same kind, and where do you put all those birds on metal, needle-like posts? They were not functional at all. The animal shapes were all different sizes-they should be equally sized. Too many of the same animals-wish all were different. Two drawers pulled apart and broke and now that they were glued, they don't close. I can't retrieve the animals that fell into the cabin from the windows. Not a great piece.
Comments about Product: Unlike several of the other customers, my Advent Cabin arrived in good condition with all parts & pieces intact. I had no mechanical problems either, and got a lot of nice compliments from family members during our Holiday Party. On the downside, I thought the product was a little expensive given the material, and I was somewhat disappointed in receiving duplicate animals.
Comments about Product: Although it is adorable, there are quite a few quality issues. Two of the drawers fell apart before we even opened the package-one of which fell inside the cabin with the figurine and it cannot be retrieved. Some of the birds are missing mounting posts (I broke up some plastic toothpicks and used them to hold the birds in place.) Some of the windows and draws stick and others do not close completely. All in all, it is not worth the price. We have another one wooden advent calender we have had for many years and have never had a problem with it. We are waiting for a replacement piece for the one stuck inside but I may end up returning the whole thing.
Comments about Product: I was disappointed with this product for the reasons stated above. There was no excuse for a door being empty(#7 door) especially being it was one of the larger doors and my 4 year old granddaughter was eagerly waiting for what was inside which turned out to be nothing. One of the animals had a broken ear. It's only the 17th of Dec. and we have opened 3 doors with 3 identical squirrels. They could at least be in different poses. For the money I would wait until it goes on sale and use the following year.
Comments about Product: We love this advent house and plan to use it every December for the next decade or more. Quality craftsmanship, adorable woodland creatures in each door and window. The house arrived in perfect condition. We've had no troubles at all with the mechanics of the doors or windows. Highly recommended.
Comments about Product: It's very cute but cheaply made. It was scratched when we received it. The drawers fell apart and didn't slide in and out well. Some fell into the cabin and were very difficult to retrieve. Very disappointed for the priced.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
