The Plow & Hearth Campaign to Reforest America℠ Reaching Greater Heights
More than 500,000 trees already donated in the U.S.
January 22, 2009
(MADISON, Va.)- The Plow & Hearth Campaign to Reforest America, a yearlong effort to plant one million new trees in forests across the country, has reached the halfway point. Launched last September in collaboration with the National Forest Foundation and in addition to its heritage program, Plow & Hearth has already hit the 500,000 seedling milestone.

"The response to this initiative from our customers has been tremendous," said Plow & Hearth president Tim Hopkins. "At a time when our nation recognizes, perhaps more than ever, the responsibility we all have to be prudent stewards of our environment, the Plow & Hearth family has demonstrated a true commitment to helping restore some of our hard-hit national forests. A half a million trees in less than four months - that is really an accomplishment."

After every Plow & Hearth purchase, customers receive an email that allows them to select among three U.S. national forests to receive a tree-seedling. Of those consumers who chose to donate to a U.S. national forest in need:
  • Thirty-five percent allocated seedlings to the Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan. These trees will help restore the Kirtland's warbler nesting habitat.
  • Florida's Ocala National Forest will receive 26 percent of the seedlings to replenish the forest's diminished longleaf pine.
  • Twenty-seven percent designated seedlings to help restore the San Bernardino National Forest in California, which wildfires destroyed much of in September 2007.
  • Approximately 12 percent of customers opted to leave it to Plow & Hearth to determine where their seedling is delivered. be distributed.
Additionally, the Plow & Hearth heritage program Planting Two for One®, donates two seedlings for every tree used to generate a catalog, and also helps replenish forests in need. Since its inception in 1991, this program has led to the reforestation of more than 1.5 million trees in its home state of Virginia. This year alone, it is anticipated that the Planting Two for One® program will account for 40% of all seedlings to In addition to its environmentally conscious programs, Plow & Hearth also offers practical, eco-friendly products for composting and pest control, energy-saving insulated curtains and fatwood made from pine stump waste and more.
