Virginia - Planting Two Trees for Every One Used
|Plow & Hearth, along with our sister brands Wind & Weather, HearthSong and Magic Cabin, has developed the Planting Two For Onesm program-a groundbreaking initiative began in 1991 that funds the planting of two seedlings for every tree used to create our catalogs. Through annual donations to the Virginia Department of Forestry, the program has been responsible for reforesting over 3,000 acres of land and planting over 3 million trees since its inception. Last year alone, the number of seedlings planted topped 300,000.|
|Trees help the environment in so many ways: they provide habitats for wildlife, prevent soil erosion and most importantly, help cool our planet by absorbing carbon dioxide. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and emits four tons of oxygen, meeting the annual needs of 18 people.
With contributions of loblolly, eastern white and shortleaf pines to both state and privately owned lands in Virginia, our Planting Two For Onesm program has helped eliminate 18,000 tons of carbon from the air we breathe. The trees we provide improve the air and land quality in our region, produce far-reaching environmental benefits for the surrounding community and allow the forestation of land that might otherwise be developed.
Sustainability has been an integral part of Plow & Hearth's company philosophy since its founding in 1980. We strive to maintain this responsible approach to living. The Planting Two For Onesm program is a significant and measurable way for Plow & Hearth to give back to the environment. We are deeply committed to this effort, and we hope to encourage other catalog companies to emulate this successful program
