I can only say good things about this product.
They were easy to put together,don't bother using the screwdriver that comes with it,use the drill and you will be done so much faster.
I was concerned about the smell that people had described,and it was true, the smell was strong but it went away in a matter of day or two.
I opened the box and let them air out for two days before they were put together.
They are in my living room and they make cleaning up so much easier for my daughter that is only 2 years old.
they are worth the money....very happy that I got them.

I really needed storage space in the garage and was planning to purchase another cubby but after seeing the poor quality ([*]) of the product, the horrific smell, and difficult assembly I have decided against it. Some pieces actually did not fit! The price and quality do not match. I am very disappointed since I expect better products from Plow and Hearth.

I first saw this item featured in Real Simple (Nov 2011?) magazine. Now that I have the cubby put together I will hunt around for the wire basket that the magazine showed in the picture. I was hesitant to purchase this cubby after I read the comments on the smell – so I looked for similar items and the reviews (at other websites too) also mentioned odor problems with other cubbies. In the end I decided to buy this item. When I opened the box the instructions noted that this was an indoor/outdoor item and it was treated with an oil based stain. Ah Hah! I have just put the item together and kept in our garage for a week or so until the smell of stain diminished. I was glad others had mentioned the odor, since I then knew I wouldn't put it in the house the day before Thanksgiving company came. This item is actually wood – all wood. Some type of fir….All the pre-drilled holes matched up very well. Guess what – the company sends the amount of screws you need, plus 1 extra!!! I didn't think any company did that any more. (The company is Merry Products.) My 3 year-old and I put this together in about an hour. I looks better in person than in the picture. We will use for shoes, mittens and misc items This is a great product and the best price around!

These shelves had such a strong fake cedar odor that. I had to use them in my garage instead of in my house as I had intended. The instructions could have been clearer.

This piece was purchased for our laundry room with the intention of serving as storage unit for shoes, backpacks and sports gear.

It suits the need but was rather difficult to assemble.

I use this storage unit on my front porch to store the kids smelly soccer and football cleats along with rain boots. The unit keeps this footwear easily accessible without cluttering up and smelling up my front hallway.

I like the rustic charm. I did not like trying to put it together. I am simply amazed that others have said it was easy!And i am actually very handy but gave up. My husband works for Habitat for Humanity and he had to rethink it a few times! Once built... it is great!

I have it in my mudroom. It is useful, accessible storage.
Quite small scale, if you note the measurements.
The quality was the biggest disappointment. But I reluctantly kept it rather than face the hassle of packing it back up.

The quality of the material was VERY disappointing for the price. The wood is not very sturdy-some of the corners of the sides were cracking before trying to assemble it. This product is not the expected quality from your company. The design and size was just what I was looking for-too bad the material is substandard. We are returning it.

I love this storage cubby! It looks great and serves its' purpose well! It holds a lot more than I thought, from things like my dogs' leash and collar to small gardening tools. It fits perfectly in my laundry room and looks great too!

This cubby holds all my garden tools and has them right at the patio door. It is in the dining room and makes the transition from outdoor items to inside storage handy and visually acceptable.

I bought the wall cubby and really like it. The cubby was easy to assemble and hang on the wall I hung the cubby on my kitchen wall and it is being used to display some nice rustic pottery pieces. You could also use it to store towels, etc. but for me the best use is for grouping and displaying my pottery.

After shopping around and being disappointed with all the options out there for toy cubbies, toy organization, and toy boxes, I finally settled on this one. And I'm glad I did! The cubbies are just the right size for organizing toys, and the shelves in the middle are perfect for books and taller toys. This was easy to put together, and I was able to do it myself. I will say that there was a strong fir smell when we first got it (it even made my dog sneeze!), but it has since dissipated and is barely noticeable. The best part of this piece is, when my kids outgrow it, I can use it for storing something else since it doesn't look like a kid's toy box! I've even received compliments from friends who have asked where I bought this and they are typically surprised to hear it came from Plow & Hearth.

Nice product! Just what we needed to organize and straighten up the mud room. It took the hubby a few times to get it put together correctly. The instructions are horribly vague. It has a strong cedar scent at first but it lessens after a bit. A little pricey, but it does the job and is solid wood.

I bought this after having read about the terrible smell so I was ready. It is BAD - I had to leave it to air out for a couple of days before washing down thoroughly and putting in my entry way.

OK, now for the good part of the review - I love the 9 units, great for a toddler learning to put away her shoes when coming in the house. We also store our shopping bags in an upper unit. It has a homey feel to it

We use it in wet room to hold gardening supplies, pots, potting soil, tools and garden boots. Cubby is not large, its cubbyholes are smaller than those that appear in image, but they are functional -- e.g., each shelf holds one pair of boots. If you have the need for "catch all" storage that is attractive and functional, we highly recommend this product. Important note: There is no "stink" as others have reported. There is a slight wood/oil smell that quickly dissipates.

This product is just what we need for the laundry room. It holds laundry products, cleaning stuff, shoes, hats, gloves, and 2 backpacks. The top is useful too. I've gotten numberous comments how organized I am with my kids shoes and glove/hats all stowed away in the entry way of our garage. And this makes it so easy for them to find and put away their things before they come in or head out. Not hard to put together but this is real wood and wood screws so you have to have a drill. It is very sturdy. I was expecting it to be a quite rough woodfinish but it is a nice smooth finish. It could easily go inside the house in a more casually furnished home.

This unit fits right under my kitchen window. It's not beautiful, but it's SO useful! I got baskets for the cubbyholes so it looks very neat. It gives me lots of places to put things in a small kitchen.

I like the cubby storage unit a lot. We use it in the kitchen to hold our son's school stuff. The compartments are plenty big. The only real drawback was that the unit was not quite as sturdy/heavy as I had thought. Not that it will topple over, just that the wood is on the thin side.

We bought a house that has a great pass-through potting shed attached to the side of the garage -- but it was a real mess. As a surprise for my husband's birthday, I redesigned it - very rustic with rough sawn paneling, unmortared brick floor, peg racks for large tools, copper pendant lamps with basket protectors over the bulbs, and two sets of those wonderful cubbies for holding small tools, garden wear, potting soils, etc. Also installed a long plank potting bench with copper sink and pump-handle-look faucet at one end. I installed a second copper sink at the other end, but sealed the drain hole for use as a soil mixing bowl. But I had an ulterior motive. . . This bowl can be scrubbed out, filled with ice and beverages, and the whole "room" can be used as a bar when we have an outdoor party. Now, I just have to get him to put in a new patio!

I'm using the cubby to store my basketweaving supplies. The cubbys are a great place to put my supplies where I can see them clearing and they don't get damaged.

We bought six of these for our family of 5. We stacked them 2 high. We keep them in the garage and store all our shoes in these bins. Really decreases shoe clutter.
