Prior to purchasing, I was a little skeptical because of the other customer reviews. However, once they arrived I was very surprised to see that they were well constructed and that they are also very cute!!! In addition, I tend to believe that some of the complaints about this item may not be justified. Time must be taken READ all of the enclosed instructions in the package.... For example, the directions specifically state that the blades on the fan portion must be adjusted PRIOR to use or the wind cannot catch the blades to make the whirligig move. In addition, the screws cannot just be hand tightened and they DO require the use of a wrench to tighten securely!! Otherwise, the repetitive CLOCKWISE spinning will loosen them and they will eventually fall off. Overall, I am very pleased with these. They are a great price and they have been a nice addition to my gardens. CUSTOMER TIP**** Take the time to Oil the moving parts prior to use and it will spin more freely and will not make a lot of noise when spinning.

I had looked at this in the catalogue for ages and when it went on sale I bought it. It is as charming as pictured. However, the blades are flat and straight and not angled at all as in a proper whirligig. Therefore even the stiffest breeze doesn't budge it. Also. there wasn't a clue as to how to put it together.

    Comments about Plowhearth Garden Whirligigs:

We are so happy with mama feeding her babies but we did have to move it to a more protected location out of direct wind as we were afraid it would get damaged. We have many whimsical items in our gardens but this is by far the cutest! We'll take it down during winter months as we want it to last for many years. Best buy through Plow and Hearth and very quick service.

    Comments about Plowhearth Garden Whirligigs:

I purchased this for my mom at the lake - they love to sit on the deck and watch the birds (real). Was so disappointed that my dad has had to put the mama bird back together several times and last night my mom said it bit the dust. For it to be metal - very, very flimsy. Not good quality stuff.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS EXPENSIVE BUT I HAD TO HAVE IT BECAUSE IT WAS SO ORIGINAL. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG THAT PROPELLER WILL LAST OUT DOORS WITH THE SUN WIND AND RAIN WORKING ON IT, BUT I THINK THAT FABRIC WILL ROT AWAY OVER TIME. NUTS WORK THEIR WAY LOOSE EVERY WEEK OR SO, SO I PUT A SMALL WADD OF ELECTRICAL TAPE ON END OF SCREW THREADS, BUT YOU COULD USE GORILLA GLUE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO KEEP FROM LOOSING THE NUTS. SPRAY OR PAINT ON CLEAR APOXY COATING TO KEEP PAINT FROM PEELING.

    Comments about Plowhearth Garden Whirligigs:

It is really cute, but the spinner fell apart in less than a week & the wind was never above 20mph. Now I just have a cute garden decoration that doesn't move. I wouldn't have paid [$] for that! I was surprised Plow & Hearth would sell something so flimsy.

      Comments about Plowhearth Garden Whirligigs:

I was glad to recieve my Mother and babies, but did fine that in high winds the blades do come off and it was noise, which we did put a little oil on the parts. As far as the paint fading it has not happened, but it is not in direct sun and when it does , I will just repaint it with paints that you can get in any craft store, which the person could have done. And as far the wind, we just moved it in a better location where the wind is not so hard on it or else take it inside untill it is less windy. I do believe tho that some extra parts should be included just in case some get lost due to weater condition.

This is a very cute whirligig which was purchased as a gift for my parent's flower garden. They loved it, but the paint colors faded so badly by the end of the season they didn't put it out again the next year. Too expense for a one-summer gift.

Was wanting a whirligig and the cardinals were adorable. However, the winds were so great the day I put it out, the blades came off. My husband put a better nut on to keep it on, then cardinal was feeding her babies at a super speed until it broke the mechanism. Cute while it lasted. I noticed some people having trouble getting the blades to move. Make sure you put it on correctly. If it is put on backwards, it will not work.
