Just Ok
Comments about Product:
Being new to wood fireplaces, I have been looking for a minimalist screen and thought this looked great online. Once received, it was a bit flimsy and light and would not stand perfectly level (sort of tilts backwards). My husband had to bend the back brackets a bit to push the screen a bit forward. Now it tilts too forward, but it doesn't bother me enough to return it. I'll have to compare to more expensive screens to see if it is worth the price. For now, this will work.

Just what I ordered
Comments about Product:
Fireplace screen is beautiful and sturdy. I have always used a three panel screen before and avoided this style because I wasn't sure if it would work with my fireplace, I was wrong this screen is the better choice for me and I'm sure I won't ever need to replace it!!!!!!!!!

This screen is safe around our kids (not tippy). The handles on the upper edge don't even get hot. Very functional. Allows for full, safe enjoyment of a wood-burning fire. Simple and attractive.

Very happy with our purchase
Comments about Product:
My wife and I purchased this for our living room which has natural gas logs and are very pleased with the look and feel of the product. It's sufficiently sturdy, has a nice weight to it, and the mesh screen is thick, indicating to me that nobody was skipping corners in producing this.

Solid, well built and a good value.
Comments about Product:
We ordered three and are satisfied. It would be five stars, but one of the three was missing a part which still has not come a week later.
By Jill
Even better than I thought
Comments about Product:
I bought this specifically to keep my two toddlers out of our gas fire place. I originally thought I would have to drill it in place to secure it so that it could not be pulled over onto a child. However that has not been a problem. The fit is great and it is very heavy, thus staying put even when pulled on.

Comments about Product:
This screen is beautifully simple - very well made and sturdy. I placed the order on December 2. It arrived on December 5. Great product and great service! You won't be disappointed. This P&H product is far superior to the screens I found in our local hearth store - and cost less.

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
