Great value
Comments about Product:
We purchased the screen to protect our grandchildren, and it certainly does that. We were surprised at how attractive it is in addition to its functionality and quality workmanship. Couldn't be more pleased.

Comments about Product:
I wanted a screen that would stop ambers from popping out over the top of my fireplace and yet allow heat. So far this screen is performing high end.It fits snug against the outside brick and seals wonderfully. You do need to have a pot holder handy the handles can get hot.Would recommend.
Comments about Product:
We needed a spark guard that would cover our fireplace in the family room and this one is just perfect. We ordered another screen but this is the one that we kept because it covers our fireplace perfectly, looks good, is very stable and does not get really hot. We have young kids and feel much better now about the fact that there will not be any sparks landing on them or anywhere in the room. The spark guard is well built but not heavy which we like as well as we do not want a heavy screen falling on the children. Highly recommend this item!

PERFECT in every way!
Comments about Product:
Excellent FP screen - we love the way it looks, goes with any decor and it keeps the sparks out while allowing you to be close to the fire. Don't hesitate, just measure to make sure you order the right one and then enjoy!

perfect fit, good quality
Comments about Product:
Our condo has an odd sized fireplace opening with an attached downward visor. This screen fits perfectly and is very attractive.

Love it!
Comments about Product:
My wife and I purchased this for our family room where we have a gas log fireplace. We have two small children and wanted something that could not be knocked over and that would keep any and all items out of the fireplace (legos included). This screen fit the bill perfectly and we are super happy with this purchase. If you are contemplating a spark guard over a classic screen, don't hesitate, this is a wonderful way to go (that said, we also have a more classic screen in our living room, also from Plow and Hearth).

Well Worth It
Comments about Product:
Aside from its design to cover the entire opening, the one piece is a pleasure. No more popping embers to watch burn holes in my living room or cats.

A home run!
Comments about Product:
Just replaced my 80's brass and black screen with this one. I haven't had a fire going yet but it is heavy weight mesh so I am sure it will work great. Loved this one piece unit as opposed to the folding screens.

The Olla: A Brief History

Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.

When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.

The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.

Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!

How it Works:

Water is pulled directly through the terra-cotta!
