Comments about Product: Purchased this for my wife, an avid cook and a recycler. We like the container but it did not come with any instructions on its use, when to change bags, what to compost or how to change the charcoal filter in the top. Some help with getting started with composting would be very helpful.

Useful, but fragile
Comments about Product: These are good to use in lining the stainless steel kitchen compost crock. You have to be careful when tearing one off the role because they might rip.
Ideal for home use!
Comments about Product: I keep my stainless steel compost crock right on the counter where I peel and prepare veggies, that I put the scraps directly into (the crock). I particularly like the liner bags that came with the crock, as they make taking out to our outdoor compost pile a breeze!
Comments about Product: I saw comments about the bags that it comes with and they must have changed them cause the quality of the bags are good. Not flimsy and carried lots of scraps to the composter.

It works for us!
Comments about Product: We keep it on the kitchen counter. The stainless steel matches our appliances, so it works for me. My husband loves the handle,he carries it right to the mulch pile for easy dumping. It holds quite a bit and there is no unpleasant odor. Haven't had it that long, so I can't comment on the filter life as yet.
Comments about Product: The ceramic compost crock is great as looks so nice sitting in my sink and very convenient to put in the food that I want to compost. It is much better than the unsightly plastic bag that I used before ... the disposable bags inside make it easy to keep clean. The only problem that I have is that the knob on the top is hard to grasp as it short. Other than that it is an excellent product.
Making compost attractive...
Comments about Product: is difficult at best. The Stainless Steel compost container with filter in the lid is great! Every kitchen should have one.

Great Compost Bucket!
Comments about Product: I love this compost bucket and bags. I do not find the bags flimsey. But I do take the whole bucket out and dump it. I am not diligent about empting my compost and I have no odor. The filter works great! The lid is a little difficult to clean but the bucket itself is easy to clean. Bag does not get stuck. Holds a lot.
Poorly constructed compost crock
Comments about Product: Unfortunately, I had to send the stainless steel compost crock back. It had a rounded bottom and wouldn't sit flat on the counter. Also, it was too large for our counter space.
inferior compost bags
Comments about Product: I love my P&H crock!! Hate the new bags. These rip by just looking at them. The former bags were far superior. I will not buy these again. P&H -- I will buy your bags if you stock a better quality product.
Stainless Steel Compost Crock
Comments about Product: I have been using this product for about 9 months. I loved it until the rim of the lid starting cracking and no longer fits on the crock.
Sweet Smell of Success
Comments about Product: This is a needed item for the composting bin..this particular brand was a little different than the ones I have used in the past. Two large squares where the other ones were round (a little bit easier to place in cover of container)..Otherwise they're fine ..works like they 're suppost to..

Perfect for going green!
Comments about Product: I used the ceramic compost pot for several years. I accidently broke it and bought this one. This is even better than the ceramic one. I love it!
Got the job done
Comments about Product: I actually have a different, smaller compost bin, but I couldn't find the size I needed. I was able to cut these down to the right size very easily, and they're doing the job nicely.
Comments about Product: I purchased the bags to use with my kitchen compost crock. I expected to be able to use the bag as a liner and then just pull it out and compost. However, the bags are so thin that they tear just taking them out of the box. I love the idea of biodegradable but it just didn't hold up to the task.

Not happy with these new bags!
Comments about Product: These new compostable bags are so flimsy they tear apart just trying to separate them from the roll. What a waste! The bags you had previously were MUCH better!
bags are a waste, literally
Comments about Product: These bags are a horrible. I'm glad I only bought one box. They tear too easily and it seems like they actually start to biodegrade in the canister, before they make it to the composte pile, leaving a mess.
does the job
Comments about Product: I've had it for about 6 months. Does the job I bought it for. Sometimes I forget to empty it on a regular basis. By the time I remember, it smells pretty bad in there. I'm happy to say, the odor stays inside the canister. The bags are a waste. They tear too easily. I've stopped using them and just scrub it after each emptying. The only real complaint about the canister, is the lid. The seam around the inside of the lid has begun to open. Nothing a hammer won't fix.
I love it
Comments about Product: I loke this composter better than the previous ceramic one I had -- more capacity, just as easy to empty and to clean (if not easier),and it blends in with all the other stainless steel in my kitchen. It works and I like the design -- what more can you ask for?
By J the composter
Comments about Product: Use product in kitchen compost pot. Currently sold bags compost quickly but are a too flimsy, tear easily when trying to separate from roll and tear when removing from pot. Previously sold bags were stronger but did not compost as quickly. Compost pot design also faulty--larger at bottom than and tear bags in removing them from pot.J the
Comments about Product: I was dissapointed that these bags ripped so easily. I guess that makes them easier to compost. I liked the idea of just throwing out the entire content of the crock without dumping out a messy bag. These don't hold up while collecting scraps.

Disappointed in Biodegradable Bags
Comments about Product: More times than not the second bag rips when I pull apart at the perforation. I try to be gentle, but have still ripped into the second bag and made it unusable. Very disappointed since I am only able to use about 2/3 of box due to how easily bags have ripped.
Very pleased with stainless compost pot
Comments about Product: My stainless compost pot sits on the kitchen counter within easy reach of either of our 6 family members. The 1.5 size lasts us for a few days without having to empty it (squish it down to make more room in the pot). I am thrilled it eeks no odors! It is nice to look at too! Now if it could walk out to our compost pile and turn itself, that'd be awesome. VERY PLEASED!
By master composter
Comments about Product: The product is great. It makes disposal of my kitchen waste very easy. I just pull out the bag and take it to my compost site and that is it. My compost jar stays nice and clean.

Stainless stee compost crock
Comments about Product: Love you guys!!
Comments about Product: These compost bags are convenient, because they keep me from having to clean my container as often, but out of the first 3 I have used, 2 have torn when I was getting them out of the box. I know they have to be thin to break down easily, but these are very weak.
Thin bags - rip easily
Comments about Product: Bought two boxes of these but wish we'd only gotten one. We have a small trashcan that we use for composting. We keep it under the sink and decided to get these bags to keep the liner clean. THese bags are very thin - they rip easily when you remove them from the box and tear off one, and then if the bag gets too full/heavy, it tears when you are taking it to the composter.

Stainless steel = perfection
Comments about Product: Kitchen scraps are easily collected in stainless steel container and this is the best part, the straight sides make it soooo easy to remove the scraps without tearing the biodegradable bags. No mess, no odor, no more searching for a suitable compost container for our kitchen. We've tried a plastic and a ceramic, urn-shaped one, but this is the one for us!
Could be the worst designed product ever
Comments about Product: Once you fill the pot, you cannot get the bag out without ripping it apart. The top opening is smaller than the base, so when you try to lift out a bag full of kitchen scraps, it gets stuck. Quite annoying. This could be the worst designed product ever sold. It is dysfunctional and essentially unuseable.
By The Mom
Comments about Product: I was disappointed in this product. I thought it would be a great solution to making composting easier; however the bag breaks very easily spilling contents before you can get it outdoors to the compost area! The bags were pricey, and since they don't get the job done, they are NOT worth the price.
I like it
Comments about Product: Nice looking
Comments about Product: Design is poor. The opening/top is smaller in diameter than the crock. So when full, the bag can not be removed easily...it usually breaks.
Honey Pot not too sweet
Comments about Product: I have already sent this pot back. It was impossible to pull the bio-bag full of scraps out of the pot as the opening is so much more narrow than the body of the pot. We have a family of five and filled up the pot quickly and it was just too frustrating to try and pull the bag out. We ended up turning the pot over and dumping everything out each time.
By Scooter's Mom
Comments about Product: I haven't actually opened this roll of bags yet, but have been using this brand of bags for quite some time. It's great not having to wash my crock every time I empty it and I think they help keep those pesty little flies away. You do need to be careful in tearing the bags off the roll; they can tear. All in all, though, I really do like them!

Pretty ceramic Honey Pot
Comments about Product: I was told [...] that the Honey Pot would be fruit-fly proof but it is not, so I was quite disappointed. I have to put a paper towel under the lid to keep them out!
By gran 555
I buy this product often.
Comments about Product: I purchased rhe Compost Crock several years ago and can only find the biodegradeable bags and filters at Plow and Herth. My garden loves the compost and the landfill doesn't get my household waste. Everyone should try it!
Honey Pot shape is poor design - bag rip
Comments about Product: It's beautiful, but we found the rounded shape not pratical. When it gets full, the bag is not easy to remove due to the opening being smaller than the middle and it causes the bio bag to rip. We'll be returing ours and getting a cylinder type. It's too bad, because it's a beautiful pot, attractive on our counter and works great except for the shape.
Don't Buy it!
Comments about Product: I thought this would be a good way to throw out food items, put them in a compost bin after 3-4 days. But at day 3 there wew so many gnats in the kitchen I put up fly strips and placed the crock under the sink. Two days later when I went to empty it (we were using the liners as well) there were maggots all over the lid, it the air filter, and all around the inside. I am moving this out side where it will stay, it kind of dedeats the purpose of getting it. We wanted some where close to throw bio garbage away.

LOVE MY COMPOST CROCK!!
Comments about Product: I LOVE this Crock! It looks great on my countertop and the charcoal filter keeps all the smells inside. It's super easy to take outside to empty into our big compost bin!

I would recommend this to others
Comments about Product: I bought the bags to go with it but they don't work well
By Lori the gardener's wife
Comments about Product: I can fit a week's worth of materials and the filter makes it so that I don't even know it is there. No odor at all.
By Lori the gardener's wife
waste of Money
Comments about Product: I thought it would be good to use bags so that I could just take that out to compost pile, but they are too hard to get out of honey pot when full. Easier to just take the whole thing outside and rinse it before next use.
Comments about Product: I'm glad you have not discontinued the charcoal filters for the Compost Crocks.
I have had mine for a number of years, and I truly believe that decomposed stuff enhances the garden soil.
I have given this Crock as a gift to a gardener friend.
Memories of Winnie the Pooh's honey pot
Comments about Product: Cute shape...reminds me of my kid's favorite preschool Winnie the Pooh movies. The filter is a nice idea but it only works about a week or so...would be nice if they could be washed in the dishwasher and used again. Just one filter is included, but if its emptied frequently, it really isn't necessary. I use a plastic grocery sack to line it, so I usually can just rinse it out.
I love my honeypot
Comments about Product: I use it for recycling. It is just perfect for my counter, not too big or too small.
I am afraid the handle will slip off. It has once or twice and I was very careful in carrying it. It is not too secure.
Love the stainless steel version!!
Comments about Product: When our garbage company gave us a plastic compost pail I decided to really make an effort to compost. What I quickly found was that the pail got stinky and was gross to clean. When I saw the stainless steel compost pail with the compost-able bags, I knew I found the PERFECT solution!!
Comments about Product: We eat alot of produce and this pail holds a lot more meaning fewer trips to the outdoor compost pile!
Compost Container, not a crock of....
Comments about Product: Useful 1 Gal. Stainless Steel Crock with charcoal filter and biobag. Have read the reviews indicating problems with the ceramic and bamboo. None of these problems exist with the stainless steel. Waiting to find out how long it takes for the bags to break down. LOVE IT!
Compost crocks rock!
Comments about Product: [...]
Looks nice but does not service well
Comments about Product: I purchased because it was very attractive for the price. The Honey Pot bottom is larger than the opening which makes it very hard to empty. Do not waste money buying the bio bags because you can't get them out without tearing. Need to redesign the item.
Comments about Product: I purchased this compost crock recently. It wasn't long before fruit flies began swarming all over the counter and cabinets near the item. I took it outdoors, emptied it, hosed it thoroughly and tried again. Each time, in a matter of days, the fruit flies were back. They lay eggs in the charcoal filter and multiply rapidly.

Look at the size before you order!
Comments about Product: We ordered the ceramic compost pot in yellow. I really liked the picture of this in the catalogue (not the correct picture on this webpage), but check out the measurements before you order. This pot is bigger than a good size cookie jar. If you don't go to the compost pile very often then this might work for you, but we just found it overwhelming the rest of the cabinet. We are returning it and will search for a more manageable size.
Comments about Product: These are great to use when cleaning vegetables and peeling fruit. They contain odors very well. The lid on the second one doesn't fit snuggly. The groove on the top inside is hard to clean.
By Bell Cow
Comments about Product: I bought a second one for our second home after receiving the first one. I love the size...I don't have to make so many trips to the compost pile.
Good compost container
Comments about Product: Only wish it was larger! Turns out we generate a lot more food scraps than I realized. It looks great and is easy to clean and empty, what more can one want? Fabulous product; have something to empty in it every day.
would buy one for anyone who composts
Comments about Product: I use the honey pot for all kitchen scraps that are not meat. I empty once a week if needed and there is no smell. I change the filters once a month.
keeps the smells at bay
Comments about Product: Works great keeping the smells in side. Change once a month or as needed.
Only wish I had bought it years ago
Comments about Product: I use to use a square plastic container (old frozen eclair box) for collecting compost in the kitchen. It was ugly, smelly and inconvenient (no handle) There were many a time when I ended up with fermenting veggies/fruit skins on me as I took the plastic box to the bottom of the garden to the compost heap. It's the little things in life that give most pleasure and not having rotten things on me gives me great pleasure.

There are many pros and one con
Comments about Product: I am generally pleased with this product. It's attractive (no need to hide it) and does not emit any unpleasant odor. Composting itself makes you feel good because you are doing something for the environment as well as creating good fertilizer for the garden. The only drawback is that the shape of the crock makes it difficult to empty when it's full. The only solution I've found is to empty it before it's completely full. The other crocks with straight sides would probably be better from this standpoint, but I don't think they are as attractive.
A must in the kitchen!
Comments about Product: Looks great on the counter and absolutely does not smell thanks to the charcoal filters for the lid. I also bought the Bio-Bags liners which are wonderful.
Comments about Product: This makes composting easy and attractive at our home. The pot holds a ton and so far it has not smelled a bit. A neighbor (her husband composts and saves in an ice cream bucket) said "oh my, that looks so much better than what we do". I think this is efficient and looks great too.
Perfect container for kitchen scraps
Comments about Product: This is the best container for kitchen scraps I have ever used. The size is large, the lid seals nice and tight and the filter prevents any odors in the kitchen. I purchased the yellow one and it is beautiful, too. It looks like Pooh's honey pot!
Only down side is that I really need 2 hands to open it but don't mind that fact as everything else is so great.

Compost Crocks Rock!
Comments about Product: I use my crock for all vegetable, fruit, egg shells and non-meat/fat kitchen scraps. Then, I put it in my outdoor compost for use in my gardens later.
Pretty, but not worth the money
Comments about Product: The bamboo compost crock was beautiful, & blended perfectly with my wood cabinets. Unfortunately, it didn't actually function. I wanted a large compost crock, but when I ordered it had a hard time trying to find out the size - I even called & they didn't know the volume. I see that the catalog now has the size of the crock. It was a decent size, but unfortunately the plastic piece that held the filters in the lid was badly designed & did not stay in place at all. It couldn't be used because the filters kept falling into the kitchen scraps - yuck. I returned it & ordered the stainless steel crock - which is excellent!
We love the honey pot compost container.
Comments about Product: We use our compost container daily. With the filter (1 included) there is no odor.
It holds nearly a week's worth of scraps and washes easily when empty. Wish more filters were included.

I use this everyday
Comments about Product: We use the white ceramic honey pot compost crock everyday! Eggshells, fruit and veggie peels, coffee grounds, etc. When full, we dump the contents into the compost pile in the backyard. The Honey Pot is large enough that we only have to dump it once a week. We have beautiful compost for our garden! Every kitchen should have one. There is no smell at all.

Very handy item
Comments about Product: I love having my attractive ceramic compost crock readily at hand on the kitchen counter. All my fruit and vegetable scraps go in it, then out to the compost pile. Odors are contained in the crock. I'm happy that charcoal filters are still available for my crock, even though it isn't the latest model. Fruit flies can develop if you leave it around for too long, so remember to dump the scraps into your compost pile regularly. My crock is MUCH nicer than the old coffee can I used to use for kitchen compost scraps!!
Comments about Product: Takes composting to the next step. Filter works great no oder even if not emptied for 2 wks. Very attractive on counter top. Use the bags for ease of cleaning.
Comments about Product: The rim design catches everything when emptying the crock. If using the composting bags, the pot-belly shape makes it almost impossible to remove a full bag without making a mess. Attractive but not very functional.
Perfect, with one small problem
Comments about Product: Perfect - except for the lip at the top that catches alot of refuse when you empty it. It's hard to clean the lip effectively but I would still recommend!
I Found Just The Right One
Comments about Product: I keep it next to my sink and toss all my compost ingredents into it, it is easy to clean up and the filters realy work

I would recommend this product
Comments about Product: I keep it close to the sink so it is right there ready to be used, so I can put anything in it that goes out in my composter
Keep Your Compost Bin Clean and Smelling
Comments about Product: Bio Bags keep your compost bin clean and smelling fresh. Very convenient. Could be a bit larger but they do the trick.
Comments about Product: I purchased the honey pot crock about 9 months ago and love it. It looks nice on my counter top and the filters really do prevent any foul smells. I also purchased the biobags, but I have only used one. Once the crock was full it was very difficult to remove the bag and its contents into my compost pile. The crock is easy enough to clean and much easier to dump without the biobag in it.
Just perfect in everyway!
Comments about Product: composting.Couldn't be more pleased with the product
Functional, Good Size and Nice Appearanc
Comments about Product: Matches the wife's tastes for countertop appliances, while I don't have to take the compost out every day!
Comments about Product: Many compost crocks are not very attractive, but I bought this crock in blue and it really complements my kitchen. It's large size means less time spent in emptying the crock. It's also well made. I anticipate having this crock for a very long time!
Comments about Product: I bought as a gift. They loved it.

More than honey in the honey pot
Comments about Product: Beautiful way to deal with composting materials. Much larger than I expected. Design and colors fit well with my decor. Best if used with filters - that way you only have to empty it when it's full rather than daily to avoid the smells. Only drawback is that the bio-bags that are marketed with the composter don't come out very easily - mouth too narrow when the bag is full.
What a crock
Comments about Product: Love the color and style of this compost crock. Easy way to collect kitchen scraps and add them to my garden compost bin. The charcoal filter eliminates any odor-no one guesses that the pot contains waste matter!
Comments about Product: This is a great pot for collecting my food scraps. The handle also makes it easy to carry to the compost bin
Great for the kitchen
Comments about Product: Perfect size to sit on kitchen counter. Looks like a regular canister, so it blends with decor. Easy to dump when full. Makes composting much easier.

Great practical solution
Comments about Product: I bought the stainless steel compost crock and the compostable bags to line it. I love this product. Great looking, convenient, odor free and roomy. It can store an entire weeks worth (for us) of kitchen scraps before it needs to be emptied into the outdoor composter. I am thinking of getting one for the office, too.

Comments about Product: The honey pot is adorable!... But, because it closes in at the top, it is hard to remove the bag of vegetable compost. Almost impossible without tearing the bag. Even composting can be Elegant
Comments about Product: Love the weight, shape, and usefulness of the crock. It looks great on my counter and no one would ever guess what it's true purpose is.
this makes composting so much easier!!!
Comments about Product: It sits on my kitchen counter, scraps go right into it from my cutting board, makes clean up easier, the bags make disposal even easier!
Composters will love these
Comments about Product: I have two—the stainless steel and a white honey pot. The stainless steel container is perfect. I've had it for five years, use it daily and it still looks like new. The honey pot's round shape, while attractive, makes it difficult to empty. I often have to scoop my scraps out—a messy proposition.
Both hold quite a bit, and with the filters are odorless. They make composting easy.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
