Comments about Product: When you order 'large trellis for bench' you do not get all the pieces shown in the picture. You only get a middle section that is useless itself because it is too narrow to attach to the planters. It can't stand up on its own. The photo actually shows the large trellis, plus two small trellises all connected together. My bench and planters arrived first, and the trellis was back ordered for three months, which meant I could not return a three month old bench and planter set when I realized I would need to order two small trellises to get the thing to stand up. If I had known the bench and trellises would end up costing almost $600 I would have never ordered it.

Comments about Product: Excellent looking set, very fast shipping, fairly priced too. Assembly was a snap, instructions are easy to understand. The only problem I had that the inside measurements of planters are 13x13", meaning that I will have to buy new pots, can't use the ones I have. Great company, easy to deal with. Thanks a lot.
Attractive, but difficult to assemble
Comments about Product: Once I got all of the pieces put together, it was very attractive and sturdy. However, the assembly instructions and hardware don't match up with a lot of the pre-drilled holes. I finally gave up on trying to use what was supplied and drilled my own holes.

Looks great on Our Patio
Comments about Product: Hadc a very difficult time putting the set together, directions are incorrect, had to drill new holes, Plow and Hearth did help us , Would order from the Company again.
Too new to rate but so far so good
Comments about Product: Looks good
greatest thing ever
Comments about Product: great cost for seating for 4....just had to add cushions and voila!
also so easy to put together!
Easy to Assemble
Comments about Product: The product is very good quality and looks great. It is a bit pricey.
Pretty and practical
Comments about Product: I really like the product. It's attractive and provides the additional seating space I wanted on our new deck. I found it to be sturdy, but my husband felt the need to add additional support to the benches to ensure the safety of our more portly friends and neighbors.
Problem with description
Comments about Product: The description of each individual item was so poorly written that I couldn't determine what I needed to order. After reading other comments, I figured out the "Sustainably Grown, Weather-Resistant Solid Eucalyptus Planter Trellis" is actually the very small trellis behind one planter and doesn't include a planter. [$] + shipping is extremely expensive for a framed piece of cheap lattice. So, I ordered the two benches and three planters and it arrived promptly, which was nice. It also went together easily, however, I didn't know the planters didn't have a bottom or that the benches weren't securely attached. I would have preferred to have trellises behind the entire unit, but not willing to spend an extra $660 just in trellises!!

replaced planter boxes
Comments about Product: Had to call plow and hearth because the boxes were missing internal fittings for the screws to fit into and had to have all planter boxes replaced. The boxes are not well constructed and the finish was not good.
Comments about Product: I got the 2 benches and 3 planters. It was real easy to put together thanks to a cordless power driver. May seem obvious to other people but the instructions did not mention that there is an upside and downside to the planter walls. There is a lip on the downside to catch the "floor" of the planter. I got 2 out of 3 put together wrong before noticing that. I wish the benches were longer or you could pick and choose from different lengths. My deck is about 7 x 18 feet. What I ordered is fine for the short side, but I have to get another order of 1 bench and 2 planters to fit along the long side. Would have been nice if I could have chosen 1 planter and 1 bench since I don't really need 5 planters to do what I want to do. That is not such a big deal - I will just have 2 planters in between benches on my long side or have a 1 off planter somewhere. I am even considering using the wood from the 5th planter to fashion a "table top" for the 4th planter. That way I could have flowers on each end of my bench on the short side and the long side would have 2 benches with flowers on the ends and table in the middle to set drinks on or whatever.
It matched the redwood water seal I used on the deck pretty well.
Other than more options for customization, I really like it.
Be Careful Which Pieces You Order
Comments about Product: I ordered the bench with planters and trellis for bench to put free-standing on the edge of my patio. The small planter trellises were not shown on the website, so I assumed they were included. Not so...It wasn't until I'd put everything I ordered together that I realized you can't attach the trellis for bench to the bench without the planter trellises. However, it was not clear where or how to purchase them. After a phone call and email with the customer service department to try and figure out what was going on, the smaller trellises have appeared on the website but are on backorder and won't arrive before my climbing plants will need something to climb on. Now instead of spending [$], which seemed reasonable, the whole arrangement will cost around $500 and I couldn't even put it together until the other trellises arrived in a few months. Basically, while this product is lovely, assembles easily and would have been great, make sure you order everything you need to be able to actually put it together. For me, it wasn't worth the extra $200 for two small trellises that wouldn't arrive on time so I'm returning the large trellis and buying cheaper trellises from a local store.
Comments about Product: Love this product. It is a great addition to our deck. When we received this there were no instructions included so I called and the customer service representative sent them over ASAP. Also it turned out that we received a returned product (you could tell someone tried to put it together and the screws etc were in a bag that was not Plow and Hearth bags)and when I let the customer service rep know she refunded my shipping and gave me a partial credit. Great job by the company.

Comments about Product: Looks very nice and adds a great deal to patio area
Get your $$$ out
Comments about Product: Loved it but too expensive had to return it
nice additional seating
Comments about Product: we purchased this to add seating to our backyard and provide for more bamboo "screen" in the planters. the planters are actually open planter boxes that we will now need to find inserts for or build in there ourselves. quality of the wood is fine and the stain is even and as it appeared in the catalog. easy assembly. now that we have been looking for the inserts for the planters, realize that the "value" wasn't as great as initially thought - $250 actually seems a bit high but then again, it sure was nice to just order it and have it delivered! we'll see how it survives a season outdoors - we've only had it for a few weeks thus far.
planters and bench for yard
Comments about Product: I have had many compliments with the addition of 3 sets of planters with benches to my patio. I used large ferns inside the planters but would have much preferred to have an adjustable inner shelf that a reasonably priced planter could sit on. I will have to figure something out for next year. Assembly required! The trellis I sent back because they wouldn't withstand the wind [...] It has taken nearly 2 months to be credited for them.
Comments about Product: The planter needs a flat bottom with holes for drainage, not a couple of slats. I want to plant directly into the planter not use another pot inside.

Just what I was looking for
Comments about Product: We just built a new patio and needed seating on the edge. This was perfect and I was able to add pots of plants to show everything off. After ordering two sets we ordered a third!

Long run for a short slide
Comments about Product: [...] arrived with assembly defects/fasteners. Some of the holes were drilled with no threads to hold the screws. We had to tap threads to complete assembly. We are happy with the final outcome.

Stonger than it Looks
Comments about Product: I bought this for my patio, and was supprised how easy it was to put together. It is a perfect addition and looks great with the plants on the ends. I love it.

Love it. Had nothing but raves.. Thanks
Comments about Product: Looks great on my deck
I Love It!
Comments about Product: Instead of Deck railings that are very expensive, I use these. I bought 2 sets of 3 planters and two benches. These go along the back and sides of my deck
Finish does not hold up
Comments about Product: Based on catalog info. that product can be stained, I protected with outdoor polyurethane before putting them into use. By mid-way through first year the finish is peeling and ugly.
Attractive and easy to assemble.
Comments about Product: I purchased this for our retirement community's resident garden. The resident gardeners loved the planters, and they enjoy sitting on the benches and admiring the fruits of their labors. These are attractive and functional for the price. A good value.

I'd buy another if I had the room
Comments about Product: This item lifted my patio into a classy place. The potted plants now have
a lovely place on my patio.

Comments about Product: This is a beautiful way to have extra seating around our chimaenea and it does not take up a lot of space on our deck. It was easy to assemble but the bottom of the planter boxes are a wide lattice and we had to put very large rocks ontop of landscaping mesh in it to stop the dirt from escaping. They fit two people on each seat and it does not feel like it will collapse.
Comments about Product: I was disappointed with:
1. You cannot actually plant directly into the planters because dirt would come out of the bottom. The bottoms should be soild with drainage holes.
2. Wood color is totally different than picture-hope it is the wood you say it is.
3. Wood plugs that sover screw holes do not fit-half are too big to fit into the holes. I am calling to get more of them from you.

Does the job nicely
Comments about Product: We are using the product to fill a space on the corner of our deck. It looks beautiful there, and will be more so once the flowers fill in.
great piece for difficult corner of deck
Comments about Product: [...] exactly as ordered and no defects or issues.

I would buy this product again and again
Comments about Product: The bench is on our patio, and it looks great with the planters on each end. Great quality I love it!
It was exactly as advertised.
Comments about Product: Use for decorative uses on our lunai. I like the fact that you can put pots in the planters and change our your plants according to seasons. Also you can use as seats when you're entertaining and don't have enough chairs.
Very satisfied with this product
Comments about Product: Product exceeds my expectations.

Perfect patio planters
Comments about Product: Great

Don't plan on the picture color.
Comments about Product: The color of the wood is actually dark brown. The picture led me to believe it was much lighter. Also, the planters will not hold dirt; I had to find pots that would fit inside them.
I do like the look of the benches and planters even though it was not what I had pictured.

The Olla: A Brief History
Olla (Spanish, pronounced “oh-ya”) jars have been around since ancient times. Made of unglazed ceramic, ollas traditionally have short, narrow necks with wider bodies, and are made in a variety of shapes. They have been used for thousands of years for cooking, storage, and plant irrigation.
When used to irrigate plants, an olla is buried neck-deep in the ground near a plant’s roots, with the opening of the olla extended above the soil so that it can be filled with water periodically. The porous walls of the unglazed pottery allow the water to seep through gradually, constantly and consistently hydrating the plants without overwatering them – and without wasting precious water to evaporation or runoff.
The use of ollas for irrigation was introduced to the American Southwest by Spanish conquistadors during Colonial times, becoming very common among Native American tribes and Hispanic settlers. Though the technique gave way to more modern methods of irrigation some time ago, its superior efficiency, coupled with its simplicity, has caused it to make a comeback. Though the technique has changed little since its introduction, today’s ollas are usually capped off, making them even more water-efficient.
Perfect for home gardens, Ollas are a super-easy, eco-friendly, less time-consuming way to water annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and plants of all kinds in dry, sandy soil, very hot or drought-prone areas, raised beds, and even pots, planters and hanging baskets. Fill the olla before you leave on a short vacation to enjoy worry-free watering – and a smaller water bill!
